The College Program...

In 2003, my sister worked at WDW through CP. She didn't really like it too much, though. We went down there during her time to see her there. She worked at Sunset Ranch Market, the second most popular eatery at WDW (the first one is Cosmic Ray's). She created her own website about her experiences there. Check it out.

why are you so bound and determined to knock the college program?? i'm not saying that someone shouldn't post anything negative about the CP, because everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but these aren't even your opinions or experiences! They're copied word for word from your sister's website.... and in all honesty (from reading some of the journal entries on the site), anyone who has that much of a pessimistic attitute before they even leave, is bound to have an awful time....whether they're doing the college program or going on a two year vacation to Hawaii... to echo what everyone else has said, it is what you make of it- i had the time of my life...

Exactly. ^ I just looked at her journal and she is moaning about stuff before she has even left !

WoW.

I had the time of my life too, I would not let that journal discourage you, it seems sooooooo pessamistic.

Wow! I never knew the responses to the website would be less than enthusiastic! I guess some people have different experiences with the CP. Some people like it, some don't. I think where you work and in what area dictates your experience. I'm not knocking anything. My sister is evidently trying to be practical. In your case, it's probably a bit TOO practical. You don't have to take my sister's word for it. If you want to do the CP, then whatever you do, do not, that means, DO NOT look at the website! Avoid the wesbite until you finish with the CP. My point is, always have a positive attitude before you do something.

Where ya work has nothing to do with how much you enjoy the program. It's all in your attitude coming in and how much you choose to get involved. I've done the CP twice-- once in QSF&B as a busser at Pecos Bills and the second as a Jungle Skipper (where I'm still at, not on a CP). As much as I absolutely love cleaning tables and emptying garbage as the next guy, I loved my first program (probably more than my second). Typically, what I've seen in the past few years is that those in QSF&B have a harder time enjoying it, than those in attractions and those in Custodial have a very easy time enjoying it.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what my opinion of the program is. It doesn't matter what your sister's opinion of the program is. What matters is the attitude of the person doing the program.

Maglite.....how is it over there at Jungle? I just may be joining you.

Right now? Probably cold. I'm stuck in Chicago till mid January.

Jungle, though, is hard because it takes some time for your voice to get use to it. It's a very rewarding attraction though, just like all the others. I still think it's embodied best in something Taryn said a while ago:

"But honestly, to all of you who doubt, the Jungle Cruise is THE epitome of Disney magic...because it doesn't rely on machinery, on flashy tricks, or thrills. It relies on real people, like you and me ."

You can take the skipper out of the Jungle, but you can't take the Jungle out of the skipper.

I know that's all kinda general, but there's a lot of stuff I can't get into here.

Me too! I hope to be a JC Skipper in 2 weeks. I love the fact that as a skipper, you make the attraction. It's all up to you to create the storyline for the guests.

I would have to disagree with the earlier poster who said
"Where ya work has nothing to do with how much you enjoy the program"

I was a CP in 2000 and I think my dislike of the program had everything to do with where I worked. I was in QSF&B in epcot and the job was horrible. I had 2 jobs while I was there. I first worked at the Fountainview Cafe&bakery, and actually that place wasn't bad. I actually got to talk to the guests and got to look out the windows and see the fountain and SE and I knew at all times that I was working at epcot and it was awesome. and at times I thought that there was noowhere else on Earth that i'd rather be however, halfway through my program I was moved over to Pasta Pizza, which used to be behind the fountainview but is now a character greeting area. I got to cook food in a hot kitchen all day and had very little contact with guests and if it wasn't for the mickey shaped pizzas I could have been in any kitchen anywhere in the world.
I enjoyed my living arrangements, got along great with my roommates, loved Florida and going to the beach and the parks and pretty much everything about the rest of the program but because of the job I had, I was still left with a bad taste in my mouth and I don't believe it has anything to do with my attitude either. I love Disney and working there had always been a dream and I had a great attitude going in to the program, but it was my crummy job and the attitude of the people at my crummy job that changed things for me. I would agree that people in QSF&B will have a harder time enjoying their program than others might. If you're going to spend 6 months flipping burgers, cooking pasta, or shovelling pizzas out of an oven, then you might as well get a job at your local mcdonalds or pizza hut and save yourself the trouble and make more money.

What does QSF&B stand for?

Anybody have any stories of hospitality for me?

Quick Service Food & Beverage (I.E.--Pecos Bills, Cosmic Rays, Liberty Inn, Electric Umbrella, Pizzafari, etc...)

That's the field my sister worked in. In her case, it was at the Sunset Ranch Market at the Studios, a few yards down from two of her all-time favorite WDW attractions: Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (she just ADORES Aerosmith!).
