The Castle is a Weenie

(No, not trying to be gross) Ok, I'm sure some of you already knew this, but I was just informed today that Walt referred to the castle as a primary weenie...like the hot dogs he used to bait his dogs with to come to him.

The quote I'm reading about MSUSA and the castle says, "What you need is a weenie, which says to people 'come this way.' People won't go down a long corridor unless there's something promising at the end. You have to have something that beckons them to 'walk this way.'"

So, the homing beacon effect I feel with the castle was intentional (Which I kind of figured)..and is the result of a weenie (which I didn't figure). Funny that you can actually get a weenie at the end of MSUSA by stopping into Casey's. I guess maybe this is why the hat was added to DHS...I.e. they felt they needed a stronger beckoning force?

Still, just kind of floored that the castle was included because of a simple dog luring trick. Definitely my 'who knew' for the day.

That was a common statement of Walt. He used it to refer to any attraction or scene, a weenie was needed to draw people in.

just like the Steamboat drawing guests to the ROA, the theming of many attractions to draw people to the attraction, etc.

kind of a fun way to put it!

I thought it was very interesting the first time I read about it, too. And someone will have not heard it before!

Every once in a while, you'll see someone use the term in a post. Instead of listing them out as "the castle, the ball...", et cetera, they'll just say, "the weenies."

I've probably seen the reference and just completely disregarded it...maybe even thinking the person was being snarky.

I've never heard it referred to as that and I've been visiting since I was 6 months old! It makes complete sense though. Walt was such a smart man!!

Every park has a weenie, so are they really going to get rid of the hat are they going to replace it with something? Without a weenie no one will no where to go at HS (except to get in line at TSM)

Just searched "movie line where's the weenie" and got my answer.
In Full Metal Jacket, the combat reporters are having their daily briefing. The commander makes reference to a story Private Joker wrote about a mission he went on. The commander says," and Joker, where's the weenie?". Meaning, Joker hadnt mentioned any kills in his story. The commander told him he couldn't write a story about a combat operation that didn't result in a kill.

My only complaint is that the park seems to be filled with too many weenies and nothing more.
