The Capt's back - the low points

1) Monday July 31st - Virgin Atlantic's computers went down at Manchester Airport - this resulted in a delay of up to 4 hours. We arrived at 0730 Tuesday August 1st and found the delay have been brought back to under 2 hours. However, having boarded the plane they discovered "technical" problems which resulted in eventually landing at MCO over 4 hours late.

2) Some anonymous "kind person" hit our rental car while it was parked at DownTown Disney causing front end damage and they didn't leave their details. So having notified the rental company by phone, we had a visit from the local sheriff at our villa and had to file an accident report. Thankfully, I was fully covered with the insurance and so there were no problems when the vehicle was returned to the airport.

3) Magic Kingdom. Sat near the Partners statue waiting for SpectroMagic when some of the feathered wildlife flying overhead decided to move their bowels all over the Capt and his camera equipment.

4) We had vouchers for Discovery Cove. The vouchers stated that we needed photo ID when presenting them, so passports were the obvious choice. PANIC, we turned the rooms and our luggage upside down during a 60 minute game of "Hunt the Passports". Found them eventually.

5) Discovery Cove. Arrived on our allocated day, enjoyed a lovely continental breakfast, much swimming followed by a very nice lunch. An hour later we headed to the Sea Horse Cabana for our Dolphin Experience to be told that there had been an "accident" in the water during one of the earlier sessions. As a result they were running late and they therfore had to re-schedule the swim times. The bad news was that they were looking for 5 volunteers to come back another day as they didn't have enough time for everyone. We volunteered - we missed out on the swim that day but got another day at DC completely free and of course, the Dolphin Swim.

6) Finally, The flight home. Everything on time, luggage checked in and everyone through the heightened security checks, the boarding announcements were made and people started to board the plane when the gates were shut due to an electrical storm immediately over MCO. The delay was over an hour but due to favourable winds we landed back in the UK only 40 minutes late

I can't wait to hear the good points!!! There is a thread around here somewhere about the accident that happened with the dolphin....if you didn't hear about it already (a little boy got bit). Hope you had a great trip!

It sounds like everything that could go wrong went wrong.

I hope this doesn't put you off for several more years before you make another trip across the pond to WDW.

Zz.

I had an even bigger Virgin Atlantic delay many years ago when the plane was broken and they had to fly the replacement in from Tokyo. It was the better part of ten hours late. There's only so many times you can look at stock in Sock Shop to keep yourself amused at an airport

It also meant that instead of getting to Miami in the early afternoon for a four hour drive to Orlando (I was given a big discount and free upgrade to a soft top for flying to Miami) I would be landing nearer midnight. However Virgin booked me into a swanky hotel at Miami airport and arranged transport to the car rental place the following morning.

It's the only time I've had a significant delay with Virgin (having since flown with them many times on the Boston route).

Capt,

I am sorry, but I had to laugh at #3 which I hope you can look back on and laugh also. I can't wait for your trip report.

With reference to "The Birds Loose Bowels" - Yes, I can look back now and laugh. My family were laughing at the time, but not so that I could see or hear.
I'm afraid a slightly older CM took the brunt of Hookys wrath at the time. She was stood nearby and saw the incident, she came hurrying over and asked if she could get me anything (implying a tissue or a towel), I requested a gun - she saw the funny side (eventually)

My sister got pooped on three years in a row. This past visit, she finally got smart and took another shirt with her. What happened? The birds knew about it and left her alone.

Thanks for the trip reports!!
