The best seat is.....

Some of these have been discussed in various threads, but I couldn't find one thread dedicated to this topic.

What are your tips or preferences for the best seats for rides and shows, and best tips to get those seats? What seats give the best thrills, most wet rides, best view of the attraction etc?

Let's hear your opinions!

(And I know there are a million parade preferences, so I didn't include any in my list)

Here are a few I have compiled.....
Everest
-I like the back. The back car is at full speed when it hits the drop!
Rock N Roller Coaster-since this isn't a "drop" coaster, I think the front seat offers the best view. But some people claim the back is a better ride.
Soarin- I always ask to sit in the front, even if I have to wait for the next seating. No legs dangling in your view.
PhilharMagic-Most people agree that 3D movies always give the best effect in the middle of the theater, towards the back. Wait until about 50 or so people have entered the doors before you go in. That way you'll be closer to the center. Look for a row already half full.
Space Mountain- I've heard the back is more bumpy than the middle or front.
Big Thunder Mountain- Back feels much faster over the drops. That's where I sit...I'm a thrill seeker!
Tough to be a Bug -(See PhilharMagic above) Sit toward the rear and left if you think your kids might be scared of the giant Hopper AA.
Festival of the Lion King-Sit as close to the front as possible if you want a chance of being chosen to participate.
Kilimanjaro Safaris-The back of the vehicles are more bumpy than the front due to the placement of the back wheels.
Dinosaur- The scariest dinosaur is on the right, so sit accordingly.
Tower of Terror-The seat with the most airtime used to be the one in the center back with the seat belt. Now, they all have seat belts, so I don't think any one seat has an advantage. I dislike sitting against the side walls personally.
Haunted Mansion-In the stretching room, position yourself under the painting of the woman with the parasol if you want to be the first to the doom buggies in your group.

Kids should sit in the middle for Dinosaur, HM. I like the front seat of most coasters, but at this point it doesn't matter to me, especially at Disney. Although my husband always requests the front for BTMRR.:D If you're a larger person like myself, there's more leg room in the front of Space Mountain.;)

In the Parks
Yes
Universe of Energy - don't sit close to the front if unless you like looking up for 37 minutes
Test Track - I like middle front the best
Splash Mountain - front row left if you like getting wet but not too soaked, front right if you want to get as soaked as possible
Living with the Land - every bench on the boat is uncomfortable, doesn't matter where you sit
Star Tours - anywhere is fine as long as it's not the end of a row

For EE and Space Mountain we prefer the back because it seems the fastest although Space whips you around pretty harshly, for Splash Mountain the front is the most fun because of the splash and because you actually go out over the drop off just before the boat tips. I think RnR is good just about anywhere but the front is just more fun IMO.

ALL the coaster type rides I'm standing in line requesting a front seat seat. Or I'll take the last seat on the ride. They thrill me the most.
In the theaters I'll try getting a seat in the last rows... only because I get a better view of everything and once the shows over I can escape the venue first without having to deal with the crowds jostling on their way out.
Soarin... I prefer no feet dangling in my view of the screen.
ToT... its the back row I prefer.
Safari... I like the seat behind the driver. I get a view of what he/hes seeing first and I interact for the short time with the CM before the ride begins and after its over.

For shows:
  • Dream Along with Mickey: across the street on the hub side, people always seem to stand to close to appreciate the whole thing.
  • Festival of Fantasy: Main Street in the town square “island” anywhere from opposite the M&G theater to opposite city hall, grab a late lunch and watch from Pecos Bill’s, the 2nd level of the train station can be fun for people that have seen the parade a few time but I don’t recommend it for first time viewing.
  • Main Street Electrical Parade: see above, replace late lunch with dinner.
  • Celebrate the Magic: at least as far back as the Partners statue.
  • Wishes: Main Street in the street from between the two fireworks FP to between Casey’s and the ice cream place, behind the castle, or BTMRR exit (better yet ON BTBRR).
  • Illuminations: the platform in front of Italy or the island between the UK and France (when it’s not event space), the openings near Canada and Germany, or upstairs at Japan if you want an interesting view.
  • Fantasmic: first 5 rows in the center third if you don’t mind potentially getting wet.
  • Fireworks at DHS: if you can see the expression of anyone on the stage you’re too close.

I will always wait for the front seat of EE. The views are awesome, especially at the pause just before the backwards decent where you can see the entire WDW resort for a few seconds. On top of that, you are rewarded with a much more intense backwards drop.

Also, DW and I rode in the back seat of the Seven Dwarves last trip and found that the cart's swinging motion was more pronounced than our first few rides... I'm not sure if the back seat was the cause of this or not.

My personal 'choice seating' suggestions from 30+ years of experience for Walt Disney World, for Attractions and Shows where i have found it makes a real noticeable difference.
I have not included any 'Omnimover' Attractions ( Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, etc. ) as every seat gives everyone the exact same view.

To get these seats on Attractions, just ask a Cast Member.
They can usually take your request, but you may have to wait until the next loading cycle.

For Shows and film presentations, it varies.
If you know what seat you want ahead of time, a little people watching can help you.
Wait and let the audience file into the rows as you hold back.
When you see your row of choice filling up, enter it and take your preferred seat.

And now, the list.

Starting with MK -

BTMR -
Last train car, last row for a more thrilling ride.
Middle train car for a milder ride.
Front row is for the 'scaredy cats' or for those who want to miss out on all the wonderful themed scenery.

Splash Mountain -
Front row in the Log if you wish to get very wet, or you wish to have the best seat for viewing the charming Show elements.
Back row in the Log for those who wish to not get wet and prefer to pose outrageously for their on ride photo.

Pirate of the Caribbean -
Front row a absolute must for unobstructed views of the Show scenes.

Country Bear Jamboree -
Middle center row if you can score it, or sit way in the back to experience all that will be happening around you.

Jungle Cruise -
The starboard side ( right side, to you landlubbers..) seems to have more Show elements and eye candy to behold.

It's a Small World -
Similar to 'POTC', if it's unobstructed views of the Show elements and scenes, the front row of the boat is a must.

Space Mountain -
For a more thrilling ride sensation, sit in the back row of a rocket.
For a tamer experience with a better view of the 'starfield' and other scenery as you ride, sit in the front of a rocket.

Hall of Presidents -
Middle row, center, to get the best view of the massive screens and also the wide stage containing all the Presidents.
Animatronics fans will want to sit in the first row for closer inspection of the detailed figures and non-obstructed view.
Note that the filmed segments will be very close to your nose, however!

Mickey's PhillharMagic -
As with most 3D screen based Shows, the farther back you sit the better the 3D effects. This is especially true with MP, since the screen(s) are huge and there is a fun surprise at the end that is fun to view further back.
I recommend anywhere in the last five rows, center.

Parades -
Three viewing locations i recommend, depending on what direction the Parade is running.
If it begins on Main Street, you want to be standing directly across from the backstage gate.
This is located between the Fire Station and Main Street Vehicle garage.
Stand at the ropes that will be up for Guests to view the parade on the street.
When the parade begins you will have a great view and direct character interaction.

Another great spot if the Parade begins at Main Street is the bridge that crosses from the Hub into Liberty Square.
If you stand behind the trash can that is usually positioned here at the end of the bridge, you will have the perfect
viewing area with no one in front of you...and a 'table' to rest your arm or your stuff as well!
Cinderella Castle is your backdrop as the Parade rolls over the bridge and right in front of you.
Performers and Characters will often interact with you at this location ( you are in the first Guest area they encounter after crossing the bridge with no Guest viewing areas! )

Third spot is for when the Parade begins in Frontierland, and heads for Main Street.
In this case, you want to be standing in the opposite position from the previous Main Street spot mentioned above.
This time, stand directly in front of the Fire House facing away from it and the backstage gate.
There is rarely many people watching the Parade from here ( mostly CMs off duty ) and you will get a lot of Character interaction since you are one of the last Guests they can interact with before stepping 'offstage'.

Continuing with EPCOT , now....

Universe of Energy -
Front row, center if you wish to get the full effect and a great view of the prehistoric Show scenes featuring various dinosaurs.
If the 'fog effect' is working ( not always the case ) those first few moments rolling into the scene are fantastic.
Note that sitting here will make the large format films shown VERY close to your nose, but i recommend riding at least once in the front row as it will help you appreciate this neat prehistoric scene all the more.
For a more balanced experience, where you can view the film not so in-your-face, i recommend anywhere in the a center row.

Test Track -
Front row for the thrill seekers, for sure.

Soarin' -
Front row, middle glider a must for the most authentic experience.

Living with The Land -
Like all Attractions involving boats as the mode of transport, front row is best for unobstructed views.

The American Adventure -
For prime viewing of the stunningly realistic and entertaining Animatronic cast and set pieces, the second row, center seat on the rooms centerline is 'IT'.
I would say front row, but here the front row is for handicapped seating only.
There are only a dozen or so seats however, so you have a front row unobstructed view.
So the 'second row' is in reality the first Guest accessible row.

For a more balanced viewing experience, where you can see the AAs close but also not have your nose up against the projection screen, anywhere in the middle rows, center.

On to DHS , now.....

The Great Movie Ride -
When running during busy days, both ride vehicles will be departing the loading area together.
On slower days, usually only one is running per departure.
If you wish to see unobstructed views, be up close and personal with your Cast Member host/performer, and see the amazing Wicked Witch of the West animatronic wonder up close, sit in the front row, first vehicle.
You will also get to see the 'Gangster Shootout' performed for your entertainment with two Cast Members interacting with each other and the riders.

If you prefer a more overall experience, and want to see the 'Western Shootout' instead, you want to sit in the first row, second vehicle.
For a more balanced experience, sit towards the center of either ride vehicle.
Fans of the film 'Alien' should sit on the RIGHT hand side.
Fans of the film 'The Wizard of Oz' should also sit on the RIGHT hand side.
Actually, come to think of it....the majority of the major Show scenes in this Attraction are mostly on the right hand side!
Sit accordingly, people !

Star Tours -
A tamer ride is to be had if you sit in the front row.
The 'flight' feels less turbulent and the 3D projection effects are not as 'intense'.
For a much more lively flight with full 3D effects, sit in the back row in the last seat on either end of the row.

Muppet Vision 3D -
Like all 3D screen based presentations, the farther back you sit the better the 3D effect.
However, 'Muppet Vision' is not like your typical '3D movie' Show. No sir..
If you want to fully experience the live action elements of this presentation, i recommend the first two rows.
You will get a great close view of the Muppet characters up in the balcony seats, the penguin orchestra antics, and see Sweetums bound out right in front of you.
Note that the screen will be really close, however!
For a more balanced experience, where you can see of this and enjoy the film too...middle row is a must.

Beauty & the Beast Live On Stage -
I find the absolute best seat to be directly behind the 'directors pit' located halfway up the seating area.
This is where the Show techs, director, and other operators sit as the Show is running.
Most Guests won't sit here thinking their view will be blocked, but it is actually a great spot especially for photography.
You also get the fun of watching a little 'behind the scenes' action right in front of you..as well as the Show.

And finally, DAK -

Dinosaur -
For a more thrilling adventure, sit in the back row in either seat directly at the end of the row.
The back row, extreme right hand seat as you load is a favorite.
The Imagineer who programmed the motion of the vehicles movement sat here..and you can feel it ! ;)

If you sit on the right hand side in any row, be sure to pose when the second Carnotaurous 'attacks' your ride vehicle.
You will be in a prime spot for the on ride photo.
The right hand side also gives you the best view of the first scene with prehistoric creatures, which is one of the more visually impressive scenes in the entire Attraction.

Expedition Everest -
The front row is a must for Yeti seekers...but like most coasters, the back row yields a more jolting ride experience.

Kilimanjaro Safaris -
Almost any seat is good, but for photography purposes you want to be on the end of any row.
Sitting in the front row gives a interesting view and possible Cast Member interaction, while the back row enables you to turn around and see something you might have missed without staring someone in the face!

Festival of The Lion King -
The 'Giraffe' Section was always my top pick, Row 2 center. or Row 8 center.
The Simba and Pumbaa floats will be facing you, with the Elephant and Giraffe floats flanking you.
This way, you will be able to enjoy the movements of those characters on their floats and it gives you some nice eye candy.

If you are a Timon and Pumbaa fan, a highly recommend sitting in the 'Warthog' section in the first four rows.
Watch the two characters interact with each other during the parts of the Show when other acts are taking center stage ( some great interactions between them ).

If you have children with you, sit in the front row in any section.
Performers come around looking for kids to join them in the Show during certain segments, so if you want a chance for your little ones to be involved, sit here.

Row 2 in any section is usually the place to be for close up photography.
The very BACK row of any section is where to be for a good field of view ambiance, distance photography, and where you can appreciate the lighting effects and overall staging of this production.

:)

Great thread!

My List:
Barnstormer - Making a kiddie coaster "thrilling" is hard but if you sit in the last row it feels faster
Big Thunder Mountain - I think I have sat in just about every row but I have found the last row is my favorite
Everest - The last car (specifically the last row)
Friendship boats
- Outside so you can catch the wonderful breeze
Grand Fiesta Tour - Front or back rows
Kilimanjaro Safaris - Last row of the car b/c you can get a better view of the animals
Maelstrom - Last row seems to make the drops more fun
Primeval Whirl - My favorite is the far right seat b/c it feels like you may fall out on the first turn
Rock N Roller Coaster - First car (specifically the front seat)
Soarin - I like the middle row something about other riders feet above you makes it fun
Space Mountain the front seat of the second car is my favorite it seems to be less shaky
Splash Mountain
- I'm not a huge fan of getting wet and then having to trudge around a park in wet clothes all day so the middle seats are my pick
Test Track - Back row but the best seat is the back right side because I feel like you are higher up and catch more wind in you hair
Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover
- Last car facing backwards you get the best views
Tower of Terror - I once again prefer the back row I feel like you get the best view of the park from here
