Trip Report The AP Trip Thread

Howdy! So I didn’t see a thread for APs to post frequent trips. Feel free to post any random WDW pictures here. I’ll start with some from today. It’s a beautiful July 3rd here at MK.

After breakfast at Whispering Canyon, we took the boat over to MK.

All these years and I have never noticed this outside Pirates!

I’ll post more pictures here in the future. Maybe not every trip, just a few decent pictures here and there.

Part 2 of July 3rd! A little backstory, I have been an AP forever and have been going to WDW almost weekly since I was a baby. The tradition is to do MK 7/3 and EC 7/4.

It was great seeing the omnibus out and about mid afternoon!

We ate dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table. We got a table with a great view of Fantasyland! They have significantly improved their appetizer selection since my last visit a year ago. They now have a braised beef as an appetizer! It was excellent. The filet was good and cheesecake is always a win.

There are easier ways to tell time, but they are not quite as fun ~ Walt Disney (or at least something close to that lol)

We saw the fireworks from Fantasyland and left around 11. Overall, a great day! Stay tuned for more.

So I'm not an AP, but my daughter is. She also isn't on these boards but I thought I would share her day or her attempt at a day at Magic Kingdom.

It started when she called me at 8am on July 5th. She had woken up early and got a VQ for Tron and was getting ready to go to Magic Kingdom!

Upon arrival she hit up stores to get out of the heat already.

IMG_8644.jpeg

Next I got a text that said left or right? Always left was my reply.

IMG_8645.jpeg

Off to Pirates she went. She proclaimed it was too hot to stand in line at Big Thunder and headed to Fantasyland to wait for her Tron VQ.

IMG_8646.jpeg

By this time her VQ was called for Tron so she got in line. It was quite long and a lot of it is outside with little shade. I received quite the text about sweating in places she’s never sweat before. She decided to get out of line and wait to see if she could come back towards the end of her queue to see if the line would be any shorter.

Her plan was to go to COP to try and cool down.

IMG_8650.jpeg

After her spin I was told it wasn’t very cool in COP and she couldn’t handle it anymore.

So after two rides my sweet northern girl gave up and went home. I let her know maybe she should go in the evenings. Her reply was maybe she’ll go back in October.

This was the last text/gif I got from her as she was leaving.

My Seth, who is from PA, went to college in Savannah GA and he txtd me one February day when it was 70 and he was freezing with a hoodie on and said, "the south makes you weak"! 🤣
These kids used to wear shorts and hoodies to school with 6 inches of snow predicted!
He is an AP now and has been going to the parks and said they are only melting a little.

The first year we moved to FL and got our APs we would play spot the Floridian in the parks when it was 45F and they were all wearing parkas. The people from MN were still in shorts and T shirts. We have a good friend who performs at Disney Springs who would frequent the parks with us, and he we laugh at our game because he is from NJ and also bundles up now when it hits the 40s. One night we were waiting for him to finish his set at an outdoor bar in the Marketplace, back when they did 2 acts at a time each playing 30 minutes on and 30 off at each stage. I just got so chilly, so I went to the car to get our hoodies. ( There were actually parking lots nearby then gasp! ) When I got back, Nick was sitting there with Sabrina. "Where were you?" he asked me with a smirk on his face. I explained, but realized she had already told him. "Welcome to your Florida blood" he told me "You are cold and it is 72F out". The dumbest thing we have ever done was agreeing to go and watch his sets on the night of Christmas Day. I will admit that more than a few adult beverages had been consumed (TGIF at the Crossroads was our go to place after he played), but we went and I am from IL. I know about cold. but it got down to about 30F by his third set and to me it felt like 20 below. He had to cancel his last set because he couldn't feel his hands on the guitar. It also maybe because the third set was Sabrina and I and maybe 3 other people watching. This is why Nick wanted us here. Sabrina loved to dance and would frequently dance alone, as the only person dancing for many of our friends that played there. She frequently got the crowds up and going for them. I will maybe dance a bit after a few drinks, but she will dance every song, every band, every set. She was so cold that night she danced the first set for him and Andre I think but she was also freezing. The funny thing is when we moved to TN to take care of her parents I could mow the lawn with a feels like of 112F and not bat an eye. They thought I was insane but the temp thing goes both ways. I currently have a condo in Chicago and Central Florida and a house in middle TN. I will be selling the Chicago place soon!

Hopefully she gets acclimated soon. Can't let that AP go to waste!

July 4th started out at DAK. Typically, DAK and DHS have smaller crowds 7/3 and 7/4, and then are busier 7/5. This year was no different. Dinosaur, KS, and EE were all walk ons.

I have always loved this view!
IMG_1598.jpeg

We park hopped over to DHS, where lines were also short. 25 Minutes for RotR in the middle of the day, 10 minutes for ToT. I did RNR sólo so I used the single rider line, also a walk on.
IMG_1603.jpeg

We finished 7/4 at EC. This pick is from 7/5 because I actually didn’t take any pics that night. Dinner was at Le Cellier, which was decent. It has steadily lost ground since 2010~ in my standings but is still good. 7/5, dinner was at Space 220, which is always a blast (hopefully not literally!). Their steak is very good and the atmosphere is great.

It was an amazing trip. DW and I really enjoyed the Riviera more than I expected to. It was low on our list of resorts we wanted to stay at but we decided to give it a shot this time. The rooms are nice, but for some reason they have 2 showers and only one sink. Strange. The lobby is of course underwhelming, as is the lack of exterior ornamentation. As someone who has been to the real Riviera and has stayed at nicer hotels there for lower rates than at Disney, I don’t think I would stay at Disney’s Riviera again.

For comparison, here are photos from last fall when we stayed at the appropriately named Hotel Westminster overlooking the English Promenade in Nice, France. I regret not taking more photos of the lobby but these two are from what was like a drawing room (?).

The exterior of the historic Hotel Negresco. This is what the facade of the Riviera should have been more like.

The true benefit of the Riviera is its location. It is very convenient to access DHS and EC. And while we did enjoy staying there, I would still recommend Port Orleans French Quarter or Gran Destino Tower over Riviera, even though they don’t have the same level of unique transportation. They are a much better value.

I LOVE watching Nick! One of my best friends from school used to make his custom guitars. Haven't seen him in awhile - thanks for bringing up the memories!

It’s been a couple weeks since my last update, so here’s another one:

Yesterday we went to MK! We arrived early afternoon and the weather was perfect all day. Plenty of clouds and a strong breeze throughout.

IMG_1850.jpeg

We started the day out by riding the Main Street vehicles, first the car and then the omnibus.
IMG_1859.jpeg
IMG_1882.jpeg
IMG_1886.jpeg

Lunch was at the Skipper Canteen. This was a really cool wall sconce and I just had to take a picture of it!

IMG_1893.jpeg
IMG_1900.jpeg

We saw the parade from TSI and caught the Liberty Belle as well!
IMG_1919.jpeg

We also did a few other attractions, like Tron, the JC,Mermaid, and we saw the fireworks.

Overall, it was a very fun day. Heavy crowds but we made the most of it and did at least 9~ attractions at a relaxing pace.
