July 4th started out at DAK. Typically, DAK and DHS have smaller crowds 7/3 and 7/4, and then are busier 7/5. This year was no different. Dinosaur, KS, and EE were all walk ons.
Baby zebra!
A lonely male elephant.
I have always loved this view!
We park hopped over to DHS, where lines were also short. 25 Minutes for RotR in the middle of the day, 10 minutes for ToT. I did RNR sólo so I used the single rider line, also a walk on.
We finished 7/4 at EC. This pick is from 7/5 because I actually didn’t take any pics that night. Dinner was at Le Cellier, which was decent. It has steadily lost ground since 2010~ in my standings but is still good. 7/5, dinner was at Space 220, which is always a blast (hopefully not literally!). Their steak is very good and the atmosphere is great.
It was an amazing trip. DW and I really enjoyed the Riviera more than I expected to. It was low on our list of resorts we wanted to stay at but we decided to give it a shot this time. The rooms are nice, but for some reason they have 2 showers and only one sink. Strange. The lobby is of course underwhelming, as is the lack of exterior ornamentation. As someone who has been to the real Riviera and has stayed at nicer hotels there for lower rates than at Disney, I don’t think I would stay at Disney’s Riviera again.
For comparison, here are photos from last fall when we stayed at the appropriately named Hotel Westminster overlooking the English Promenade in Nice, France. I regret not taking more photos of the lobby but these two are from what was like a drawing room (?).
The exterior of the historic Hotel Negresco. This is what the facade of the Riviera should have been more like.
The true benefit of the Riviera is its location. It is very convenient to access DHS and EC. And while we did enjoy staying there, I would still recommend Port Orleans French Quarter or Gran Destino Tower over Riviera, even though they don’t have the same level of unique transportation. They are a much better value.
