Is anybody watching Amazing Race this season? This is only the 2nd episode I've seen, but I'm liking it. I hope the Gahgen family does well, but I can't tell who my favorite team is yet. The Paulo family definitely gets on my nerves! They were fighting before they even started the race today.

In regards to the Paulo family, there literally hasn't been a word out of their mouths all season that hasn't been disrespectful toward the mother. Like...not one word.

We're watching. My boys were insanely excited when they saw there were going to be kids around their age. They wanted to be on the show (a little late for that, obviously). In the first ep's opening, the boys immediately related to the Black family, who could be seen playing soccer and doing karate. Unfortunately, they were the first to be philiminated.

Now the boys root for the Gaghan family, because they think little Carissa is cute.

I'm rooting for the Godlewski sisters and the Bransen family. Both teams are from the Chicago area and seem to be pretty good racers.

I've watched all the Amazing Race Seasons and love the show. The family episode is a little less exciting because they are not traveling abroad, but they have gone to lots of places in the US that I have never seen before. I think it would have been cool for them to have a stop in WDW and have to find a park and attraction to get their next clue.

Carissa was pretty cute on tonight episode singing about her dad's lost pen and when they got to the pit stop.

My sister and I follow each episode with text messages of our favorite nuggets of wisdom.

Pennsylvania: Is that a state?

Washington D.C.: What state is that in?

Lake Pontchartrain: Is that a great lake?

Those are some of our favorites too - exactly how stupid do you have to be to not know that Pennsylvania is in fact a state?

I was a bit disappointed last night that they seem to be perpetuating Southern stereotypes - making two of the stops a race track and a mobile home lot. They drove through Birmingham twice. Why couldn't they have stopped at our Civil Rights Museum or our lovely botanical gardens?

I was excited to see them at the Space and Rocket Center. I lived in Huntsville for three years the first time and 1 year the second time. One of the best places I have ever lived. We spent a lot of time at the Space and Rocket Center and it was so cool to see it on the tv. I agree with hcswingfield though. Why do they have to make the south look so, I don't know, poor? I have lived in many many places and there were mobile homes and race tracks in all of them. There were many beautiful, historic, elegant things about the south that I loved. Why focus on the mundane.
I live near Lancaster, PA now. I can't believe they were actually here, filming. I wish I would have known.

I was really taken aback by that too, especially the trailer park. With all the beautiful old homes that are (were?) in that area, it was really an insult to house them in a trailer park.
Also I couldn't help wondering how much of all they showed in NO is still there now? It was pretty mind-boggling to think about.
Is it just me, or does there seem to be a lot more whining and dissing during this season? (and mooning!)

I am also cheering on the Bransen family, I am liking that the three girls are not yelling at each other, and the dad is quite funny.

And Walter was wearing the same exact Illini basketball shirt I have last night. So OF COURSE I have to cheer for them. ;)

I am enjoying this season, though I think next week they FINALLY leave the country. I am guessing either Canada or Mexico.

You'll have that when you have more people involved and less maturity.

I have enjoyed this season. Being from the South, I have to admit that the trailer park stop seemed a bit lame to me. At the same time, however, trailer parks are all over the place. Even though it is a stereotype, it is still the South.

I lived in the French Quarter for a couple of years in the late 70s. As the teams were running through it, it amazed me how little had changed since I lived there. Then the sobering thought came that it is all very different now. Even after they rebuild, some of that old magic will be gone forever.

Yeah - I have great memories of the FQ too - Hurricanes at Pat O'Brien's, great food at Tujac's (?), music, etc. Come to think of it- that was the late 70's too - perhaps you remember me - I was quite drunk and running through Jackson Square singing "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans"!

I was in the way too short shorts dancing at the Parade Disco, or getting loaded at the Sunday beer blast at the bar near the Esplanade end of Decatur street- don't remember it's name right now.

I also sang for Saturday and Sunday brunch at the Decatur House. Used to practice guitar in Jackson Square. If I left my guitar case open, I could pick up a fast $40 while trying to figure out the chords to a new song.

i was saying the exact same thing about the southern stereotypes...my boyfriend spent his high school years in hattiesburg- so when i heard they were going there i called him to tell him to turn on his tv...i was SO disappointed (and embarassed that i had had him watch) when i found out they were just staying in mobile homes. i mean come on- and then they just left the next morning- and i know for a fact that hattiesburg is a beautiful little college town.
this season has not been nearly exciting- and i think that has to do not only with the locales- but i also don't feel like we get a chance to "get to know" the contestants- it is hard to say "i like this family for these specific reasons" unlike Kris and Jon or Uchenna and Joyce...where you love them because you get to know them....does this make sense?
i'm excited that there is an amazing race thread!

How many ways can we say go fast?

Paolo: Vamoose!
Gadleski: Por favor, rapido... when you can.
Weaver: Undelay! You know, what Speedy Gonzalez says!

I had a feeling this one was going to be non-elimination. What was that black thing one of the Galdeski sister's had on her head though? She planning on going to a funeral during the race? The other non-elimination will probably be when they get down to the final 3. I'm still going to the Gahgen or Bransen family. The Linz's are okay too. But I have to admit that I laughed when the Gahgen mom ran straight into the back of that van. :o

I had also predicted a non-elimination on this one too. It was pretty funny to see them wearing everything, but now what? They'll have nothing to carry the clothes in unless some other team offers to share a backpack or something.

Also, I never thought they'd go through with the bungee jump - I thought sure they'd just end up fighting about it. :hammer:

Why do all the other teams hate the Weavers from Florida?

I am thinking that they are not showing something, becuase it seems like the other teams really don't like them, especially the mother.

I had to do a quick watch of the episode here at work during my lunch hour, and I was able to watch in about 18 minutes. I skipped a lot of the bird watching and airport getting to and boat stuff. A pretty tame episode, but at least they went outside of the US.
