The Airing of Grievances

It may not be Festivus, but in the wake of two beloved attractions going the way of the dodo in favor of shameless IP promotion, I say we let out our grief in an Airing of Grievances.

I'll start:

I got a lotta problems with Disney, and now you're going to hear about it! I think it is just stupid to replace beloved (well, maybe not in UoE's case--passable) attractions just to promote whatever's hot! And The Great Movie Ride is a classic, a masterpiece! Why close something that has been there for so long, a ride that basically serves as the park's mission statement, just to highlight a 2013 cartoon series, that will more than likely be cancelled sometime in the future? Oh, and BTW, if Runaway Railway is basically a glorified simulator, I'm going to flip! But, that whole "too many screens" is another grievance that I'm sure another person will make. Honestly, I'm just gonna say it--all this shameless IP promotion under Chapek's regime...sometimes, it makes me yearn for the Pressler days! Oh, yes, I said it! I'm telling you guys: the day Chapek is shown the door shall be one of great, exceeding joy!

Well, that's that. Do you guys have any grievances you would like to air? If so, post them here, and, in keeping with tradition, begin your grievance with "I got a lotta problems with you people (or whomever you're targeting), and now you're going to hear about it!"

Well, and with all due respect, yes you do.

I believe you just answered your own question with that one buddy. Why keep a "old and busted" attraction when you could build a "New Hotness"?

Very true!!!

Why close something that has been there for so long

Again, you just answered your own question.

TGMR IS A CLASSIC!!! I hate seeing it go. So let's just change everything while we are at it and make WDW all new. I say get rid of PotC completely and put in something brand new. Who needs Johnny Depp anyways. How about we get rid of Jungle Cruse. Lets face it. If it wasn't for the dumb jokes the ride (sorry attraction) would be boring anyway. Tear down the tree house and put something exciting in from a new movie that I haven't seen. The Railroad! yeah lets get rid of Railroad! Put in a ride (sorry again, attraction) from Cars.

Also, just to let you know I hate the idea of Frozen at Norway. It's EPCOT; it's supposed to be about the country, it's History, and folklore. Not to promote a Disney movie. I guess it's all about the money.

How about that for a vent?

Disney has evolved over the years. Many of the traditions are slowly or suddenly disappearing. I have not to come to terms with all of the changes but reluctantly accept most of the changes. I think my biggest disappointment is the elimination of Wish Upon a Star song in the fireworks show. Something about that song that touched a nerve for me.

While I don't particularly love the new song for HEA, the show itself is pretty phenomenal! I do wish it still had the emotion that Wishes did, but I was not let down when I went to see it back in July.

Disney is a forever changing tapestry of attractions and entertainment. While it's always sad to see a classic go to make way for newer attractions, it is the nature of the beast. On that note, I hate Frozen in Norway, I'm very hesitant about this new Mickey ride (I would be less so if they used a more classic animation style for Mickey and Minnie) and I am looking forward to the new GOTG attraction (Even though EPCOT has lost the true message of its incarnation). I just wish they were being more particular in the IP's they use as some of them may not have the lasting power that the classics do (I'm talking about you Frozen!!)

Universe of Energy sucked. It was old, broken and unnecessarily long and boring, it needed putting down. Great Movie Ride was a hell of a lot better than UoE but again was old, tired, stale.. I could go on. It would have been better if Disney periodically refreshed the ride by changing out scenes with new movies and adding updated effects, projections and animatronics, new scripts and music and so on so that the ride was always fresh but with the constant expense of adding new stuff, licensing and royalty fees and such that was never going to happen. And as mentioned in another thread, stop bashing Mickey and wait for the ride to open before judging. You might find that it is the best thing at WDW. We don't even know what it is yet. Whining about a ride that hasn't even been built yet is just stupid.

My only gripes about WDW is that there are FAR too many upcharge events, parties and whatnot to the point it is just ridiculous and greedy. Halloween parties in August?? Get a grip Disney. Also construction is too slow and the transportation needs a lot of work. But that's about it.

There's a bit of it during the transition from Tiana's part to The Little Mermaid part! It's not completely eliminated ;)

Maybe I'm just a "pixie duster" or maybe it's that I never experienced the nostalgic parks of the 1980s, but I honestly don't have that much of an issue with Disney. In general. I wish they'd add more to DHS, but I understand that they can't have 10000 projects going on at once. I wish they'd stop increasing prices, but they are a business.

I hate all of the new stuff....Avatar, StarWars Land, GoTG. Blech. I can go to Universal for that kind of stuff. I know people will enjoy but I won't be there

And yes, tearing out GMR for screens is a shame. It could have been updated and saved

Okay, I can get not digging Avatar or GOTG. But lumping Star Wars in as "new stuff"? Star Wars has had a presence in WDW for nearly thirty years!

But to many Star Wars still just isn't "Disney" to them. It might have been in the parks for a while, but was only recently acquired by the company. I'm really just not excited by most of what Disney is adding because most of it is all about recently acquired IPs.

ABC had the Droids & Ewoks cartoons, and Disney Channel used to play those Ewoks movies all the darn time.
