The addition of 's' to restaurant names

I remember when I was in high school, someone wrote an article for the school paper on how people always add an S to Nordstrom.
I come from a boring town.

I looked into this a number of years ago. What I found was a large majority of businesses (restaurants, stores, etc) were named after the owner or a fictional character. Adding the possesive 's became a common way to either abbreviate the name of the business in a somewhat informal manner or to add a bit of an informal sound to the actual business name. Because this practice is so pervasive, it becomes kind of a knee jerk reaction to add an 's to a business name that sounds like the name of a person even though it is not.

The one that gets me is O'Hana or O'Hanas. It's not an Irish pub. :) I don't correct people when they spell it this way, but it give me a second or two of cringing.
Cosigned. It happens more often than not. It's 'Ohana, not O'Hana or O'Hanna. I can't expect much, though. I was reading another board this week where a woman was repeatedly spelling the President's name "O'Bama."

I'm not having a go at anyone, but I always find it funny how many times an 'S' gets put on the end of a restaurant name. The names I see a lot are:

Boma(s)
O'Hana(s)
Kona(s)
Jiko(s)

With the S added, they sound like they are named after someone.

It bothers me, too, almost as much as when people put the apostrophe after the 'o' in 'Ohana instead of before it, like it's somekind of Hawaiian Irish pub.

i live in the chicago area ( go to school in memphis) and for some reason i noticed that I add the 's to stores and restaurants for the most part. like i am going to nordstoms or i am in krogers. alot of people in my hometown do too. I am sorry its a habit, but i will try and stop :)

Your spelling of "O'Hana" is causing me much angst by the way :)
