I ask myself sometime ,how can a man turning 60 in November...having been to Disney every year since 1984( honeymoon...sometimes multiple times in year)..get soooo excited ( like a kid) to be going back to Disney? Not just me but the DW and DKs. We look forward so much to making our countdown calander, saving up, waiting for the (AP) rates to come out...sometimes changing resort and dining resies several times. Love reading all of your post and knowing that we are not the only addicted family out there. So what is it? What makes us like this? Its so expensive, but certainly doesn't stop any of us. AND try to explain to the non Disney fans about your addiction is almost impossible. Its is a GREAT feeling....the feeling of "returning home'....whats your thinking in this ?

My wife and I caught the Disney bug after our first trip together in '09. It is expensive and I can think of a bunch of things that money could go toward beside a Disney vacation. We are very frugal with our money and we have to be to afford these trips.

I just told someone at work this week that we are going to Disney in October and they said "didn't you just go there this year"? No, it was last September.

Quite frankly, I don't give a flip about what people think about my Disney vacations. I don't even talk to alot of people about my love for Disney because I don't want to hear a bunch of negativity for something that brings a lot of joy to our lives.

So @MIKETFROMRI, don't ever loose "that feeling". Life is too short.

It's impossible to explain. I've been a Disney Park fan for as long as I can remember, and as I look back over my life I realize that I have essentially been in a continuous state of either Disney-vacation-planning or being-on-a-Disney-vacation since the mid-80s.

It's easy to explain...

I think it's easier to get "that feeling" because of the catalog of quality songs, movies, tv shows, and specials that we've all been exposed to growing up in the last century and the memories that go along with those feelings get stirred up as you enter the parks. It's not just the characters, the cast members, the rides, or the decor, it's that feeling. I'll call that feeling, being "immersed."

Back then, as a child, the whole concept of imagination was used to play with, since you had to lose yourself in it because there wasn't an Internet, video games that had time-consuming missions or deep plot lines, and your parents just wanted you to go play outside until supper time. Now, kids are babysat by a television, youtube videos, iPad, xbox, facebook (for older kids) and what have you, and are less likely to become "immersed" because their attention is always being pulled upon from different directions. It's harder for them to stay focused on the enjoyment in front of their eyes because in the back of their minds, they're still thinking about what's going on with their other stuff.

I just tell people that we're individuals who, for some reason or another, require immersive entertainment that Disney offers no matter the cost. It fills a void in our lives, whether outwardly seen or hidden somewhere deep in our subconscious. While many in this world go daily without the basic necessities which we take for granted, we simply do not feel "complete" until we bask in the shadow of Cinderella Castle, witness the sun glistening off the triangular wedges which make up Spaceship Earth, or receive a warm hug from our favorite princess. It's something that many do not understand. It's something that many would not want to understand. But to us, it is our magic; our escapism from whatever shortcomings & imperfections we have waiting for us once we return to daily routine. We are Disney fanatics, and that is just fine with us.

We've given up trying to explain Disney to people. We love it, talk about it all the time and don't really care what they say when they hear 'were going back Again'!

For people that don't understand.

In my experience many 1st time visitors go to Disney without any knowledge of how Disney operates and are totally miserable. They start off by selecting a time of year to go when the heat is scorching and the crowds are massive. Having no experience in navigating through the crowd mentality they end up spending most of their time melting in hot lines and spending a lot of money on food that underwhelms(because they went to the wrong place) and they end up completely missing the amazing and unique experience that only Disney can offer.

There is a secret to Disney World. I personally know many people who hated Disney World until they started going with me.

Hey!...I also turned 60 last year in November..You must be like me,a Sagittarius..Half man, half horse.Licensed to poo in the parks...Anyway,to your question..I think we are a family of special people who at our age, still see and believe in the magic. Its a bit like the scene in " Close encounters of the third kind".. Where this bunch of people are desperate to get to the mountain, but they can't explain why.?..:cautious: Well that is us..;)
