Thanksgiving Trip

Hello!

Our family got a great offer in the email the other day and booked our trip for Thanksgiving...I'm sure it's crowded and we are planning on making reservations as soon as we can. But any good ideas for places to eat on Thanksgiving? My initial thought was Liberty Tree...just wondering if I am over looking somewhere.

Also what are some other great places to eat? I always enjoy trying a new place or two every trip!

And anyone have any Thanksgiving trip tips in general? It sounds like the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party is either not running or already booked while we are there. So that's a bummer, but it is what it is.

We have been during Thanksgiving week twice and loved it! If you can get there during or before the weekend before Thanksgiving (or stay into the week after) I would highly recommend it. We experienced very low crowds during the week before and after, and honestly the crowds didn't get too bad until the Wed-Sun of Thanksgiving week.

MVMCP is definitely going on at that time, and all the resorts and parks will be decked out for Christmas. We just avoided the parks in general on Thanksgiving day, but other than that we had a great time!

For now we have the Saturday before through the Saturday of thanksgiving week. I will have to check into the MVMCP then...because the Disney guy made it sound like it wasn't. We always figured it would be more crowded...but have always wanted to do a Holiday trip...and this year is the year.

Just checked the site and it looks like the week of Thanksgiving is all booked for MVMCP. The Friday before you arrive is still available, though, if you can move things up a day. Our first trip we drove down that Friday and just did MVMCP on our arrival day - it was great walking into MK that first evening!

I will have to look into it, although I am not sure. Thanks for looking though, what exactly does it entail? I have heard many people rave about how awesome MVMCP is but I'm not 100% what it is.

We went over Thanksgiving in 2009 and liked it. Nice weather (comfortable during the day, cool at night), Christmas decorations were up, and it was crowded but not as insane as we were expecting. Make sure to arrive at the parks early and have your ADRs in place before you go.

I think Liberty Tree is pretty popular for Thanksgiving, so that one may be tough to get. Other restaurants will most likely have a special Thanksgiving-ish dish especially for the holiday. Our Thanksgiving dinner was at Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge and they had swapped their chicken dish for a turkey dish in honor of Thanksgiving. More info here: http://allears.net/menu/men_thks.htm

After looking again - the CM you spoke with is correct, there are no MVMCP dates during the week of Thanksgiving itself. It's not really a "must-do" IMO, but it's a lot of fun if you can fit it in!

As for the event itself - Its a separate ticketed event that takes place in MK on certain evenings. You don't need a park ticket for that day, but you purchase a hard ticket ($62 I think) just for the party. The party officially starts at 7pm, but they allow you to enter the park as early as 4pm. Day guests who didn't purchase the MVMCP tickets are supposed to leave by the time the party starts. There is "snow" on Main St, a special parade and version of Wishes, hot cocoa and cookies, etc. See the link below for more info

Thanks for all the info! I might have to try and get there on Friday...That will be a tough sell with some members of the group though! And thanks for the dining links! I don't even think about talking to travel agents or anything like that anymore...I figure who needs them when WDWMagic is full of experts! :)

My DH I traveled week before through Thanksgiving weekend. It was a marvelous time to go! Parks were super light the week before. Got busy wed evening and through the weekend. We ate at 1900 Park Fare for a traditional Thanksgiving feast. If you call dining, they will tell you who is offering a traditional Thanksgiving meal this year. Have a great trip!
