Trying to decide if we should stay away from the parks on Thanksgiving. I know the parks are crazy crowded, but I'm wondering in what order are the crowds the worst at each of the parks. I assume MK is the most crowded, but how do they rank after that?
I think that you are asking about Thanksgiving Day itself.
When we went to WDW Thanksgiving week, the crowds were fine except for after lunch on Thanksgiving Day. Then it started getting really crowded, especially in the MK. Still manageable, but very crowded.
Conventional wisdom is that Epcot is the best place to be on big days, because it has more space and is better-equipped to handle large crowds than any of the others.
However, these days, is there ever a particularly large crowd at MGM?
Quite honestly, that's what I was thinking about. We're not huge MGM fans, but do want to go one night for Osborn Lights. Didn't know we should do it another night, or maybe go for it and spend Thanksgiving evening there.
I don't log on much to this website. However, I do use it for trip planning and just checking in to see what is going on in the parks. However, I have been to WDW for Thanksgiving and loved it. I agree that the MK has moderate crowd level on Thanksgiving Day until after noon when it becomes very crowded. I was with a party of 14 on Thanksgiving. We had agreed to have our family Thanksgiving meal the day before. We met at the MK on Thanksgiving Day and split up to enjoy our favorite rides. Once the crowds arrived, we had visited all of our favorite things and simply enjoyed the rest of the day using FastPass and watching all the parades and shows. We knew that the potential for large crowds was great and had no expectation of being able to walk onto any of the rides. We loved our day and were able to get a lot of awesome pictures. Later in the evening, we had dinner at Cosmic Rays and watched the parade go by from the balcony. My daughter still says it was the best Thanksgiving Day ever.
Everything I've read says stay away from MK. We spent Thanksgiving Day at MGM last year - had reservations for the Fantasmic package at Mama Melroses. Got there when it opened, grabbed breakfast at Starring Rolls Cafe, headed straight for Star Tours, did LMA and Indiana Jones with Fastpasses, and even managed to do RNR twice. Saw the Osborne Lights (always a highlight) and shopped through every store on the property. Was it crowded - yeah. Was it unbearable - not at all.
