Thank you cards

I'm a Photopass CM, and lately I've come across guests who have things made up as a "thank you" for brightening their day, or spreading the magic, or just making them smile. In the past couple weeks I've recieved both a business card, and a full out envelop full of pixie dust, for a "thanks" and think they are terribly clever. And I can't explain what a magical moment it is.

I've never heard of these things before, but they're really a lovely lovely idea. So it caught my attention that some of you might know what I'm talking about and even have some of your own.

Does your family make up little thank you notes to give out while visiting WDW? Do they give them to just CMs or anyone who's magical?

I want to hear your stories!

Funny you shared something like that, cause you see... my girlfriend was just telling me about a similar experience she had about guests and cards and her as a castmember earlier today.

It's the first time i've ever heard of it, from her, and It seems like a beautiful thing, it really does.

I don't have any stories yet, but I've created simple business card size "thank you for adding to our magic" cards and printed them off for our next trip. I think it's a wonderful thought to present them to CMs that go that extra mile.

I was in photopass for 2.5 years but I'm in a TA now in another area. Where are you usually? :)

Over the last month I have recieved a few very special gifts from guests. They all brought tears to my eyes.

1) A small bouquet of flowers from a 3 year old guest whose birthday it was. Because I stopped and talked to her and wished her a happy birthday. Mom said it was her idea. They are localish and visit frequently and she wanted to do something to give back to the great cast members that are always nice to her. This was so touching I was smiling huge for the rest of the night!

2) This just happened today and is my current favorite story to tell. I made friends w/a little girl last night at the magic kingdom. She was the sweetest thing, about four years old and LOVED Peter Pan. And I mean loved Peter Pan. She knew EVERYTHING about him, all versions of the movie/play and EVERYTHING. I was so impressed. Well anyways after meeting her and making friends w/her last night she tracked me down today (through 2 other CM's and even though I was delayed by the parade route) to give me something very very special. After giving me hugs (I got a lot of them yay) she told me she had a kiss for me. I was like okay... but then she put something in my hand. It was a THIMBLE. Now for those of us who know Peter Pan really well (and I like to think I know it moderately well) a thimble is what Peter gives to Wendy when he says he's going to give her a kiss. I LOVED it and it made my whole day so special. I think that is the most creative thing a child has done for me... :king: I will say now as I say always. I have the BEST job in the world and I honestly LOVE my job.

Wouldn't it be better for the CM, in the long run, if they fill out a positive notation at Guest Relations, or write to Guest Communications?

Ohhh man I'm right there with you. WDW is amazing and I can't imagine every working anywhere else. I would flat out cry if someone gave me a thimble!
Heck I get choked up when Mickey tells Minnie "You've always been a princess to me" in the castle show!

I'm almost always on Main street! I would love to see you arond!

The thank you card is [and should be] in addition to formal input through GR...

A spur of the moment gesture is still very important positive feedback to a CM that deserves it.

I do what I do cause I love my job... so I don't expect a formal input. When a guest tells me thank you or tells me how much something I have done has MEANT to them... that really means more to me then anything else. I could be doing alot of other things then working here, and I am even thinking about going off to grad school soon. But what keeps me here, what keeps me loving Disney even on the worst days, are those guests who really "get" it. The guests who love Disney and come back over and over. I have seen guests come multiple times, and I LOVE seeing guests I've seen on other times through their trips.

Seeing the guests enjoy themselves and get lost in the world of magic, is what I think Disney is all about.

And it strikes me that you're the sort of CM I designed my cards for... The CMs that "get" it are as important as the guests that do. :D

I look forward to the day I hand you a small card just to say in person what I've already expressed here.

I don't know if I "get it" cause there are days when I'll complain w/the best of them LOL. Well there were in my old job. I got a little fustrated and needed some pixie dust myself.

I just love my job. And I really do have the best job at Walt Disney World. I get paid to play w/kids all day mainly. And I LOVE it. I have made so many friends with little ones. I can't STAND to see a kid crying so I'll always be the one stoping to try to make a smile. Usually I play Peek A Boo and that works just fine :).

I really do just love my job and I always have a smile on my face.

They really do mean so much, those little thank yous.
I got one once after the worst day, just one crumby day. And well, the big grin from the guests face that floated over to mine was priceless, and as small as it is, it reminds us about the magic and how real it is.
My question to you, is will you reserve them just for CMs?

Trust me on this... You get it.

Complaining with the best of them goes with any job, but getting past that and being able to stop and try makes you a CM as opposed to a Disney employee... please continue to make the magic, it's the individuals like you that keep me coming back.

I'm going to repeat it because I mean it: I look forward to the day I hand you a small card just to say in person what I've already expressed here.

I've only just made up the cards within the last few weeks. They are neither worded for, nor intended explicitly for, CMs. My plan is to give one to anyone who adds to the magic of my day. And having read the earlier post, I'm considering adding a thimble to each card, the thought touched me. i don't think I'll change the cards to comment on the thimble... If they figure it out, great! If they don't... they will someday and then it'll be even better.

Well thank you so much, that means alot to me.

And I will say I did get "pixie dusted" today by my little friend who gave me the thimble... literally. We put pixie dust on the other cast member that was with us and then they decided I needed some too! She got to take home a bag of pixie dust cause Mom told me the story about how she had it washed out of her hair but this morning when she woke up she was feeling her hair to see if she still had some there. TOO cute!!

FYI .. I think a total of four of the 15 or so people I told today about this (cause I can't stop talking about it I was SO happy) did NOT get the significance of the thimble. All of these were cast members. I think I need to start a Disney Trivia class!!! hehe

I work in an... interesting... location to say the least. Not that much magic happens... but when it does, it's great! A couple of weeks ago, this family with the cutest twin girls ever gave their server two little homemade cards with cute sayings on them... themed with princesses... I wish I could remember what they said but we took pictures of them. Anyways... the server in turn gave the girls Pixie Dust Pins... the whole family was SO EXCITED because the girls really really wanted pins but they just weren't in the family's budget... so now they had their pins!! :) It was so sweet.

Oh my goodness... this sounds absolutely wonderful! Just reading your stories about how the guests can make you so happy really makes me tear up a little! You all go sooo far to make our trips as special as they can be. We'll *definitely* be making up some little thank you notes to take with us.

Is there a gallery anywhere devoted to these wonderful little items?

Fellow Photopass here as well. I received one of those cards as well after photographing a family. They had left, must have confered, and then sent one of the family members back to give me a laminated card that said something like "You've made our dreams come true....the _______ family" It also had a photo of a character on it. Since then, I've seen Cinderella with 2 of those cards on her table in the princess room. Different family name and different wording and character, but the same design. I wonder if there is a pattern for it on the internet somewhere. I've heard of mousekeeping cards that people can print out from the internet.

Pocamahontas & Lhriangel;
Feel like sharing identities? I think I know who Lhriangel is or at least I have it narrowed down to 2 people. Pocamahontas, I've no clue. Obviously we would be doing this in PM.

And I agree...we have the BEST job in the world.

And while those cards are great and GREATLY appreciated and they make your day, It is also nice to receive a Great Service Fanatic Card that goes on your record card as well. It helps offset the times you might punch in 1 minute late.
