We were there right before xmas time so the crowds were high. Even so, the only attractions for which FPs sold out were the big 3: Frozen, TT and Soarin... There's a good chance you won't be able to add a Tier 1 ride in the afternoon.

A day or two before Christmas, we were able to use our 3 and then get an evening FastPass and were able to get one for roughly 9 pm for Frozen...just shows your mileage may vary depending on what day you want to go and when you try to look.

My theory is that Disney releases a set number of FastPasses at the 60 and 30 day marks for the people that choose to reserve FastPasses at their respective opening, and then that morning release another set number for those that didn't reserve ahead, and slowly leak more out throughout the day. This is just my theory, I have no proof. There was a surprising number of tier 1 FastPasses available throughout the week when we were looking for extra FastPasses, however not on every day were there tier 1's for every park.
