Teppan Edo-Is it all that or just hype?

I thought that it was better than Benihana. The one that we went to had poor service, a not so good chef and they even forgot to give us rice! We had to ask for it. Our experience at Epcot when perfectly and we had a great time.
Ive been to three Benihana and all were much better....

Yes
It lacks hot plum wine and sake, Benihana its not. But its also not a burger, chicken finger, or pizza, or generic fish stick with open seating.

Very good but your local hibachi place will probably be better. For me it's all about the cast members. They make it special and have fun with my bad Japanese. It's also a group thing and you'll get more personal service at Tokyo Dining.

Took the family this past spring and the food was good and service was good!

I have these all over Chicago and we go about once a year and this place is on par with the typical we have here.

Ok, this is a random trivia note...but what we tend to call Hibachi in the US...isn't Habachi. It's Teppan-Yaki. (and, now you know where Teppan Edo gets its name from! Edo (pronounced yeh-doh, not eee-doh or ehh-doh means cove, or something like that, but I'm pretty sure in this case it's referring to the Shogun ruling city of Edo, which later became...Tokyo!).

Not correcting anyone who uses the term Hibachi Grill, but it's technically wrong. Habachi is an open fire grill, similar to what we, in the US, tend to call Korean BBQ.

Anyhow, like I said, random trivia.

Teppan is good food, fun chefs (some of the higher end ones I've experienced, depending on how common this style of dining is in your area...I found they did a bit more than the "volcano" and "shrimp bunny" tricks that I generally see at lower end Teppan places.

Very fun, worth a visit! But, also one that I don't mind skipping because Teppan style restaurants are rather common all over the US.

It's an experience. I've done it twice, and have enjoyed it both times! If you're into beers, then you must try the Japanese Beer Flight! My husband loved it. I am not a beer drinker, and I enjoyed the tastes ( 3 beers served with edamame). Don't bother with the tempura though, it was just OK and it was only 3 pieces ( vegetable: but the sweet potato was good). The food is definitely good, especially the steak/filet. The portions are very large. I also enjoy the green tea, hot or iced. The desserts are light ( I enjoyed the green tea cheesecake- small portion). Of course, we are "dining plan" guests. I wouldn't get the dessert otherwise. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend it at least once.

I have always read rave reviews of this Japanese grill but there are several brands of Japanese grills around where I live and for the most part they are all pretty tasty, we have our favorite of course. My question is, are all these great reviews from people who don't usually or never eat in those types of places or is Teppan Edo really spectacular?

We are planning a fall 2016 and hoping for the tail end of Food & Wine Fest (dates for 2016 not released yet) and are cautious about too many reservations in EPCOT but as always wanting to add things we have not done yet. Thanks in advance :)

very good atmosphere and very good food. now as far as the (Japanese steakhouse theme) nothing above the top but we loved it none the less.

if it has not been mentioned yet this is the only place in the continental united states to get the frozen version of kirin. (frozen light beer)

ah than my info is out of date haha i thought WDW and Hawaii

i can assure you teppen edo is much better than watching losers loose all day. =P
There are a few restaurants out in LA serving it as well, iirc. I could google if you like.

It's sortof like the Beverly. Dis fans tend to say you can only get it at Epcot in the US...but that's not true. You can get it at World of Coke in Atlanta as well...

That said, it's great you brought it up because it sounds really neat. I haven't had the chance to try it yet, as I haven't been back since they started offering it (back to Edo...we missed it last trip).

Perhaps I'll swap that with Nine Dragons...though, I'm really trying to keep things to "new experiences" on this trip, and I've done Edo and there's lots of good Teppanyaki in Atlanta...so...

For those of us who would have to deal with several allergy issues going to a regular hibachi restaurant, this is going to be the kids' one time doing hibachi/teppan. When you have a gluten-free child with a shellfish allergy (also milk, tree nuts, and peanuts), he cannot eat at a normal Hibachi restaurant. They always cook the shrimp first. I've heard good allergy-friendly reviews of Teppan Edo that they will cook the allergy-related dinner first and THEN do the rest of the table. That way someone who cannot normally partake in this type of restaurant can enjoy it. (Especially since most soy sauce has wheat in it, so we'll even have to get a different soy sauce for this child.)

I love Hibachi! I wasn't fond of Teppan Edo just because the rice, my favorite, was brought in a bowl instead of being prepared at the table and I'm sure white rice is the standard. I didn't get as much food as I do at any other hibachi I've been to. The experience was fun though.

Agreed... Rice being made in front of you is a huge huge part so yeah it just doesn't measure up to local ones...And not even close to the one in Vegas.

People's enjoyment of Teppan Edo seems to depend on whether or not they have good Hibachi options back home.

Guests who rarely or never visit non-Disney Japanese steakhouses seem to love the place.

Personally, I'd much rather spend my Disney time and vacation money on something that's harder to get back home, like Biergarten, for example.

I totally agree. I loved Teppan Edo, but then I've never been to a similar restaurant elsewhere. Many posters say it's unexciting compared to other hibachi restaurants.

The company you end up with also have an impact. We had a great, very entertaining chef on our first visit and were disappointed to get a rather subdued one the second time. Also on the second visit we were seated with a family who were not enjoying the experience. My DH tried to make small talk with the dad, who clearly wished he had been elsewhere. It was awkward.
