Temporary Further Reduction of Monorail Hours

I will be staying at the GF this Sept and am already worried how the DVC construction will affect my stay. I've booked a lagoon view and will be VERY unhappy if I'm put in Pine Key! Now it seems I won't be able to use the monorail :( I'm starting to wish I was returning to the Poly, at least I could use the TTC or the Ferry boat. :brick:

I'd be ticked no matter which of the 3 I was staying at, but especially the GF. They'll be most affected by this for sure.

I'm 2 days away from booking our summer 2013 vacation. Now I'm thinking of doing a split stay, 8 days at Beach Club and 8 at Contemporary. I never wanted to stay at CR, but figure this might be a good time. Never stayed at either, and Contemporary's the only monorail resort we haven't stayed at. Might as well go for it now.

Note that I have not yet been given the specific dates. While some have speculated it could be months, it could be much less than that, so don't go overboard with it until we have final dates.

Also remember it's only during mid day, approximately 11-18:30. Most people use it to enter the park in the morning and return home at night, along with the dinner rush at night(which it will be back for) so it's only the people moving around during the day who might be affected.

Oh I agree, definitely a good time to make a change! The Beach Club and the Contemporary are on my to do list, do it! do it!

Thank you for that, I like a bit of positive thinking! I prefer to be a pessimist, that way it's a nice surprise when something goes right! ;)

Tough call. I've read a lot of bad stuff about Beach Club's rooms being in rough shape. Plus, just from the pics, they don't look overly appealing. Contemporary rooms don't appeal to me at all, except for the view from the balcony.

I'm just hesitant to book at the GF with the ongoing DVC construction. Once you've stayed there, you expect perfection every time. I imagine by next summer (2013) the construction noise and scenery will be pretty bad.

I'm surprised they'll be working that close to the monorail beam, you wouldn't think the finished footprint of the buildings is going to be very close to the track.

It is not a huge section of land, so the buildings really won't be that far from the beam and they will be moving sections of construction material over the beams during construction. Last thing you want is a ton of construction material falling and hitting a passing monorail. Plus, I suspect they may wish to power down the beamway during the work as a safety precaution too.

And while concept art is far from an exact science: Note the monorail in the right side adjacent to the building. Concept art for GFDVC

Exactly, my stay at the GF in 2008 was perfect and I'm worried it won't be the same with all the construction work. Had I known about the DVC construction before I booked up this year I wouldn't have done it.

The Contemporary or the Wilderness Lodge would have been my choices. If you love the GF as much as I think, this may be your time to try something new and return to the GF once the work has settled.

No offense but what's the point of making a thread telling us you have news you can't share? Even if you just left out the second line.

I agree this type of thread is a waste of space. I will share what I have heard .. The resort & express line will be down for a little bit tomorrow afternoon.
