Tell me what you think...pixie dust in rooms

We're going to WDW in May of 2005. I have 2 boys ages 9 and 5. My 5 year old is Disney crazy (just like me!), and loves Peter Pan. Anyways, what do you think of this idea. Sprinkeling pixie dust (actually, large cellophaney glitter) on them the first night we're there, while they are sleeping. Then when they awake, telling them that Tinkerbell must have visited during the night and sprinkled them with Pixie dust, so that they have a magical first day at the parks!
Wondering if this would be ok with the Mousekeepers at the hotel. Do you think this would cause a problem. I won't be putting alot down, just enough to cause the magic effect.
Any input on this idea? Thanks!

Any kind of glitter or confetti is REALLY difficult to vacuum up. I don't think mousekeeping would be too pleased.

And believe me that stuff gets into everything. I was a fairy godmother 2 years ago for halloween and I am still picking glitter out of my keyboard at work..lol.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's an incredibly cute idea, but my vote would be not to do it.

First of all, I just gotta commend you and your son for loving Peter Pan :sohappy:

And I kinda agree with meatloafsfan. It would be a pain in the butt to clean up, and also what if he inhaled some little pieces throughout the night? And be he start asking questions as to why he couldn't fly even though he was sprinkled with pixie dust?

I think doing something special like that is a great idea and will make things more magical for them, but perhaps just not THAT idea.

Maybe you could buy them each a small gift (a stuffed animal, one of those light up spinny toys, etc) at the Disney store before you leave home, and have it waiting for them at the end of their bed, or on the night table for them in the morning. Leave a little note along with it along the lines of: "I stopped by to wish you a happy first day, but since you were fast asleep, I left you this instead! Have a wonderful vacation, Love, Tinkerbell." Then you can say tinkerbell came by, without having to disturb Mousekeeping.
I think the glitter effect is a great idea though! Maybe you can do it at home the night before you leave. (And then you'll have some "magical" glitter to come home to, as well!)

Maybe you could go to i party or another party store and pick up some of that confetti stuff ehy have I've see it shaped like stars. It's much easier to clean up. You can use a small amount that morning right before they wake up.

If I was your 9 year old and you sprinkled pixie crap on me, I'd be mad as heck in the morning. I mean, I'd toss and turn at night, the "dust" would get in my eyes and hair and it probably would itch. NOT a good idea.

And your 5 year old would be mad cause he'd end up jumping off the balcony thinking he could fly... Not a good idea.

Do them a favor and just let them get a bag of Disney Fudge or something like that. No pixie dust!!!

(Sorry, I don't really want to sound mean, but I really don't think that would be a good idea.)

No... no... no... no. The mousekeepers would not like you at all. And the guest after you wouldn't be very happy either... three trips ago, someone did something similar, becasue there were little flakes of yellow confetti left over for us to get stuck on our socks. It doesn't come up from the carpet. Bad idea! Buy them a nice gift.

I think everyone misunderstood tinkfan. I believe the stuff she's refering to is more or less confetti. Not actual glitter.

"Sprinkeling pixie dust (actually, large cellophaney glitter) on them the first night we're there, "

Now I've never heard of cellophane glitter have you? :p I know what this stuff is like. I say go for it. Provided you don't use tons and don't use the really small stuff, clean up is easy for you or mousekeeping.I'd just clean it up your self rather than add an extra chore to their list. But if you were to leave it, it's nothing a vacuum can't take care of in a couple of seconds.

Why not put your confetti/glitter stuff into those little bottles you'd normally do sand art in, the ones with the cork tops, small as you can find them, and leave a note attached from Tink, as suggested above. They can sprinkle a little on themselves before their trip.

Yep... the thick, big stuff was what the yellow stuff on the floor at ASMovies was... it's made out of a Mylar material, and it has static, which makes it stick to everything, and makes it hard to clean.

If you choose to go the larger confetti route, how about bringing along a lint brush (the stickey tape kind) to quickly clean it up?
Or maybe you could just sprinkle it on a table, surrounding a note from Tink, that way, the mess can be swept into the garbage later, instead of having to be vacuumed up from a carpet (Take it from a crafter.....not fun!)

This is sort of off the wall, but would be a much cleaner way of doing this...

How about baby powder sprinkled about the bed and floor? You could secretly sprinkle baby powder around the bed and on the bedspread while your children sleep. It would be easy to clean off of the floor and bedspread with a dampened towel. The bedspread will be washed when your family leaves, so even if there was left over white residue, it would be washed. As for the carpeting, I am sure with the wipe down with the damp towel, regular walking through the room, and vaccuming, the residue would be gone.

As for the powdery smell... a 5 year-old won't know the difference. Children that young are in a fantasy state when at WDW. (I am sure your 9 year-old knows all about real and fantasy, too)

You can't compare that to the mess glitter would make. I work at a craft store and have lost numerous pairs of shoes because of glitter...never has a bag of confetti done this to me lol :p Granted you may need to bend over and pick a couple peices out of the carpet I don't think it's a big deal. :)

Here's a great idea I had, since the glitter would suck to sleep in and walk around in for a few days, why not buy small confetti (try it out on your carpet first though) and sprinkle it on the carpet, in a swirly line in your room. You can put some outside if you are at the All Stars for example if you want. Then at the end of the confetti (in the room) place some gifts, like Disney candy and a stuffed animal. Now here's what you must do, DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT IT. DON'T SAY "LOOK WHAT TINK LEFT YOU!", just pretend like nothing happened, let them discover it, the trail, and all that cool stuff. Act like nothing happened, heck don't even look at the gifts! If they don't get it, then don't worry, the pieces will come together later.

Have fun.

Another option - edible glitter. Often found in the cake decorating sections of craft stores/departments, made by Wilton. Comes in iridescent clear, and various other colors. I like to use the clear version to add an icy sparkle to gingerbread houses. If I remember right, it's a fine gelatin flake. It might stick to skin a little bit, but easily washed off, and any that gets into the carpet would be eventually ground down to a dust.

That's a really good idea. Especially when the gifts were Peter Pan-related, I would think!

Maybe you could also do something relating to the Peter Pan ride, like Peter leaving a message in the room that says "Meet me in Fantasyland" or something similar.

I work in a craft store too  and this time of year :xmas: is the best (or worst) for glitter, because it seems like every holiday item that we carry is covered in glitter, esp. picks and flowers!
Gotta love vacuuming it up at the end of the night!

But I don't understand how you can ruin shoes with glitter? I come home covered in it, but it's never ruined my clothes.
