We're planning on taking one day of our vacation away from the parks for a change of pace (if i survive the idea lol...) but we're thinking of playing some mini golf. Can anyone tell me any reason to pick one over the other? Is one more shaded than the other?

We enjoy them both, but prefer Fantasia Gardens.
It's not so much the courses being better, but the surrounding area.
I just like the more open feel at Fantasia Gardens versus Winter summerland.
Being in the shadow of those unique Swan & Dolphin buildings is also pretty cool.

Heading for the great escape.
The only thing we found negative was that playing with kids can be slow going, and you do get some impatient arseholes behind you. Even allowing them to pass doesn't spare you from the ill mannered pontifications. Though to be fair I dont think they were expecting a far more aggressive response, but it does take away the enjoyment of some very entertaining courses.

I've only been to Fantasia Gardens but I remember it being a lot of fun! I think it's a great idea that you will be taking one day off from the parks. There is much at Disney besides the parks. I'd really encourage you to try one of the water parks as well (unless you are counting those as a park). I don't think you can go wrong at either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach but if you only have time for one, go to TL. That's actually what we did the day we did mini golfing. We did mini golfing earlyish to avoid the heat and then went to TL/BB in the afternoon. It was a blast.

We need time for things to happen.
I was always curious about the two mini golf courses at WDW. I do enjoy a round of mini golf here and there but i can never bring myself to take time away from my traditional WDW vacation to do this. Maybe if I took a longer vacation I would find time to fit it in, but the way it stands it's going to be the parks, or chilling by a pool before I would take time (and money) to hit one of these.

good to know...i hate that kind of behavior and it grinds on me at disney even more because i go out of my way to be extra polite to people. but with that said i didn't get tagged at work and then by my family as the evil queen for nothing  so let em try lol.

there are two: one with a beachy theme and one with a winter/Christmas theme. both are fun. the only thing i would point out is that there are some not so nice people who get frustrated when things aren't going as fast as they want it, and well, they make it known. other than that i would recommend both. It really goes down to theme.

that's been us too but we're ap holders and live here in florida so i've finally been enough times in one year to agree to give it a try to have one day out of the parks (i think). just my granddaughter and i are going for 7 days starting next week and she wants one day for pool time, to ride the sea racers, watch a movie under the stars, do the marshmallow roast, and play mini golf (we get a discount on this). so i'm taking a deep breath trying not to count what i think of as wasted mickey minutes and go with it lol.

I don't think you will regret it! And it sounds like you get down to the world a few times a year...it'll always be there when you go again ;) Sorry, I am all for the encouraging of trying new things and all those things are very very fun. :) I promise it won't seem like a waste... the theming for Fantasia Gardens definitely has that "Mickey quality" and content.

Yup -- I think you've got a few really good reasons to at least give it a try right there......:)

I recommend Winter Summerland over Fantasia Gardens. First, WS is much more shady than FG. Second, the holiday theming (which incorporates a lot of Disney characters) is fun. Most importantly, it is a much easier course to play in that the holes are angled so that even wayward shots land close to (or in) the hole...a very important consideration when playing with a child!

I believe WS is more shaded than Fantasia Gardens. I like Fantasia Gardens better though. I like the theme better, and it's a bit more challenging. It is not really difficult or anything like that though. WS has shorter holes, and would be easier if golfing with a child. So that's something to consider. I've done both courses at WS, I like the winter one better of those two. Overall, I'd golf Fantasia Gardens if given only one choice. When my little one is old enough to mini-golf I might go back to WS since it'll be easier for her. :)

I agree with others, WS is far more shaded than Fantasia, and does have a number of Mickey and friends appearing every so often throughout both sides of the course. Fantasia is good if you want a challenge, WS is simpler for kids.
We play mini golf at WDW at least twice a vacation (we usually go for 2 weeks) it's good to escape the parks sometimes when it gets hot and busy, plus you're still in the 'magic', a very pleasant way to pass an hour or two in an afternoon!

We've played Winter Summerland a couple of times and really enjoy it! It's a fun activity that you can do during the day and then head to the parks for the evening!
