I can't imagine MK being torn down and replaced. That just seems ridiculous. MK does need repairs, but I agree with the vast majority responding to this question... just fix it- don't replace it! Disney does have crowd control measures, and if you've been there on holidays (like New Years Eve) there are chances that you won't get into the park of your choice after a certain time of the day because the park(s) have closed due to the high attendance.

But then again, when I go to Disney, I expect crowds- that's just part of it. If you were the only person in line for every single ride, and there weren't crowds on the sidewalks... before too long, there would be no WDW- PERIOD! I do get frustrated when I have to wait for a long time for a ride, but I've gotten used to it and just live with it!

I find it hard to believe that someone who was not in a drug-induced coma would even consider tearing down the MK. Perhaps he WAS in a drug-induced coma!

The cost of rebuilding that park, redesigning every tunnel, utility, ride, path, restaurant, stage, buidling, landscape, etc, etc would FAR outweigh the cost of renovating each and every one of those individual things in the existing park.

Sure, they renovate a lot of things, because things deteriorate, and certain attractions lose their appeal. But, they do not have to renovate the infrastructure to renovate a ride, thus making the cost FAR much less than if they started over.

There are only a few times of the year when it's hard to walk through the park, and if that bothers you, GO ANOTHER TIME! And for the people who "will never go back because it was hot, and crowded and they stood in lines" - wonderful! Makes more room for those of us who appreciate the parks and have at least some patience.

Your experience at WDW is directly related to when you go. If you hate heat and crowds, go in the off season. If you enjoy long hours, night shows and parades, go when it's hot and crowded.

I see absolutely no logic in the concept of rebuidling a park because it was successful - so ignorant I had to read it twice.

After reading the article in the Orlando Sentinel I have a few questions. I know it would cost alot of money, but the Magic Kindom is get so crowded now and need alot of money to fix it. Why don't they just built a new Magic Kingdom with more new ride and with more room and close the one the presently have. In about 10-15 years, you wouldn't be able to walk around the Magic Kingdom because it's so crowded and so small. They need more room! Just an idea! What are your thoughts?

Ummmm NO! The cost of repairs are high because they have let things slide for so long... Pay now or pay alot later theory in full view in the parks. The expansion of other parks should help curb crowding. Plus maybe keep all the rides open and replace the closed ones to spread the crowds out.

Maybe we should ask, " If the parks are so crowded, why are they still crying wolf about the attendance being down?" "Where is all the money going for repair??" And why is it not being done!

I am going to make it a point to complain about poor maintenance and upkeep on every future visit. As a AP holder and Stockholder I feel it is my right! City hall here I come!!

First of all...BAD IDEA.
Second, if you've ever been to the dreaded IOA you would realize how much space there actually is at MK.
Whatever!:brick:

if you do that you are closing the #1 theme park in the world. disney would lose an enormous amount of money, plus the cost of rebuilding. i think mk is great just the way it is. disney should concentrate on fixing up epcot and on building up ak. ak could be huge if they give it more e-tickets like e:e. australia would be a great addition. ak could be just as big as mk; if they do it right.

You mean as big as MK as in popularity correct? Because MK can fit inside the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction with MUCH room to spare....but thats getting way off topic..
Closing MK and just rebuilding wouldn't only ruin the place but it wouldn't be anything that I would want to go to..I want C.Castle from '71 not from the current years....it wouldn't look right..there would be something wrong with it and we'd all know it...

New MK? No.

Fix MK? Yes.

And by the way...

Is anyone else besides me wondering why this thread is in "WDW Resorts, Restaurants, DVC, Cruise Line & Trip Planning?

Just curious.
