So I guess in the coming days we'll structure the news and rumors thread with press releases, concept art (if anyone is up for it)... maybe the project itself where we go in detail could be someone posting an opening night trip report?

Indeed. I'll take the Parks Blog PR fluff if no one else minds.

So that's a tie then. I think Fantasia is a far more interesting choice but we can sleep on it and wait for MEW or Tiki to say if they'd allow it.

Hmm... Fantasia is definetly the more "out there" choice, whereas UP is more straight forward. My only problem is that it is a High Risk, high reward. As in, if we botch the Fantasia concept the smallest but, especially in key areas, we have a near guaranteed loss of points. They each have their own pros and cons. IMHO, UP proves more room for creativity with music and puppetry, whereas Fantasia allows for more originality and conceptual creativity.

I've really pushed Fantasia exactly for that reason. Creative storytelling and the potential for a very interesting, new show.

Hmm... Thinking on Tiki's pivotal role requirement, I am wondering as to how we could put the music in that position. The only thing I can personally think of is having a live orchestra, and that is far from practical. I am still leaning UP, but if everyone else wants Fantasia, then I am fine for it, as I still really like the concept.

I would like to concur with Tiki. Music must be the central focus of any musical... Given Fantasia is a film about orchestral music, it makes sense to not have lyrics. However, were you to do Up and have songs with no lyrics, then you'd be in a weird position. It would seem more like "Up on Stage" than "Up the Musical." I hope this helps. Then again, I don't know what creative direction y'all have in mind for Up.

I was thinking live orchestra but if that's a bit too unpractical, what if our main character were a personification of the music?

Imagine: The lights darken. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor starts (an overture for the show) and with the final movement, the curtain rises to show Yen Sid creating the music and then going on to a quest type plot

I shall bend to Fantasia to end this debate. I would like to reiterate this post.
I like the package film/shorts compilation idea, it would lend itself to a creative show easily and wouldn't be a retread of what's been done before. :) Just a matter of picking the right segments. Maybe we could tie in Fun and Fancy Free by having Jiminy Cricket narrate it?

Off the top of my head, sequences that might lend themselves well:
Fantasia - Sorcerer's Apprentice, Dance of the Hours, Night on Bald Mountain
Saludos Amigios - Aquarela Do Brasil
The Three Caballeros - Os Quindins de Yayá, the title song
Make Mine Music - All the Cats Join In, Casey at the Bat, After You're Gone
Melody Time - Bumble Boogie, Blame it on the Samba, Pecos Bill
Ichabod and Mr. Toad - The Headless Horseman song
Winnie the Pooh - The Blustery Day song, Heffalumps and Woozles
Shorts - The Brave Engineer, Melody, Toot Whistle Plunk & Boom, A Symposium on Popular Songs

I guess then that leaves one more question for the judges: would we be allowed to do a package film compilation musical or are we just allowed to stick to one film?
