Project Four: The ABC's of Main Street USA

Based on the "Main Street A/B ticket" project from Season Three

Main Street USA has always been a favorite of mine. While viewed as many as simply an entry point into the park, Main Street represents a true revolution in theme park design as well as some of the most immersive and quirky details in all of the park...In Disneyland at least. While Main Street USA in WDW's Magic Kingdom certainly has a larger scale to it, most will argue that the "Charm" element of the original Main Street USA in Disneyland is lost. Time hasn't been kind of WDW's Main Street as classic attractions such as the Main Street Cinema and the Penny Arcade exist as shells of their former selves and exist mostly as gift shops. For this project, the teams are asked to create three next experiences for WDW's Main Street USA to help bring the "charm" back to the area.

The three experiences must be ranked in classic ticket fashion...One A ticket, one B ticket, one C ticket. Examples of what I'm looking for from each of the tickets...

A Ticket - Walk through exhibit, interactive element, diversion
B Ticket - Stuff on the level of Main Street Cinema and the street vehicles. If you wish you may either revive the Main Street Cinema or put in an additional mode of transportation in this slot. If you choose to revive the cinema you must include new elements that weren't present in the "classic" version of the attraction and update it.
C Ticket - Small scale dark ride, Audio Animatronics show, or a large scale flat ride.

Presentations must include all three of your attractions properly labeled with what ticket each addition goes with. Good luck teams. This project is due Thursday, March 2nd at 11:59 PM Eastern, 8:59 PM pacific.

Well, here's something I'm familiar with, having been to Magic Kingdom many times. I'll just lay down some of my ideas right now.

For the "A" ticket, I'd put in a Walt Disney tribute/walk-through (a la One Man's Dream) into the Town Square Theater (replacing the meet & greets). But of course, we'd need to differentiate it from the other versions of the walk-through.

For the "B" ticket, I'd update the Main Street Cinema.

And I have no idea what to do regarding the "C" ticket right now.

Perhaps the Walt Disney tribute could be about his early life? A lot of walk-throughs tend to focus on Walt's life post-Steamboat Willie, so perhaps we could do a Walt Before Mickey type thing and focus on his early life through Oswald?

I'd say update the Main Street Cinema too, though I would suggest perhaps maybe make it a production theater with vaudeville stage shows? It would be different, and certainly more time-appropriate to early 1900s America than a movie theater.

What about a Mickey Mouse Revue revival?

That would be interesting, though I'm not sure where we'd put it. Maybe re-theme the back alleyway that opens during parades to help with guest flow and put something back there?

Hey guys. First I'd like to apologize for being MIA yesterday. I ended up being out for about 14 hours yesterday, and wasn't really able to get anything up.

For this project, I've done a small bit of research to find what exactly constitutes an A, B, and C ticket. According to Yesterland, here's a list of some of them

A Tickets
.Main Street Horse Cars
.Horseless Carriage
.Omnibus
.Fire Engine
.King Arthur Carousel
.Sleeping Beauty Castle (I assume the walkthrough?)

B Tickets
.Main Street Cinema
.Motor Boat Cruise
.Swiss Family Treehouse
.Casey Junior Circus Train
.Alice in Wonderland

C Tickets
.Fantasyland Theater
.Mad Tea Party
.Autopias
.Shooting Galleries
.Peter Pan Flight
.Dumbo
.Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
.Snow White's Adventures
.Mike Fink Keel Boats
.Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
So, now that we have that jumping point, I think that there are a lot of ways to take this in. In terms of the C ticket, I think that a Fantasyland-style dark ride work work rather well, especially since it seems as though all of the Fantasyland dark rides are considered C tickets. Really the only solid idea that I have right now is for an automobile-themed dark ride. It's something that I've personally always wanted to do, and I think that it could also work extremely well as a sort of spiritual successor to Toad, which is an attraction still missed at WDW.

In terms of the A ticket, I think it would be cool to perhaps introduce a bandstand show? Super basic idea. I just think that it could be cool. In terms of the B ticket, could we perhaps reintroduce the Penny Arcade?

I also think that it's a pretty genius idea to extend Main Street into the overflow pathway. It'd expand Main Street, and allow that pathway to look a bit less temporary.

Just want to point out how weird it is how Alice was considered a B ticket and the rest were considered C tickets even though Alice has the largest scale of any of the original Fantasyland dark ride by having that second story to it.

To be fair, tickets back then were more based on capacity and popularity than actual quality.

So....

We should probably get to work on this, seeing that we only really have 3 days to complete this. We also still need a team leader. I know that Mickeyfan is the only one who hasn't done it yet, but I want to say that team leaders have reset, so if he's not comfortable taking it, basically any of us can.

So I guess then we should decide how we want to do this and by when. Should we perhaps end brainstorming by tomorrow and divvy up the project to different people?

Probably. Let's try solidifying the attractions. What does everyone think about what's been posted? Does anyone have any other ideas we haven't touched on yet?

I'm not sure about the Walt walkthrough. It seems like it's too obvious. I like updating the cinema. I'd rather do an AA show or a flat than a dark ride. Less space taken up in a spot that doesn't have a ton of space to begin with.

I must admit, I am partial to the idea of reviving The Mickey Mouse Revue. I think it would fit nice in the Town Square Theater...
I could see it. It's not my favorite idea, but it's definitely the most realistic if we do it right.

I definitely think that our centerpiece should be the Main Street expansion, though. Obviously, it wouldn't be any of the tickets, but I do think that we would benefit from putting at least one of the attractions in that area. Perhaps the bandstand that I suggested? Or some kind of something else? I'm just realizing now that there aren't a ton of ideas going around, which is fine. I just thought that someone had suggested something for the B ticket other than the cinema refurb.

On that note, I also think that it might be wise to stay away from the cinema. I know that one of the other teams (Cap?) is doing something similar. Just something to keep in mind.
