For the very few that are going to miss Tarzan Rocks when it closes later this year at AK, don't worry Tarzan WILL BE BACK!!! Here is an artical I just read on a news site:

Disney hunts singing Tarzan
From: Reuters
From correspondents in New York

August 23, 2005

DISNEY is seeking a sexy man of mystery with a rock singer's voice and a swimmer's physique to play the lead role in a new Broadway musical called "Tarzan."
"He is NOT a muscle man, as in the traditional Tarzan type," Disney said in a statement announcing auditions open to both actors and people with no theatrical experience.

The producers of the musical scheduled to open in early 2006 said the jungle man must be "charming, sexy, vulnerable, animal-like, mysterious and ... toned, like a swimmer."

Phil Collins has written the music and lyrics for the musical, adapted from the 1999 Disney animated movie "Tarzan."

"For the role of Tarzan, the production is seeking a thrilling pop/rock singer to play in his 20s," the statement said, adding there would be plenty of swinging through the jungle.

"He should have strong upper body strength and be physical, agile, fearless and very comfortable with movement and tackling aerial work," it said.
All I can do now is sit back & smile with a HUGE grin

:D :D :D :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Please don't let it be as lame as the Animal Kingdom show. Give it a story, characters that actually sing for themselves (and can sing well), and fewer dorky stunts and they might have themselves something worthwhile. I loved the movie "Tarzan," but that stage show was an outright waste of time. I hope the new show at Animal Kingdom is better thought out.

Think you'll find there are a surprisingly large number of people that enjoy Tarzan Rocks. It's a fun energy packed half hour and a refreshing change from Readers Digest versions of shows (Beauty & the Best, Little Mermaid).

Because it's different it won't appeal to the "cheeseburgers only" crowd, but I'd not call it lame.

Old news anyway. Little Mermaid is next to come to Broadway after Tarzan. Even this is old news.

BTW, Lion King is on Broadway and Beauty and the Beast is on Broadway. Little Mermaid is coming to Broadway after Tarzan. All three of those have shows at WDW, and they are quite popular.

So why are they closing Tarzan Rocks? Because it wasn't a quality show. It brought shame to the movie, turning its songs to rock and using cheap stunt gimmicks to make it interesting.

I mentioned this before but no one seemed to care: The reason they are closing Tarzan Rocks is because the show is too loud to be played out so close to E:E. Not because it was a bad show, however my opion is that it was a bad show. Whichever show will take home in the Tarzan Rocks theater will have to be not of the rock-ballad type but maybe more like little Mermaid at MGM, or they will have to enclose the theater.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter how much I may disagree with it, but I can't be bothered to start another petty slagging match.

One of the reasons the show will be closing is because of cost cutting measures. The band is live, and the cast are all equity and so cost Disney More than say, the click track of Lion King and its mainly non-equity dance troop.

I fail to see how "loud rock music" and Tarzans siting next to EE would warrant its closure - are Disney afraid that the EE line of guests will be deaf before they ride ?
I didn't enjoy Tarzan (the show) but the music is great - Broadway will be a fitting location for the show instead of just killing it (as Hunchback)

Hunchback is on Broadway in Paris and is very successful.

At the risk of being pedantic, Broadway can not be in Paris

To the best of my knowledge, and according to http://www.musicalschwartz.com/the-hunchback-stage.htm

Hunchback has only appeared on live stage in Berlin.

It's possible you may be referring to a different musical - "Notre Dame de Paris", which has been a phenomenal success in France. It also played for over a year in London, but was never really huge. I saw it and the thing was just too loud for the whole thing. Even the ballads were at full belt. There was no light and shade. Plus the music was recorded. However the dance troop were amazing.

They do indeed have the same characters, but the French show follows the book more, is a lot darker and does not have the Disneyfied happy ending. Clopin is killed during the show, Phoebus is a two timing rat, Frollo is a priest not a judge, Esmerelda is not rescued in time to save her life and Quasimodo dies at the end of a broken heart. Not exactly a bundle of laughs.

I got to see Tarzan Rocks this trip and it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, and the rest of the audience seemed to enjoy it. Closing it in for AC would be a bonus though for the AK.

Mary Poppins is actually Disney's next Broadway endevour, after Tarzan that is. Plan on seeing The Lion King move from The New Amsterdam Theatre and Poppins take up residence there next fall.

This is not a transplant of Tarzan Rocks. This will be a completely new take on the material. It will remind you of Cirque du Soleil.

The Show in New York will bear little resemblance to "Tarzan Rocks". It willl be faithful to the film script and the Rice- Burroughs book. Phil Collins is writing many new songs and it will feature a lot of acrobatics and dancing. Dont expect roller blading Monkeys and skateboards in the Broadway version. Expect to see something much more artistic. If you have seen the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King and compare them to their Florida counter parts you would know what I mean.
