Tangaroa Terrace food?

Good stuff, definitely not your standard theme park or counter service food though once you get the something like a 1/3 lb cheeseburger, it's definitely more in that realm. It's a very nice change.

Lunch and Dinner: Island Mahi Mahi Fish and Chips, Barbecue Chicken Sandwich, Angus 1/3 lb. Hawaiian Cheeseburger (pineapple, Havarti cheese, bacon, lettuce & tomato) , Angus 1/3 lb. Classic Cheeseburger, Green Papaya Slaw, sweet potato fries, Crispy Tofu Salad, Asian Chicken Salad, Kalua Pork Flatbread (BBQ pork, red onion, cilantro, mozzarella cheese), & a plain cheese flatbread pizza. Children have the option of grilled salmon, chicken nuggets, or a hamburger (all served with Jasmine rice & fruit)

I have only eaten there once, but I can definitely recommend the Mahi Mahi fish and chips. My husband had the Hawaiian burger and thought it was awesome.

I had breakfast there three weeks ago and thought it was decent.
Will return again in the future to try their dinner options at some point.

I can well imagine the place is even more appealing to dine in the evening due to the ambiance of the setting and tiki torches.
Going for breakfast, I missed that scene.

Breakfast was good by the way...nothing overly exotic, your basic offerings, but the French toast was tasty and all the offerings have a side of tropical fruit.

The best part was having the place pretty much to myself, even though it was very crowded at the Resort that week I was in town for the D23 Expo.

How is the food at the Tangaroa Terrace at the DL Hotel? Are the hamburgers any good there?

Not at all.
Had the Hawaiian cheeseburger there this past May and it was terrible. Probably the only disappointing meal I had at Disneyland.
The sweet potato fries were good, though.

I tried out the place. It's really small. It's more like a snack bar than a real restaurant. The shrimp tacos were good but really small. The kids hamburger with really tiny. I guess the salads are better.

Is this place comparable to Kona Café at the Poly WDW? I was looking at it for breakfast and was hopping for Tonga Toast. What are your thoughts on the best breakfast in one of the resorts that is a non-character buffet.

In terms of the food, it's much closer to Captain Cook's than Kona Cafe.
No Tonga toast, but they do have a french toast for breakfast with caramel and bananas topping it.

Steakhouse 55 has the best breakfast at the Disneyland Hotel, it's a few steps away from Tangaroa Terrace.

Tangaroa Terrace is a semi-self serve snack bar, not a real restaurant. You go in, order your food from a very limited menu shown on touch screens, pick up your own drinks on a tray, then pay at a cashier and find your own table. Every time I've been the CM's there have been clustered around the order window all gabbing with each other ignoring everyone, even though the service requirements of this setup are very minimal they still have found a way to ignore the customers.

You wipe down, set up, and service your own table. The food is mediocre but not terrible. The view is the best part. The lazy gossiping CM's are the worst part.

Don't go in expecting actual service or hospitality and you should be okay if you just need a quick cheeseburger and a Coke.

No comparison....Tangaroa is nothing like WDWs Kona Cafe in any way, except in the Polynesian themed decor.
Kona is tops when it comes to food, service, and especially the coffee.
:hungry:

While I enjoyed my meal at DLs Tangaroa that one morning, i cannot put it in the same class as my favorite breakfast spot at WDW's Polynesian Resort.
As TP remarked above, it's the view that is the best feature of Tangaroa Terrance.
It's worth experiencing if just for that one quiet morning or evening.
