Trip Report Tales From the Two Goofs Vault

Greetings again my friends. During my large amount of available free time, I have been working to digitally backup some of our old photos, as well as track down and backup any digital files as well. So far I have come across 3 Disney trips that I haven’t shared on these boards before. One from March 2019, one from September 2016, and another from June 2015. I will be doing these TRs from newest to oldest. Please note that I have no notes on our activities, so the pictures will likely not be in perfect order. I will try and provide commentary on things I do remember. So let’s get started!

Trip 1.

When: March 8-11, 2019

Who: Myself and A as always, plus our closest friends C and M.
CEB0ECA0-23DE-4218-85D4-43C6422C5055.jpeg

Where: POFQ for just one night, and Coronado Springs(more on why we did a split stay on such a short trip later).

Why: A top secret mission to photograph and celebrate C and M’s engagement.

A little background on how this trip happened.

C is one of A’s oldest and closest friends, he is the closest thing she has to a brother, and she does refer to him as her brother. He had been dating M for about a year at this point, and we all knew she was perfect for him. He’d decided to pop the question on their spring break trip to Disney. For months he had been asking A and I to come down with them to take pictures of the big event, and to celebrate with them(or console him if she said no!). It didn’t look like we would both be able to make the trip though. I finally agreed to at least get A a plane ticket and she was going to go alone for just the weekend and return.

Well as fate would have it, right at the 60 day mark I was finally able to secure the 4 days off needed to take the trip. Unfortunately there was extremely limited availability at the resorts. The only resort with full availability for the weekend was grand Floridian, which was at a non discount rate. We finally found 2 nights at Coronado, and one night at French quarter. We also purchased APs because we had already planned on being at WDW for several day’s in the summer, so it ended up being less to get the AP rather than buying separate tickets for each trip. I was also able to get the AP spring discount applied to our reservations.

With all of that business out of the way, we were able to make FP reservations right at 60 days! C wanted it to be a surprise for M that we were going to be there. We went along with this plan, but boy was it hard not to spill the beans at our super bowl party that year!

Day 0/Night1:

While I was able to get Friday-Monday off, A had no such luck, and had to work a half day Friday. This meant taking a later flight than normal. We had a 7:15 flight out of Dallas Love Field. Our plan was to be at the airport around 5:30. 5:30 on a Friday driving through downtown Dallas, what could possibly go wrong?! Fortunately while traffic was pretty heavy, and my phone told me to take the wrong exit one time, we still made it to the airport on time.

89563D8A-3670-4EF4-B4B7-B396BB8AB0C1.jpeg

Already a little tired before takeoff!

Our flight down went smoothly and a few hours later we landed in Orlando. Because of the time change, by the time we got down to DME it was approaching 11 pm. We were both more than ready to get to our room and get a few hours of sleep. Our bus only had a few parties on it. We stopped at riverside first, then French Quarter. Our room had been ready since lunch time of that day, so we went straight to our room. It was well after midnight when we made it to our room.

Apparently we knew that @Nunu would like some room photos at the time!😜

Another boring redesigned room.

The beads were a nice touch!

We finally got showered and in bed just before 1 am.

Having done a few attractions at DHS the night before, we didn’t feel the need to get up too quickly. We still somehow managed to make it to the park just after 9 that morning. I guess the trick is to not be in a hurry to get there. We picked up right where we left off the night before.

We enjoyed muppetvision before catching an early showing of the Frozen show. Sweet sweet A/C!

We had early dinner plans that evening, so we had lunch a little early as well. We headed out of the park to catch a boat over to beach club. We always like to have at least one lunch at beaches and cream! We ended up just splitting a hamburger and fries this time, since neither one of us were super hungry. We also shared a sundae!

As you can see from the mirror, we didn’t have Herlina this time. Also notice my right hand is moving in for the sneak attack!

We had planned on going back to DHS after lunch to catch the Indiana jones and beauty and the beast shows. We decided it was just too darn hot to sit watching those outdoor shows, and instead headed into Epcot. We didn’t spend much time earlier in the week checking out the seas pavillion. It seemed like a nice indoor activity for us this day.

A wanted to go meet Baymax. I was perfectly content to wait in the indoor queue.

We considered meeting Joy and Sadness next, but we were both pretty tired. We agreed a midday break was needed. We took a bus back to WL and spent a little while resting and hanging out by the pool.

Coming up: Evening time at DHS.

We spent most of the afternoon hanging out at WL. We headed back to DHS to use our last two FPs for the day. First up was toy story mania. Remember when that was the hard to get FP at DHS? We also did star tours.

Dinner was at Hollywood and Vine. They had just changed the dinners here to a seasonal character meal, so all the characters were in Halloween costumes.

Hollywood and Vine seems to get a lot of flack about its food. We’ve dined here a few times and found no issues with the food. It’s not the best buffet on property by any means but there was plenty on the buffet that I liked, and their desserts are better than most buffets. Maybe it used to be super bad many years ago? Maybe I’m just easy to please. Whatever.

After dinner it was time to go get seated for fantasmic. We caught the first of two showings that evening.

It was a fine showing. The park was still open for a little while, so we swam through the crowd back toward sunset Blvd. We decided to check out Star Wars launch bay, another new addition this year.

Upon entering the launch bay we encountered some Jawas. We bartered some paper scraps for a few paper clips! It was fun interacting with theses guys!

There were no lines for Kylo Ren or Chewbacca. We decided on Kylo first. This is one of the absolute creepiest character meets they’ve ever done. His voice and the way he moved was spot on, and super creepy! A had never seen the force awakens either, so she had no clue what was going on!

We left launch bay and headed for the exit. We made it back to our room pretty quick. There was a MNSSHP that night at magic kingdom. Our room had a nice view of the fireworks thanks to all the construction!

We had done everything we wanted at the parks, so we saw no need to wake up early this day. We slept in a bit before taking the boat to the contemporary to get on the monorail. We stopped at the poly for a late breakfast at captain cooks. We’d been craving some tonga toast. We were not disappointed!

We decided to go play some mini golf at fantasia gardens next. We took the monorail to Epcot and just walked from there. While it was nice to get some walking in, there was a giant mess at the Epcot entrance, and we got stuck there for quite a while. We were melting! We still managed to have a good time once we finally arrived.

After our game we were feeling really hot and tired. We made our way back to WL to get some rest. I spent a good part of the early afternoon hours just relaxing and watching some college football while A took a nap. We eventually got dressed and took a boat over to MK.

We had a FP for splash mountain so we headed there first. There were some dark clouds rolling in, but we managed to get our ride in before it started storming.
C10EC16C-15EB-404A-AD9A-FF035A3A816D.jpeg

After we exited splash it started raining. This put a kink in our plans to ride seven dwarfs mine train and jungle cruise, since they were both shut down for weather. Not wanting to wait around in the rain, we decided to just leave the park and head to the Polynesian to wait for dinner. This meant our park time for the trip was over. While it wasn’t the greatest way to end our park time, we still had a great time!

We waited out the rain in the poly lobby before heading upstairs to check in for our dinner at Ohana. Many many shrimp were consumed. Bread pudding was destroyed. A great meal as expected. We also were lucky enough to still be in the restaurant when wishes started.

That would bring our trip to an end pretty much. We got up early the next morning and started the long drive home. We made the return trip in one day, something we will never do again. Talk about a lame birthday! We said our goodbyes to the world, not knowing when we would return again.

So much fun! Can't wait for you to start the next one.

But, now we know where your id photo comes from! 🤣
(Not sure what you call the pics we use on here with our user names).
🤣🤣🤣 Taking that picture with Chewbacca is one of my favorite memories. That’s why I made it my profile picture.😉 As for the name, I guess we’ll just have to meet in person some day so you can find out. I think @Nunu may know, but she’ll never tell! There may be subtle clues spread throughout my various reports too.

Trip # 3

When:
June 13-21, 2015

Where: Two nights at a hotel near downtown Disney. Followed by a stay at the Wilderness Lodge.

Who: Two young goofs. Ok maybe not quite this young. But close!
E95C5FDD-4E5B-4E68-8961-9ECE399DD1CA.jpeg

Why: Super Bowl Sunday 2015. Loco_driver and his young wife A are casually watching television when a commercial for WDW comes on. A mentions that she’s never been, but always wanted to go. Loco has been before, but it’s been nearly a decade at this point. He has fond memories of the place, and decides it would be nice to make new ones with his lovely wife. A plan is hatched. By the end of the day the trip is booked, as are the dining reservations thanks to the advice of a friend of ours who frequently visits. By the time the trip arrives we have added in a day at universal for Harry Potter at the beginning of the trip. We have studied the new my magic+ system tirelessly. We’ve learned the ins and outs of the system, and feel we are ready for our first trip together at this “new” WDW.

Travel Day.

We began our two day road trip this day. We lived in a small town on the Texas-Louisiana border at the time. We jumped on interstate 20 and began our trip eastward through northern Louisiana. We stopped for breakfast halfway across the state, and made our first big bathroom stop at the Mississippi River.
7DDBF8F8-22DC-4205-90D4-E00269C3B265.jpeg

This was the first time A had ever been east off the Mississippi. Her family vacations as a child we all out west

After our quick pit stop it was time to settle in for the long slow drive through rural Mississippi. Traffic was super heavy because there were tons of people traveling to the gulf coast(you could tell due to the beach chairs, cooler, and umbrellas they were all hauling), so it took us over five hours to get through Mississippi.

We finally crossed into Alabama around lunch time. After a quick bite to eat we started on the worst part of any trip fo Florida. Getting through or around Mobile, AL. Google Maps decided the tunnel was a no go this day, and took us north over the Africatown bridge. A gigantic bridge over the bay that is not great for people who are afraid of heights. Like A.
D7E85BA8-3707-4680-A7C5-EE28594A491A.jpeg

We made it over just fine, and found yet another traffic jam awaiting us on I-10.
4939B784-5D94-4A0D-8108-CFD6F87DB885.jpeg

Eventually we made it past all of the beach vacationers, and it was smooth sailing near the Florida state line, where we had to stop for orange juice and a potty break! A was exited to be in the sunshine state, but I warned her that we had a long ways to go.

We continued our trek on interstate 10 across the Florida panhandle. Finally we stopped for the night in Tallahassee. We had a hotel just down from the state capital.

We were up bright and early, ready to make it down to Orlando. Our travel went smoothly this day, and soon we were here!

We were staying at the hotel formerly known as best western on hotel plaza. It was a perfectly fine hotel, and a great bargain for the rate we had! Our room wasn’t ready yet when we arrived. We parked the car and took a walk over to downtown Disney. It was nice to be out of the car and inside the bubble.

We spent a little time looking around some of the shops.

We took a boat over to POR and had lunch at the food court there, and walked around the grounds for a while. A was super impressed with the beauty of the place, and how clean everything was. We took the boat back to downtown Disney and walked back to our hotel. Our room was ready, so we took our luggage up. We headed back over to downtown Disney after a wile. We decided to head to the bus stop and just hop on a bus that shows up. The first bus to arrive was for AKL. We spent a while checking out this beautiful resort.

A was anxious to see another resort. We ended up taking a bus back to downtown and hopping on a boardwalk bus, which was great since we were able to walk all around crescent lake. It was a beautiful evening and we had a nice time walking along the boardwalk.

Eventually we headed back to our room. We had a big day ahead of us tomorrow.

Ohh a mystery, love it! And what fun it would be to be able to meet up!
Yes, I do! :joyfull:
And don't you worry my friend, my lips are sealed. 😉
Ok @Nunu, what will it take for you to spill the beans?!
Mine was easy. However long ago I created my user thing on here, I couldn't think of anything cool and obviously love the mouse and picked that. The problem is that it is a little lame and I didn't realize I would someday end up posting TR's and interacting with other magicians or I would have come up with something cooler or at least more meaningful!
I lurked for a long time!
