Trip Report Tales From the Two Goofs Vault

Greetings again my friends. During my large amount of available free time, I have been working to digitally backup some of our old photos, as well as track down and backup any digital files as well. So far I have come across 3 Disney trips that I haven’t shared on these boards before. One from March 2019, one from September 2016, and another from June 2015. I will be doing these TRs from newest to oldest. Please note that I have no notes on our activities, so the pictures will likely not be in perfect order. I will try and provide commentary on things I do remember. So let’s get started!

Trip 1.

When: March 8-11, 2019

Who: Myself and A as always, plus our closest friends C and M.
CEB0ECA0-23DE-4218-85D4-43C6422C5055.jpeg

Where: POFQ for just one night, and Coronado Springs(more on why we did a split stay on such a short trip later).

Why: A top secret mission to photograph and celebrate C and M’s engagement.

A little background on how this trip happened.

C is one of A’s oldest and closest friends, he is the closest thing she has to a brother, and she does refer to him as her brother. He had been dating M for about a year at this point, and we all knew she was perfect for him. He’d decided to pop the question on their spring break trip to Disney. For months he had been asking A and I to come down with them to take pictures of the big event, and to celebrate with them(or console him if she said no!). It didn’t look like we would both be able to make the trip though. I finally agreed to at least get A a plane ticket and she was going to go alone for just the weekend and return.

Well as fate would have it, right at the 60 day mark I was finally able to secure the 4 days off needed to take the trip. Unfortunately there was extremely limited availability at the resorts. The only resort with full availability for the weekend was grand Floridian, which was at a non discount rate. We finally found 2 nights at Coronado, and one night at French quarter. We also purchased APs because we had already planned on being at WDW for several day’s in the summer, so it ended up being less to get the AP rather than buying separate tickets for each trip. I was also able to get the AP spring discount applied to our reservations.

With all of that business out of the way, we were able to make FP reservations right at 60 days! C wanted it to be a surprise for M that we were going to be there. We went along with this plan, but boy was it hard not to spill the beans at our super bowl party that year!

Day 0/Night1:

While I was able to get Friday-Monday off, A had no such luck, and had to work a half day Friday. This meant taking a later flight than normal. We had a 7:15 flight out of Dallas Love Field. Our plan was to be at the airport around 5:30. 5:30 on a Friday driving through downtown Dallas, what could possibly go wrong?! Fortunately while traffic was pretty heavy, and my phone told me to take the wrong exit one time, we still made it to the airport on time.

89563D8A-3670-4EF4-B4B7-B396BB8AB0C1.jpeg

Already a little tired before takeoff!

Our flight down went smoothly and a few hours later we landed in Orlando. Because of the time change, by the time we got down to DME it was approaching 11 pm. We were both more than ready to get to our room and get a few hours of sleep. Our bus only had a few parties on it. We stopped at riverside first, then French Quarter. Our room had been ready since lunch time of that day, so we went straight to our room. It was well after midnight when we made it to our room.

Apparently we knew that @Nunu would like some room photos at the time!😜

Another boring redesigned room.

The beads were a nice touch!

We finally got showered and in bed just before 1 am.

Tuesday June 16, continued.

After Beauty and the Beast it was time for A to finally get to experience my favorite attraction, Tower of Terror.

We didn’t have a super exciting drop sequence. A definitely enjoyed, but seemed like maybe she expected more. ToT would have a chance at redemption later that day.

We headed over towards Star Tours next stopping for plenty of pics along the way.

They seemed obsessed with keeping giant ugly stages up to block the view of the Chinese theater.

We made it over to star tours for our ride. Muppets was up next.

After muppets it was nearing time for dinner. We had dinner at Hollywood & Vine. There were no characters this time. The food was pretty good. We did the fantasmic dining package. Shortly after supper we made our way towards sunset to get ready for the show.

Dining package seats are in a nice section right in the middle of the amphitheater.

Coming up: More DHS.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it if you ever get the chance to see it! It’s become kinda trendy for fans to 💩 on the WDW version, but I still think it’s worth seeing at least once!

We tried on a trip years ago, and it was " broken" and never came that night. Havent made it back for the show on any other trip yet. Something still on the must do list.

This is one of my favorite moments with A at WDW. I just sat back and watched her taking in the show, and I knew that she was having one of those moments that sucks you in and makes you fall in love with this place. She’s been hooked ever since!

The park was open late that night, so we headed over to RnR for a ride. I wont post that pic because its quite embarrassing. My shorts went flying up my legs on the launch, revealing my pasty white thighs. I’ll save your eyes from that image! We finished the night on ToT. This time we had an awesome ride, and A decided this was her favorite attraction thus far!

We did a few more rounds on tower before calling it a night.

We had a long wait for a bus, but did eventually make it back to the lodge. We grabbed some drinks from roaring fork before heading to our room for the night. I love this little bridge over the lobby water feature. I have made it a tradition ever since this trip to cross this bridge every time i visit WL.

Wednesday June 17, 2015.

We were up bright and early for our day at Magic Kingdom. We got lucky and arrived at the boat dock just as a boat was approaching. We arrived as the welcome show was ending, and were quickly standing on Main Street.

Most of the crowd headed for fantasyland to RD mine train. We had FPs scheduled for that attraction, so we took a right at the hub and started our day in tomorrowland instead. Our first choice was Space Mountain.

Next up was Buzz. This is the first of countless times A has destroyed my score on this ride. I have one victory to my name against her, and I’m pretty sure that only happened thanks to a faulty gun.

We finished off TL with a few laps on the peoplemover before making our way over to Frontierland for our first FP.

Weeeeeeee! I’ll miss the original theme. I understand the change, and I’m ok with it, but i’ll still miss it. Here’s hoping they do the retheme properly, and not cheap out on us!

FP number two was for the wildest ride in the wilderness!
8E8B558C-1E91-4748-AB43-79EA17B95ABB.jpeg

The heat was really kicking in by this point. We cooled off inside the country bear jamboree. I remember the sound being really off this trip. It was really quiet and muddled, and really poorly affected the show. I’m so glad the fixed it later! We grabbed lunch at Pecos Bills before heading over to the Tiki Room, but not before grabbing some dole whips. I had the regular cup, while A had the float. See @Darstarr, I do sorta like dole whips. Sometimes.

After listening to the birds sing it was time for our third FP, seven dwarfs mine train. A new attraction for me as well. I think the ride is fine. It looks great, and i love the kinetic energy it provides for that area. As someone who is very tall, I am not a fan of the ride vehicles at all!

After our ride on mine train we caught a showing of mickeys philharmagic and stopped at the FP kiosk to grab another FP, this time for Buzz Lighteyear. We had some time before our window opened, so we went back to Tomorrowland to take a spin on carousel of progress. Buzz was meeting nearby with a very short line. We got lucky and were the last visitors for this set.

After another round on buzz lightyear we headeed to the hub. It was nearing parade time.

We ended up getting a spot in Liberty Square instead.

I was happy to see the new-to-me daytime parade. I hadn’t visited since august of 2006 before this trip. I vaguely recall a parade involving snow globes. This parade is much better!

When the parade ended we visited the friendly spirits of the haunted mansion before going back to the resort for a little rest. A took a nap while I opted to head to the pool area.

A would eventually join me in the pool, and we spent a few hours relaxing before getting ready for dinner. We got dressed and took the boat over to the contemporary, and then the monorail over to the poly. It was time to check in for our Ohana reservation. We grabbed some lapu lapus from the bar to kill some time.

After a fairly lengthy wait we were finally seated. Just like any trip to Ohana, we ate way too much food, and had absolutely no shame about it! Just look at the carnage left on A’s plate. She had too much shrimp for my taste, I mostly stick to the chicken and steak, and i cant get enough of the noodles here!

We had a fantastic time at Ohana. The food was great and we had really good service this time. The singer even serenaded A, and gave us both leis. We’ve been back many times since and have always had good food, although the service can be a bit hit or miss. After dinner we waddled back over to the monorail to finish the night off in Magic Kingdom.

There was no wait for Dumbo, so we went there next. Night time is the ideal time for a flight on Dumbo!

Real life update.

2020 strikes again. I got a call last night from the owner of the cabin we’re supposed to stay at in a few weeks. The septic line from the cabin collapsed, causing a massive mess in the cabin. He thinks he’ll likely have to replace the septic tank as well before he can allow guests. Hes not sure the work can be completed before our stay. So now I’ve joined @Tuvalu in LIMBOLAND. Obviously the owner has offered a full refund if we can’t come, or if I find another place. I guess I’ll spend the day trying to salvage our little trip.

Bummer man. I hope you can get something lined up. At least he isn't being a jerk about refunding money though.

He was very apologetic about the situation. Luckily we’re in the full refund window still anyways(a major reason I selected this spot), so all is well. He encouraged me to look at other places because he was so worried about not being able to get anyone to do the job with the holiday weekend coming up. He is also offering us a 50 percent discount on any future bookings, which is really nice! I think we’ve found a new spot in a different part of the state.

Real life update again.

Well we got lucky today! I found a great little guest house on a farm near Cañon city, CO. This is a different part of the state than our original plan, but a beautiful one nonetheless. The owner had a cancellation this morning and we were able to swoop in and take it. There are lots of trails and open spaces for pickle to explore. It’s also a shorter drive, and we ended up saving some money, so it really worked out well for us!

Sorry for the bunch of "likes", but I thought all your TR's were over! Oh no! It was a nice surprise to read the last two and relive some Disney memories:)
Hope you guys have a nice vacation in Colorado! If you like woodsy areas with lots of parks, trails, and lakes, you should try where we live in N. Minnesota. It is Lake Country and forestry country. There are no factories to pollute the land, and Lumber is the only industry in the area. We are close to the origin of the Mississippi River where you can walk across it on some rocks:)
I guess I sound like a commercial, but it is a great place, but pretty far from Texas! Food for thought if you love the unspoiled outdoors.

No worries friend! I still have a little more to go on this last report! I would love to visit Minnesota some day. It’s one of the few states I have yet to visit, but it certainly looks beautiful up there. You’re right that it’s far from Texas, but that’s never stopped us before! It’s hard to imagine being able to walk across the Mississippi on some rocks!

If you like woods, hills, and hiking, the North Shore past Duluth is fantastic, wild, big hills good for hiking and snow skiing, quaint towns and stores, and lots and lots of hiking trails. The beautiful Lake Superior is just a plus. Hope you do get to visit one day.

After meeting goofy and Donald we took a ride on little mermaid.

There was no wait to meet Ariel. A really wanted to do it, but didn’t want to go alone. I really had no interest in meeting any “face” characters because I’m already awkward enough on my own. I am a good husband however, so i agreed to go with her. It was just as uncomfortable as i imagined it would be. Ariel spent a lot of time talking to me, making me feel even more awkward. A insists to this day she was flirting with me. I didn’t care at all, i just wanted to take my picture and leave! 🤣
