Taking trips alone

I am considering taking a trip next month over Thanksgiving and it would be alone. I've done a half day alone at Epcot, but I've never done a whole trip by myself! I would be flying into MCO and doing the whole shebang by my lonesome. I'm worried about being alone, especially during such a busy time, but my APs expire December 14th and I HAVE to see Captain EO and Figment one more time before they're gone! I'm worried I'll get lost/bored/a million other things. Any women done this alone before? Am I working myself up over nothing?

It depends on how comfortable you are when you're alone. Try eating in a packed, busy restaurant (not a quiet, partially-filled one) at home and see how you feel. Make it a short trip, so your first solo outing won't be too long if you end up not enjoying it. :)

Do a trip report! That will take up time alone in the room and will help others who have the same question later!!

I like the time I spend alone in the parks, but I also like the time I spend with others. :)

I'd go. :)

I too am taking a solo trip (my first) and I too am nervous like you are. I am going Dec 8-11. My biggest worry is missing my family and as I am getting ready to hop on Splash... looking for my DD6 since it is her favorite ride. But to combat this, I plan on Skyping with my famiy every morning and I have a plan of what I a going to go each day. I am convinced that I will have a great time (how can I not, being in Disneyworld!) and I am sure you will too. Can't wait to hear about your trip!!!!

When in Orlando for business I drop by the parks after work. It's not the same as when I'm in full vacation mode with my family but it is nice to be able to go where I want and at my own pace. I usually hang out at World Showcase and on the boardwalk. I have gotten into the ESPN Club many times or I'm eat QS or go over to sunshine seasons. I can also shop in Mousegear and get Christmas presents for the family without them knowing.

I leave Tuesday for my 5th annual trip to WDW for the F&WF. I love going solo! Yes I miss my family but Mama needs some time for herself too. I have no problem doing things, like eating out, alone. It all depends on how comfortable you are in your own skin. I have always been treated great by all cast members and even other guests when they learn I am solo. In fact most say they wish they could do that. During my wait times I read a book on my phone(I have a NOOK that syncs with my phone) so I am never bored. It is great being able to do whatever you want to do and not have the kids pulling you in all directions. Go and enjoy your "me time".

Well, I guess I'll try booking a room today! When I did the day by myself at Epcot, it wasn't bad at all. In fact, CMs kept moving me to the best seats on the ride - maybe they felt bad for me? My mom is freaking out that I'll be by myself! She thinks there will people scouting the crowds to kidnap women who are alone. She doesn't seem to be able to grasp that I'm 25, have lived in Alaska for four years alone, and do everything alone for the six months per year when my husband is away at work. Oh well. I'll update with a PTR if I'm able to book!

I honestly have never been any where that I feel more safe. I don't even go out alone (or with my son) after dark in my home town, but at Disney him and I ditched DH one night and went in our own. At first I was worried about our safety, but I felt completely comfortable. I think you will have a great time and be perfectly safe!

Going to Disney solo is awesome. I was apprehensive the first time in 9/2012, but I'm so glad I did it and have gone alone two more times since. You should not feel weird or out of place. Everyone is so immersed in their own vacations that they are not paying any attention to you. Cast Members seem to be the only ones who really notice and some even go out of their way to treat you extra special. I am also female and very paranoid about my safety, which is something I don't have concerns about at Disney. Enjoy your vacation!

I noticed this when I did a half day alone at Epcot! The CMs put me in the best seat on every ride!

It has been quite a while since I did a solo trip and I am a male, so I'm not sure my information will help....but, I did a couple solo trips in the late 90s. I loved them! I didn't do very many rides, mainly just touring and people watching and taking pictures. Lots of chatting with CMs who either looked bored or exceptionally friendly, visits to most of the pubs and clubs, meals were always quite leisurely (unless they needed to turn over the table). It was a blast. A totally different experience than with a family, but still very rewarding.

Also, going alone is a great way to really cut down on time waiting in lines. Some rides have designated single rider lines, and CMs at other rides will often ask for solo guests to fill up a car when there is one open spot. When you near the front of any line, keep your eyes on whichever cast member is asking "how many in your party." As soon as they ask for anyone riding alone, raise your hand and you'll be asked to jump the rest of the line, saving anywhere from 1-10 minutes. (I also sometimes just hold up my index finger a little as I near the front of a line, so that they know I'm solo and they can just come right to me when they need a solo rider.)

As everyone else says, going alone is awesome. Take in the atmosphere, go at your own pace, talk to cast members, lay by the pool, try a restaurant you've always wanted to go to...just have fun!

Still no official word on Imagination/EO closing, right? Thought it was only rumor at this point (not that it's a bad idea to see them while you can!)http://www.illuminatingepcot.com/epcot-news/breaking-imagination-pavilion-to-close/

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I mean, yes, your overall safety is most important but there are some general common sense tips for travelling alone that can be applied to any trip really. (i.e. Don't dress like a tourist, don't flash large sums of money, stay in well-lit areas at night, etc.) It's fairly easy to look them up using whatever your preferred search engine site is. But anyway, always remember you have the right to say no or even ignore any person you are not uncomfortable interacting with. If it looks dangerous, then odds are, it's most definitely! Like @Philasusan says, most people are so immersed with their own plans they won't care too much about what you're doing. The CMs do but in a good way! Take your time, do what you want, eat what you want, photograph, video record or do diary entries as a precursor to a trip report to keep yourself entertained. Just...don't be rude about it and treat your fellow park guests with dignity and respect.

AH...I would do WDW alone but I don't know how I could explain to CiCi and Jayce why their nana is WDW and they are not...even though I always have the grandkids and a daughter or two or a friend with me, I do the parks alone alot...and I dine alone alot...hit the spa and pools alone too...I love being by myself at WDW and I like being with my travel party...I have found WDW to be a very comfortable place doing things solo!

Plus if you are coming over Thanksgiving we will be there that week at WL/DOLPHIN so you can join us for a meal or a cocktail or a ride or an attraction if you are so inclined!
