Taking a First timer

I am going to Disneyland for the second time in December. This time I am going with my boyfriend who has never been to a Disney Park. I know to take him on the classics, Jungle Cruise, Pirate, Haunted Massion, Small World, Splash, Indy, Big Thunder, and the likes, but is there things he has to see since this will be, more then likely, his only trip to Disneyland? We are eating at Blue Bayuo for my sisters birthday, so we have that covered.

Any help would be great. Eric, my boyfriend, is not a big disney fan but loves amusement parks so he should enjoy himself and he is a big kid at heart so I do not see any major issues, I hope.

Are you doing DCA also? Personally I'm not a big fan of DCA, however I think it has more appeal for the "amusement park" fan (due to rides like Maliboomer and California Screamin').

One thing that has really worked for me anytime I've taken someone who is not all that into Disney or Disney theme parks, is if I share some history and behind the scenes info on the place while we're there.

Yes we are doing DCA. We will be there for 7 days. One day is in San Diego for the Zoo. I like DCA when I went in 2005. I thought it was fun. Soaring kind of scares him.

I just got back from a trip to San Diego. You will love it! There are a couple of really good restaurants I recommend (if you have time). One is called "Extraordinary Desserts" and the other is called "El Agave". If you like authentic Mexican food, you have to try that one! There's also a classic coaster in San Diego called the Giant Dipper. It was built in the 20s and is located at Mission Beach.

Getting back to DL though, another must see is Space Mt, but I'm sure you already thought of that. :animwink:

Ya know, everyone talks about the San Diego Zoo, but I've got to admit, while it's cool, the Wild Animal Park (a sister park to the SD Zoo) is really a once in a life time deal! Make SURE you go on the monorail ride if you get a chance! The zoo is great, but it's a zoo. The Wild Animal Park is very different and a GREAT experience!

Another fun thing to do is to take a 1 1/2 hour Hornblower cruise of San Diego Bay. SD is such a beautiful place.

I agree. I lived in San Diego (Vista to be exact) for a short while and I'll take Wild Animal Park ANY DAY over SD Zoo. Nothing wrong with the zoo, but Wild Animal Park takes the cake.

I went to Disneyland last year with my sister and I would say definitely Indiana Jones the temple of the eye. Great ride.. I thought it was awesome because of the special effects and the AA of Indiana Jones, and the rolling stone at the end is incredible. Highly recommend it.:sohappy:

You know, there's actually an interesting little inside story about that monorail. It is called the Wgasa monorail, and Wgasa is just a made up name. The designers were told to come up with an African-sounding name for it, and they struggled to come up with something. Finally, one of them, out of frustration, said, "Who gives a s..t anyway?" and someone suggested they take the first letters of each of the words in that phrase...and that became the name!

Get him a My First Visit pin from City Hall. And also get a birthday pin for your sister. :)

Ooh! I'm going for the first time in Sept (as you know Nic) and this is one of the things that gets me most excited. I've never been able to get a First Time button at DW, so this will be exciting for me! :D

Wow! Thanks for the tid-bit! Unforunately, they re-routed it through the African area, rather than off that central hub, and they also now charge for it ($10/person I think) if you don't have a zoo membership (it's free with membership). I actually always wondered where the name came from. It's been re-named now-a-days though. It's now called "Journey into Africa" and it leaves from Simba station. :drevil:
