T-Rex

So my now 6 year old daughter is obsessed with dinosaurs. T-Rex was never on the table for any planned ADRs but I am now considering as an option. Is it worth it to use an ADR or should we just visit the gift shop? I should tell you I've been to a Rainforest Cafe and was not impressed.

It's the same type of place (as the previous poster mentioned it is owned by Landry Restaurants as well), but if your child is into dinos then you should give it a try. My son used to be all about dinosaurs and we took him one trip. It was all he could talk about for the rest of the day.

I should say I have been to a Rainforest in Nashville. Chain restaurants are always so iffy from city to city. There is a chance she will get freaked out too.

Our daughter loves everything about dinosaurs too and T-Rex was high-priority on our ADR list when we went last year. She had a blast walking around the restaurant naming the different species of dinosaurs in which many were animatronic. Also, I thought the menu had a lot more variety than Rainforest Café and we actually ordered a meal as opposed to just appetizers.

Ok having been to both, within the same trip, just a month ago, here is where i stand between these two:

.....Rainforest cafe is down here (pretend it is much longer too)

T-Rex theme and abundance to look at is 10000x better than Rainforest Cafe. The meteor shower (frequntly occuring) is 100000x better than the basic thunderstorm Rainforest cafe has. The photo ops are 100000x more abundant and better looking.

I personally will never go to Rainforest cafe again, if it don't have to that is..

We were sat in the ice cave at T-Rex, talk about the best seat in the house, the colors where amazing.

My little sister-in-law @ T-Rex:

Little bit of the meteor shower colors changing - better in person:

Went to the T-Rex cafe this past weekend as our daughter doesn't like thunder and the Rainforest cafe wasn't her favorite place to eat.

Enjoyed the meteor shower much more as we were sat next to the fire pit. The ice cave was really cool during the regular shows and think it is a great looking centerpiece for the entire restaurant.

I definitely prefer the t-rex to rainforest. Never ate dinner there just lunch and both times we just did walk up with minimal wait. It was about 2-3pm though so well after the lunch rush and before the dinner. As noted cost and quality of food is about the same as rainforest but the show is much better.

We enjoyed T-Rex. We have a couple of RFCs here in the Houston/Galveston area, so we don't even bother with those at WDW. Still, T-Rex impressed me a lot more than RFC. I personally feel the décor/ambience is stepped up more at T-Rex. I also liked the food better and found their service to be at a higher level than our RFC experience.

Do it for the kid. I only had about a 20-30 min wait at high season. The nachos are the best in Disney.

After about a half hour, I had enough of the noise. After an hour, I had to get the hell out of there. Dinosaur mating calls on a loop. Worse than It's a Small World.

T-Rex is a good choice, and IMO a much better choice than Rainforest Cafe. My DW, DD (14), DS (11) and myself thought the food was pretty good :hungry: and have gone back a few times. One word of warning watch out for their special effects of exploding aquariums. ;)

The Rainforest Cafe in Galveston actually has a dark boat ride. It was included in our Pleasure Pier passes this summer. The TRex in KC is ok food wise but the animated dinosaurs make is a must every time we are up there.

Rainforest is actually more fun than Trex. I think the gift shop will be just fine.

Every trip we go on, we start the first night by having dinner at T-Rex. What we learned the first time is that you can walk right into the restaurant without speaking to anyone and take a seat at the bar for instant dining service. And it's not a bar, like at a nightclub, with drunk adults, it's usually families eating just like us. No reservation, no stress, and there are always stools. My daughter is also 6 and she loves it because the bar is right in the middle of the restaurant so when you are sitting on your stool you can look around and see all of the different areas and dino's. Also, you have prime viewing of the awesome saltwater reef tank behind the bar. And another plus is that the service is always lightning fast because there are constantly bartenders walking past you asking you if you need anything else, etc. No worries about a server never showing up again after you get your food or waiting 15 minutes to pay your check. We are in and out in probably half the time as parties sitting at tables. Honestly, we never even attempt to make reservations there because we enjoy sitting at the bar so much.
