At various times throughout the day, Merlin will appear and put on a show, which includes amazingly finding a youth who is able to pull the sword upwards within the stone (never actually out of the stone completely). Funny, it only works when Merlin is around. I wonder if there is a connection.

Oh, I have never been picked by Merlin to participate. Kids only, I'm afraid.

There's a little door near Snow White's Scary Adveture on the second floor that a person stands in during Merlin's little show. That person is the one that "allows" the sword to come out of the stone. Next time you're there, check it out, the door will be cracked only when Merlin is out. The rest of the day it's shut.

Well that's your personal decision. But part of our legacy is the we all (regular CMs, managers, imagineers, etc.) pay attention to details. That's one of the things that make us "Disney".

They get to be the "temporary ruler of the day." Basically the ruler until the next show. And since they are only the temporary ruler of the day they only have to pull the sword half way out of the stone.

Ya it was Aladdin and the lamp. It always bother because Aladdin and Genie has no business crowning a ruler for the day on Main Street in terms of theming, but I am nutso.

I've only experienced Merlin and the Sword & the Stone event once. Quite a few kids tried to pull it out before a little boy finally did.

And I remember that Full House episode, too.
Movie tie ins.

Well I saw it quite awhile ago, but I'm going to say it was around 3pm. Things may have changed, of course.

When I've been there, they pick an adult first. The adult tries to pull it out, but can't. Then the kid comes up and miraculously does what the adult couldn't. I think it's cool to see the looks on their faces when they do it. :) I'd hate to see the rumors of Disney cutting this out come true. Unfortunately, I never got selected to pull it out, but maybe I'll be the adult some day.

But even when Merlin isn't there, it's a great photo opp!

http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/index.htm Has the current show times for the ceremony (click on Magic Kingdom and scroll down towards the bottom, under Fantasy Land). This is a great site, and he updates the show times for WDW every week.

I was the adult once while I was there. I knew I wasn't going to be able to pull it out, so I had fun hamming it up a little bit.

If you're ever selected, make the kid feel strong and special....it's all about them, after all. :)

To find out what time Merlin is coming out, you have to check the times guide when you get to the park. His times do tend to change. Also be sure to have your child in the front because that's who he picks.
