Swan and Dolphin

Are there any benefits to staying at either the Swan or the Dolphin? I have seen that they tend to have some great rates for hotels that appear to be on par with the deluxes.

No
And because they're a WDWMagic sponsor, there are sometimes even better rates!

I know there are some things you don't get that are available to Disney resort guests [DME, charging to your room key, DDP and such] but you do get EMH and Disney transport.

You pretty much have it there... Deluxe-level resort within walking distance of Epcot and DHS at less-than deluxe prices.

They have several discount periods which get them down to moderate-level prices. They also have additional discounts for Florida residents, government employees*/active military, teachers/educational staff, and nurses. You have to call them directly for those discounts (I think the military one is available online). * - Not contractors

The buses run to/from the S&D just like any other on property resort, and you are able to enjoy extended park hours just like any other on property resort guest.

However...

Disney Magical Express does not run to S&D. You need to provide your own transportation to/from the airport if flying.

If you are driving or have a rental car, they charge $10/day for parking at the resort (but you still do not have to pay for parking at the parks).

And add $10/day "Resort Charge" to the rate they quote you (for "free" 60m local/20m long dist telephone, "free" high-speed Internet access, "free" access to health club, and two "free" bottles of water per day).
