Surveying being done outside WDW Speedway 3/3/15.

Meh. I won't miss the speedway. Never been there, never will. Was it ever even that popular?
The Speedway actually was very popular when it first opened in 1996 when it actually was used for racing for the Indy Racing League. The popularity of the race track showed there was problems where it was built since the race track couldn't be during the peak season of WDW attendance.

The speedway wasn't opened for guests for most of the year before it was being used for racing experiences due where the race track was built. The location it was built showed it had to be popular since there was a massive overflow for the Epcot Parking lot.

I don't know how popular the Speedway was after the final Indy Car race in 2000 although the Travel Channel was hyping the Richard Petty Experience at the speedway for one of its specials.

I've stayed Old Key West and Hilton Head multiple times and paid cash every one of them. I wouldn't consider something to be DVC-only unless it's restricted to DVC members in some way.

Further, the person I responded to was mocking "recent building trends," and three of those resorts are 20 years old or thereabouts and the "new" is over 10 years old.

It is a DVC only resort, but as member trade out there points to use at places other than Disney Vacation Club resorts, DVC rents the rooms to pay for the use of points outside DVC.

Wow, a bit nitpicky there aren't you? I'm not talking about the legal distinction between Disney Destinations LLC, Walt Disney Travel Company, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts US, Disney Vacation Development, and Disney Vacation Club Management Corporation. Yes, renting rooms to pay for the use of points outside of DVC is how it works behind the scenes, but to the average person speaking plain English, the fact that a non-DVC member can book a room at Old Key West means Old Key West is not a DVC-only resort.

It stayed busy. When I paid to drive it, there was limited availability, and that was during a "slow" time for the resorts (January 2013).
Considering the age of the track, it was probably approaching the age where they were going to have to consider resurfacing or some kind of work on the track to take care of natural settling that occurs over time. I'm not sure anything will be going in there other than maybe a reconfiguration of the entrance and exit to the parking lot. Probably leave the Mickey lake, though.

Historically, before it was a race track it was a parking lot. It's probably just going back to it's original usage. It won't be filled up everyday, but, even the few days when MK is close to capacity it will generate more revenue then the race track probably does all year. After all these years, I have never seen anyone on the track.

In fact, the RPDE has been quite popular. I don't know about the exotic car thing though. On most days I can hear the stock cars on the track from my balcony, as well as the train whistles from the MK. The track was also used by several NASCAR teams for tire testing over the years. They are really loud.

It would be cool that if, as a parking lot, you get to do a lap before you park down in the bowl. And then Disney can open a body-shop on site to repair while you vacation. Brilliant!

DVC rooms... DVC inventory.. that can be rented out (by Disney or owners). Still a DVC room. DVC is just not owners-only.. its that way EVERYWHERE. So why you think because you could pay cash, it's no longer DVC... mindboggling

I can't believe some of you guys are so literal. Yes, it's TECHNICALLY a DVC room. But the average guest pays approximately zero attention to concepts like "room night inventory" or "subsidiaries of The Walt Disney Company."

If you told a random normal person on the street (NOT an informed member of wdwmagic) that Old Key West was a DVC-only resort, they would assume that means that they're unable to book a room. "Disney Vacation Club only" strongly implies that you must be in the CLUB to have access.

Of all the post on this topic i feel that this has made the most sense!

Witty. Except, you know, Disney hasn't actually built ANYTHING Frozen related (one thing in progress), nor do they have a single DVC-only resort. And their last resort opened three years ago and had nothing to do with DVC.

But yeah, other than that... totally.

Well, Cap, your sarcasm detector is not only broken, but it's also been used as a toilet by some bum in a back back alley, set on fire, and then extinguished with the tears of terminally-ill children.

Are we sure this surveying isn't due to the Floridian Way road expansion that goes along with the new North entrance? There have been plans to widen Floridian Way for a while since it is congested with traffic constantly.

Sorry I have not answered your posting but here is way some resorts are DVC only. Resorts like Wilderness Lodge have both DVC rooms (Disney owned) and non-DVC rooms (time share owned). Others like Old Key West have only DVC rooms (time share owned). I can use my points to stay at Caribbean Beach Resort, but that does not make it a DVC resort. DVC Resorts are a time share and run as such. DVC only means that the resort is totally time share owned rooms.
