Surprise trip treasure hunt

We decided to surprise our kids with a trip this year and I thought I'd have some fun with it since the kids are huge Gravity falls fans. We had our neighbor drop off an envelope that was misdelivered to his house.

And the hunt was on.

Here's the whole letter with the 3 extra clues attached.

It took about 90 minutes of them running around the yard and decoding.

With all of the clues they found they needed a blacklight to see what else to do.

Before finally folding the map into a hat.

That showed them where to find the magic bands and resulted in a lot of excitement. I had wanted to wait until the morning of the trip to tell them that we were going, but this turned out to be a lot of fun.

Sorry to say I have no idea what Gavity Falls is but what a GREAT idea !! Teaching problem solving, group effort and other skills by using brain power ( of course that's a source of energy that will never run out, according to Ellen ). My hat's off to you.

I love it! We surprised my niece one year by sending her "guessing game" type packages weekly. It started with an intro letter intriguing her to solve the puzzle.

One of the packages included a large plastic bottle cap and 2 matching smaller ones. If arranged correctly they formed a hidden mickey.

(too much time on our hands AND a love of Disney!!)

OOOOH... I LIKE THIS A LOT. :joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: What a fun and exciting way to start things off with the kids. As a puzzler/ cryptology fan it got my attention right away. They deciphered it in 90 minutes but how long did it take you to design it? Are you going to continue with more hunts when you are at Disney?

Took me a few days on and off to put it together. Hardest part was that they couldn't see any of it, so i could only do it after they were in bed. Have you looked at the Gravity Falls: Journal 3 book?
