Trip Report SURPRISE SEPTEMBER TRIP REVEALED.... BUT WAS IT A SURPRISE?

This is my first trip report and I hope I can compare to the high standards of some of the trip reports I read before our trip, during my research period. Thank you by the way to all who indirectly made this a magically and memorable trip.

We did manage to make it to WDW and back home safely. Been home for about 6 days now and still working at cleaning/organizing everything after the trip. Especially all the photos taken. I had a personal count of about 2200 pictures/videos of my own. Now mind you most of those were similar. By that I mean, my cameras have the option of taking up to 3 photos in a row. I thought best to use this feature in order to acquire the perfect shot, instead of being stuck with only the 'one' picture of someone looking elsewhere or with their eyes closed. And of course there were those few shots taken of the ground that always appear to happen. Not to mention just over another 1000 photos in my Memory Maker account. I think this was a very good investment on my part.

I guess I should start by back tracking a little.

Why? Besides the answer of why not, this trip started to flourish by the kids last year asking if we could go to WDW. I promised we could in two or three years but we would have to cut back on some of our spending and start saving for it. So, true answer, promise made.

How? Things just ended up falling into place to go this September, about a year in advance. I was able to receive some severance from a project I was helping with and thought our WDW trip would be a good way of using it.

When? I was originally thinking of going around March 2017, near to DD's birthday, but further research provided information September provided some of the lowest crowd levels. This would be an extra benefit for someone who has not been to WDW in about 40 years to be able to get around. September provided some extra benefits besides the lower crowds, lower costs and free dining. I would happen to have the children for a 3 week period in September and would allow flexibility to when we would fly. (Only later to decide we would be driving instead, but still allow us to be at WDW longer than the normal 7 days I have the children.) It would also be DS's birthday during this 3 week period and who won't want to celebrate their birthday at WDW.

I decided we would drive down (more due to trying to keep it a secret longer), departing Canada on Monday, September 12th taking the scenic route to WDW. We would arrive at WDW on Thursday, September 15th and depart on Friday, September 23rd. This would give us newbies 7 full days in the parks to explore.

I should add that while I was organizing the above, the children were planning a trip for the three of us to go to WDW July 2017 for my birthday. I know I am mean in being so deceitful, but I actually did give them the option to help plan 'a trip I was planning' but they wanted it to be a surprise. So, really it is their own fault. :p:D:rolleyes:;):joyfull:

I should add a little footnote to the above. After everything settled down, I noticed I had received a text saying our room was ready. I do believe the text came between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. this would have been long before we were even in WDW. I think we were still at Busch Gardens. But I remember a number of comments of people here not receiving texts to inform them their room was ready. I guess it was beginners luck.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - MAGIC KINGDOM

So today is our very first park day and no better way to start then by going to Magic Kingdom. My plan was to get there as early as possible, EMH morning, and try to get as much accomplished in Fantsyland before 1:00 pm when we were to return to our hotel to eat/rest/swim/change before returning to MK for MNSSHP.

So, how well did we do, especially with to kids who really don't like waking up early. I was up early, think it was 5:00 am. I got along with my morning routine of getting ready while the kids slept a little longer. Wake up for the kids was 6:00 am but I don't think they were mobile until about 6:30 am. They both decided to have hot cereal, which I had brought with us. I also brought a single cup tea maker in order to heat up the water to prepare their hot cereal. I found this routine saved us plenty of time instead of heading to the food court for breakfast. Not only did we not have to get dressed and travel, but didn't have to wait in any lines. Did I mention they really are not morning people.

While trying to get the kids up, I made the best of my time by preparing our backpack. I put an epi pen in both of the side pockets. DD is allergic to yellow jacket and wasps/hornets. Thankfully I don't really remember seeing any and therefore we didn't have utilize the epi pens. But they were always on hand just in case. I also brought a bunch of large and small zip lock bags in order to store/separate everything in the backpack. This was a helpful hint from someone, whom I forget it came from but thank you. This did make things easier when we got to bag check. Didn't really need to dump everything and if they did, real easy to return everything back into the backpack. So, now we have everything from snacks, sunscreen, various coloured markers, hair clips, memory cards/extra batteries/portable charger, etc into the various pockets of the backpack. One of the kids main goals was to get as many pictures/autographs of the various characters. DS really wanted to meet Mickey. And for DD it was just about everyone especially the Princesses. There were many ideas out there on how to accomplish this. From the matte from a picture frame to an autograph book to index cards. A quick look at my agendas I could see we had plenty of opportunities to meet characters. For this reason I didn't think there would be room on a photo matte or an autograph book. I decided to go with the index card idea but couldn't find 4x6 index cards so went with 4x6 white blank note pad which each had 100 sheets. For storage/signing I gave the kids their own covered clipboard which also had a pocket to safely store the signed autographs. Then we could find an photo album to house their autographs and pictures with whom they got the autographs with, and some who didn't sign.

We made our last minute check, which included sun screen. This was always a task to complete with DS but was done each morning. Found we were okay without reapplying later in the day. We were not on the bus by 7:00 am but didn't do too bad for our first day. We did have an issue at the park entrance. No it was not security. It was DD's magic band. This would not be the first time it would happen. Eventually, they actually took her picture. But I think we eventually found out the reason behind it not working.

First Disney bus ride. Feeling a little tired but excited about the day ahead.
1 first bus ride.JPG

By 8:10 we made our way through security and actually in the parks. The kids were super excited and couldn't believe they were actually there.

First a picture of the entrance/train station. I didn't know it at the time, but we got in the way of a Photo Pass station. I apologized once I realized and moved over to take the below picture.
2 front entrance.JPG

Next up a picture of main street with the castle in the background. Things were already busy and it was only 8:10, as you can tell by the clock on the left.
3 main street.JPG

We were already behind our agenda, but was already going with the wise words of @Tuvalu, of going with the flow. I had the ambitious notion of hitting Peter Pan, Mine Train and Adventures of Pooh before, or slightly after, 9:00 am. However the lines for all 3 were all well beyond 20-30 minutes by the time we got to the back. So, I decided to make the 7 Dwarf's Mine Train our first ever ride at MK, let alone all of WDW. It was listed as a 30 minute wait. I know by most standards this is not very long as it can reach 120 minutes. The kids enjoyed some of the attractions while in the queue. But I don't think we waited the 30 minutes. The line did move fairly steadily. As you remember, we were on main street at 8:10 am and the below picture was taken 8:39 am. This is less then 30 minutes between both pictures, which would also include not only travelling time but also decision time to decide which ride we made our first.

DS ready for our first ride.

DD ready.

You can tell some people have been on the ride before and who has not. :) DS stated the lady he was sitting beside was very nice. Ask him if he had been on the ride before. He replied, no and was his first ever ride/visit. She wished him a great trip and a happy birthday as she noticed his birthday button.

Getting ready for the unexpected. I guess it was enough to throw my lanyard around my neck.
4 MK_MINETRAIN Sept 16 (3).jpeg

Back to DS with a smile at the end of our ride. I think it was a successful first ride. :)
4 mine train (2).JPG

By this time, the times for our other two choices were out of control so I thought I would move on with our agenda, to Pete's Silly Side Show, to get our first character experiences and attempt to get FP+s for these two rides later in our trip.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - CONTINUED

We arrived at Pete's prior to the doors opening. There were a few people in line but not many. It was already starting to get warm so I sent the kids into the shade, where they played and entertained themselves, while I waited in line. While we were waiting, noticed Chip & Dale enter an area for a M&G steps from where we were. Guess where we were going next.

I had also realized my first camera was giving my difficulties. I would be able to take 3-4 pictures and they would state memory error. Not something I wanted to happen this early in the trip. I had specifically purchased brand new memory cards for each of the cameras. I had formatted the cards, but only started using them this morning considering they had more memory and would need it for this part of the trip. But surprisingly, the new cards was only an issue with only one of the cameras. This would cause some major issues later in the morning.

First up Daisy, Hugs for DD.

I think Minnie noticed the Minnie hair clips DD has put in her hair. They caused Minnie to take interest and as you can see by DD's smile increased the interaction.

Big hugs from Goofy for DD. DS also got big hugs as well however, pic didn't want to download.

Family pic with Goofy. Not sure why DS is standing so far from Goofy. I did mention to the kids about asking certain questions. Question for Goofy, how was his son Max. Goofy was surprised to be asked but indicated he was doing well.

This must have been taken after I 'spoke' with Donald at DD's request. He was quite impressed. I forget his exact reaction but as you can tell he wanted to shake my hand and quacked me up at the same time. All the while, DD is also enjoying the moment.
8 MK_SBCSIDESHOWDONALDCHAR Sept 16 (8).jpeg

The one thing we forgot to do in all the hustle and bustle of our first M&Gs were getting the autographs. Something we didn't forget the rest of our trip, as the final autograph count would indicate.

We went through the gift shop for a second time, it was nice and cool in there, but this time was to get over to meet Chip and Dale. There was really no line to speak of. I believe there was only one family in front of us.

The one thing DS did just prior to meeting Chip and Dale was run over to the CM and asked her how to tell them apart. Her response, Chip has a brown nose just like a chocolate chip. I think Dale was impressed DS knew it was him.

An enjoyable and successful M&G for the kids as you can tell by their smiles. This would not be our last time meeting the chipmunks and not the most enjoyable. Oh yes, we were just warming up for our future M&Gs.

Great trip report! I also take my daughter by myself on my trips and it is so much of a bonding experience between us. I like surprising her as well. Your kids look like they had a blast. :)

I cracked up at the reveal video "I don't have pants on!" So great:D You're daughters reaction was so sweet. Looks like a great trip so far!

Yes, apparently he likes to be comfortable when he sleeps and pants just doesn't do it.
I was not sure what to expect when the surprised was revealed, I am please with both of their reactions. And I always love hugs.
They did enjoy the trip up until we reached WDW. Now it was time to take it over the top.

Thank you for following.

Thank you.
I like having them with me. And they like joining me on my travels. :D
We really don't need special bonding time, however it never hurts having special moments. :joyfull::inlove::joyfull:
They have come to the point they no longer ask where we are going, just expect it to be a great time. I am not sure what to do next time. o_O:cool:
They did. And it was just beginning. :D:D:happy::joyfull:

FRIDAY, SEPT 16 CONTINUED...

Time for us to make it to our first FP+, Under the Sea Journey Little Mermaid. But first we had to have a little interaction with her father.
10 King Trident.JPG

DS didn't want any part of this picture.
10 under the sea mermaid.JPG

Then through the fast pass gates. It was our first time with this method and one the kids really started to enjoy. To the point, every time we went to an attraction they asked if we had a FP. The pictures are not the best, camera didn't work well in the dark in a slow moving vehicle.
10 under the sea mermaid (1).JPG
10 under the sea mermaid (3).JPG

Then we were off to something DS had researched and was looking forward to, meeting Gaston. We had viewed a video of Gaston interacting with a little girl who had told him he would never marry Belle. Oh it was entertaining and we were going to try to get the same reaction. First a picture in front of the fountain.
11 gaston foutain Enlargements (1).JPG

I had mentioned earlier it was warm and it wasn't getting any cooler. It was still early for the M&G, so we took shelter in some shade. Our choice for our rest almost cost us the M&G. We were on the opposite side of the building. The kids were hungry so I pulled out the snacks I had brought. I headed into Gaston's Tavern in order to get us some cold water. I took me some time as it was very busy with everyone getting a Cinnamon Bun, which looked like could feed a small army. Once we finished our snack we made our way to Gaston's M&G. It was not far, literally on the other side of the building we were beside. We managed to get in line, just. I think we were about the second last. Rookie mistake. We should have got our spot in line first and then had our snack while waiting. Lesson learned. I gave the kids Gaston, Belle and Beast character figures. DS had a plan, he wanted to hide them and show them in a specific order.

First the Beast. This really started tuning him up and now we were off to the races.
11 MK_GASTONSTAVERNCHAR Sept 16 (1).jpeg

Then Gaston.. I think there was a pause at this point. He just had to stop to admire himself. And then let everyone else know how great he is.
11 MK_GASTONSTAVERNCHAR Sept 16 (3).jpeg

11 MK_GASTONSTAVERNCHAR Sept 16 (5).jpeg

Then Belle for last. You can tell just how he is cracking up DD on how wonderful Belle and Gaston's lives would be when she married him.
11 MK_GASTONSTAVERNCHAR Sept 16 (8).jpeg

11 MK_GASTONSTAVERNCHAR Sept 16 (11).jpeg

DS doesn't like having his picture posted on social media without his prior approval. However he gave his blessing to post the Gaston M&G video on YouTube. I started the video as the kids approached Gaston. Remember me mentioning earlier the one camera was not working well. Well this is the one I use for videos. So, needless to say there is great disappointment in not having video evidence of this M&G. As you can tell by the smiles, this was a very entertaining M&G.

FRIDAY, SEPT 16 - CONTINUED...

We had some time before our next FP, so ventured on a quest for some A/C. First stop was Mickey's Philharmagic. The stand by time was 10 minutes. It really was just the time waiting for the next show. The A/C was enjoyed as was the show. We really enjoyed the show and won't be the last time we would stop in to see it.

Then we continued in the same direction for a ride I remember from when I was last there. We almost debated not seeing it at this time as it was calling for a 30 minute wait. And that was from the gate and the line extended well beyond the gate. We decided to stay and wait it out. I think the wait was a little shorter.

DD was given a little gift when we got to the gate. At this rate I was sure we would surpass any record @Tuvalu may have during a single visit. They question was posed as to what it was. So, I had to explain the reason behind it. Again, thanks to @Tuvalu for explaining it to me when I asked. Now, made me appear I knew what I was talking about. But I had to explain it was all due to research.
12 its a small world.JPG

We were in our seats 14 minutes after receiving our little red gift and enjoying our ride.
DS was admiring the attractions. He did mention at one point it was difficult to see everything on both sides.
12 its a small world (1).JPG

They were both impressed with the detail of all the dolls and the work that went into making them move.
12 its a small world (4).JPG

This is about the best picture I have from the ride.

At this time, it was time for a rest stop. No better place than Rapunzel's Tower.
12 its a small world (7).JPG

The baby stroller valet service was very busy in this section. Actually, they were busy in most areas we visited.

DD was in the photo taking mood.

We then made our way back towards our next FP, but first a ride on Prince Charming's Regal Carousel
Not the clearest picture of DS. He actually ended up moving one horse over, closer to me, so the man with the hat behind him could have a 'race' with his grandson.

While on our way back to Ariel's Grotto, as we had been in the area earlier, DS asked how I knew where we were going. I informed him research, research and more research. Apparently all of my planning had paid off as I was having a good sense of where we were going without having to open up the park map.

The kids asked if we had a FP when we arrived. I said we did and they were more than happy to swipe their bands. However, before we were able to the CM asked if we were there to meet Ariel and not for the Under the Sea Journey. I said we were and had already been on the ride. I would guess others have made that mistake in the past and the reason for the question.

There didn't appear to be much of a wait, I didn't notice the stand by time. However, I tried to get as many FP+s in order to reduce our wait times as much as possible. Less time in line = more time enjoying the attractions/M&Gs.

I am not sure on the conversation during this M&G but the kids appeared to have enjoyed it. Not sure if you can notice it, but in DD's right hand is Flounder. I was not able to locate an Ariel before we left, or at least one with an outfit. And of course, her father, King Trident, was still incarcerated in DD's water bottle, so we were not able to bring him along for this M&G. Ariel was very pleased to see her friend, Flounder.

The kids always chose their marker colours prior to our meetings. Trying to match colour with character.
14 MK_GROTTOACHAR Sept 16 (3).jpeg
14 MK_GROTTOACHAR Sept 16 (7).jpeg

We made a quick stop in the exit way. One for DD to switch her hair clips. Which she remembered she didn't take her hat off while with Ariel. And second to adjust the kids autograph pads so they were ready for our next FP, Enchanted Tale with Belle.

The kids happily tagged their bands and proceeded to our entrance. A CM came out and mentioned she would be right back as just had to take care of their current guests. I took this time to pick up a 4th FP. I was hoping to get one for Mickey at Town Square Theater before we went back to Sports, but non was available within the hour. I was however able to get one to meet Tinker Bell.

First we were escorted into Maurice's workshop.
15 enchanted tale with Belle.JPG

Then we meet the Wardrobe. All the assignments in order to participate in the tale was distributed here. We were all chosen for a part. DS as a large frame, DD as a small frame and me as a suit of armor.

Me at my post protecting Belle. But found out it is not always best to participate. At least if you are 'alone'. It was a little difficult to take pictures.

But I managed to take a few. DS on his way to greet Belle.

This was an entertaining event. The A/C was nice as well. The kids got nice book mark souvenirs but no autograph this visit.

So, now we are on our way back to Sports but not first stopping for a few photo ops and one more M&G.

I'm definitely taking notes on your interactions as M&Gs are big Wishlist item for me for my trip next year.

DS doesn't like having his picture posted on social media without his prior approval.

This is so smart and respectful. Good on you, da, for this.

He actually ended up moving one horse over, closer to me, so the man with the hat behind him could have a 'race' with his grandson.

And good on your son for this, too. Awesome family.

Then just keep reading as we have many many more M&Gs. I am more than happy to share our experiences as many others have within this forum. Some of what we did were learned here.

He has another family member who posts a number of pictures of him. In fact, posted a selfie of his and Mickey from our second day which he was very upset about. He just forwarded the picture so they could see and within minutes it was on social media with already two likes. I asked him to text in order to express his feelings and to ask to have it taken down, as I didn't want everyone to know we weren't home. He trusts me not to post without his permission. So, he doesn't have any reservations of me taking pictures of him.

I have given us a single goal for each day, a good deed. As simple as opening a door for someone. I no longer have to suggest it, it just happens. There were more throughout our trip.

FRIDAY, SEPT 16 CONTINUED..

Well, I guess being home sick has it's advantages.... I can continue my pre trip report a little more than I would normally.

The kids wanted an attempt at the Sword.
First up DD to no avail.
16 sword in the stone.JPG

Then DS's turn. He put his back into it but still not able to pull it out. As you can see, their lanyards were very useful. Not only able to pin their buttons but also their markers.

A picture of the castle from the Fantasyland view. Tried to avoid the crane as much as I could. We would be up there on the second floor in a few days.
17 back of castle.JPG

We had to go around the castle instead of through it as we did first thing this morning. When we came around to the front we came upon the Move It! Shake It! Dance Party. It was something I had on my radar but not on today's agenda. But we were going to take advantage of this even though it was close to being over. Phineas and Ferb are a couple of DS's favourite characters and he is disappointed there are no new episodes. We were able to see them. DS wanted to go up and meet them but they were either entertaining infants/toddlers, and he didn't want to intruded or the music started back up again and we had to move off the road.

We continued up main street until we got to our next destination, Tinker Bell M&G. I don't remember there being a long wait time, maybe 20 minutes, but we were still more than happy to use our FP. Every minute saved gave us more enjoyable experiences. She was very cheery with the kids. Helpful as well. As you can see she assisted DS in getting his autograph book ready. DS also thought yellow would be her colour. I believe DD went with green for her colour.

It was now just past 1:00 pm and we made our way out of MK and onto a bus headed for Sports.

But before leaving, I was able to get a 5th FP in order to take a ride through the 100 acre woods between 4:25 and 5:25 pm.

FRIDAY, SEPT 16 CONTINUED....

Our first stop at Sports was the food court and this would be our first use of our meal plan. We all headed into the same line in order to get some pizza. It was very busy in the food court and it took a while for us to get our meals. However, what we didn't know was that we were not done yet. We got in line to 'purchase' our meals and the CM was kind enough to tell us we had not gathered everything we were entitled to, namely dessert and kid snack/drink. I am not sure if it was the end of his shift, as someone came to take over his register, but he then asked the new CM to take care of us as it was our first time and we didn't have everything. He then changed his mind and asked us to follow him to the back cooler area and showed us where everything was and what we were entitled to. This was very helpful for our future visits. He then showed us where the refillable mugs were and stated we were entitled to one each. We chose lids which matched our magic bands as it just happened. The CM then took us to the register and helped us cash out. I thanked him for all of his help in making what we were entitled to clear.

We sat down by the window and enjoyed our lunch. Sorry, no picture. This would be something which would happen many times as not use to taking pictures of our meals. But there are some to come. The kids enjoyed watching some old Disney cartoons while we ate.

I gave the kids the option of taking a nap, in order to get some rest for the long night ahead, or going for a swim. I really should have known what the answer would have been from my little fish. Swimming it was. They got changed into the swimsuits and we made our way down to the pool. One of the pool entrances was literally across from our elevator entrance. We found a spot for me to rest and go on the MDE app get some more information for the night. I let the kids swim for about an hour before I mentioned it was time to get ready for the party. They had quick showers and changed into their Halloween costumes. DD as Jasmine and DS as a Jedi Padawan. Not quite a Jedi yet. Not until Wednesday.
22 customes.JPG

We were then back onto the bus shortly after 4:00 pm heading back to MK to participate in the MNSSHP events. We didn't have any issues getting past security, just DD with her magic band again.

DD likes to have her picture taken, and why not, she is a lovely Princess. My Princess forever.

We just made it to our FP, I do believe it was close to getting into the extra time. But this was for sure a good FP to get as the stand by line was long. The kids enjoyed the ride, but I didn't know how much they liked the hundred acre woods friends until our dinner on our last night.

There were a couple attractions I wanted to see as according to the WDW site were not open the rest of our stay, or at least for our future MK visits. But first they couldn't resist this photo op. As you can see, DS trying to use the force to get out of his stocks.

FRIDAY, SEPT 16 CONTINUED...

Once the kids were freed from the stockes we made it to the Country Bear Jamboree. We only had a short wait before we were inside finding our seats. DS wanted to sit in the back row so we made our way across the back row. However, the kids didn't have a great view. There were a couple of ladies sitting in front of us. One was wearing a hat. The gentleman to our right offered to move down, stating he had seen the show many times. I moved to my left so DD could have a better view. This didn't totally work and before I could adjust the same gentleman slide down and we followed. I thanked him and asked if he had been at WDW often. He stated he had and knew the show well but it was his first time at WDW alone. He decided to make a quick stop after a work travel thing and before he made it home.

The kids enjoyed the show and made our way around to Adventureland. It is too bad I didn't know about all the secret passageways, like the one beside the arcade. But it was a pleasant walk and were able to see more of the park ending at the Enchanted Tiki Room. I don't think we waited more than 5 minutes before we were let in and in our seats. The kids complained they couldn't see the front/centre. I told them not to worry as the show was not there but above them. I don't think they understood, or even that I didn't know what I was talking about at least not until the show started. By this time, DS was picking out where the different characters were going to be coming from/coming alive.
27 tiki room.JPG

The Magic Carpet of Aladdin were just outside the exit doors of the Tiki Room so to be our next stop. By this time it was was shortly after 6:15 pm. The kids went up into the line while I waited for them. The one thing I did notice was the clouds. I don't remember the weather channel/news/app was calling for any rain. The kids made it up about to the front of the line and waiting their turn to go on. It was about this time the skies opened up. And I do mean open up. Luckily their was a canopy where the kids and I were. We were still getting a little wet considering the wind and amount of rain. Those who were on the ride were cleared and they also took refuge under the canopies. I was not totally in dislike of the rain as I knew in most times it would pass and people would leave. Unfortunately, I don't think people left. At least not that I noticed. I did see a lot of wet people. The other downside, remember me saying it wasn't suppose to rain, well due to it I didn't bring our raincoats/ponchos. I made mention of forgetting our ponchos and the CM mentioned they don't always work and you still get wet. It only came down for about half an hour but it felt like a lot longer under those canopies. There was no thunder or lighting. I think I made a sly remark about the kids going on the ride. The CM replied they could if they wanted to. They were not shut down due to thunder. Some people left from under the canopies and it did let up a little. I motioned to the kids to come down as we were going to try to make it to Pirates of the Caribbean. The CM ask to confirm if we were heading to Pirates. I stated we were as it was indoors. She opened up the draw of the stand and handed us 3 paper FPs for Pirates, stating we could use those to get in. We didn't quite time it the best as it started to come down again shortly after we left, but we had made our move and no going back. We made it to Pirates like the little wet rats we were. And I do mean we were soaked. The CMs there mentioned we could take refuge there from the rain. I mentioned we were actually there for the ride and showed them the paper FPs. The one CM mentioned we could keep them, let them dry and use them later. I was thinking okay thank you but before I was finished my thought he had opened his draw and pulled out some more FPs. He offered to give us some dry ones as well. I have learned if you don't ask you don't know so I replied, 'I would be more than happy to take as many as he would like to give us.' He looked at me, then down at the small stack and then handed them all to me. We thank him and waiting in the queue area. We were waiting in the area as I knew Pirates had A/C and it may not be wise for us to enter considering how wet we were and DD already being sick. And she was the wettest of the three of us. DS gave her his cloak, not that it helped much as it was wet as well. Other CMs noticed us and stated a little closer to the entrance was warmer. We were able to find a hot spot before we made it inside. Again not the best quality in the pictures.

After Pirates we decided to go trick or treating. We hit up four spots before deciding it was time for some M&Gs. First up was the Aladdin M&G area. The line was slow, almost to the point of thinking not staying. But we are glad we stayed. The characters were switching in and out. They were there in pairs, Aladdin and Abu. The kids were excited to meet Abu as they were aware he was rare. However, Aladdin and Adu left just before it was our turn. The kids were disappointed they won't be able to 'play' with Abu. But then again, he would be more than likely to steal something. Shortly, Jasmine appeared. Even though it was a Princess M&G, we were planning on meeting her at least once or twice. Same could not be said about Aladdin or Abu. However, luck would be on our side as the Genie joined Jasmine. The kids were aware as to how rare he is. Not to mention they like his character in the movie.

A little Princess to Princess chat. Even though it was Anna on her tiara, it was Jasmine on her hair clips.
29 MK_AGRABAH_Sept 16 (1).jpeg

Both the Genie and Jasmine were impressed with DS's lightsaber. To the point, Jasmine asked him to join her Honour Guard. Can you tell I am still wet. Right down to my toes. But the party must go on.

29 MK_AGRABAH_Sept 16 (6).jpeg

I guess I was too close to the Princess for the new Honour Guard member.
29 MK_AGRABAH_Sept 16 (7).jpeg

Before leaving I did ask Genie if I could have three wishes. He indicated to share my wishes. I told him I would have to get back to him after I had thought about it.

Speaking of trick or treaters, I should get ready for those ghouls and goblins that will be knocking on the door shortly.

Depending how late they go and if I go for early Halloween discounts, I may be able to do one more post before nights end and finish our first day at a WDW park.

FRIDAY, SEPT 16 CONTINUED....

Well that was a nice break. I hope everyone was able to enjoy their Halloween evening. I think the parents of the children knocking on our door were more entertained then the children. I have come to make the children work for their candy; from not knowing why they were there to asking if they were good at school as I had a pop quiz for them if they wanted candy. Pop quiz, who/what were they? Surprisingly it stumped a few of them. And then I would just go from there. Princesses I mentioned it was nice to meet them again but they had shrunk. Storm Troopers told them they had to leave because they had entered a Rebel outpost and their lives were at risk. Well, you get the picture how it was at our home. I could hear the giggles coming from the sidewalk. Then I was also able to see my kids as well, and we went for a short walk. Our walk was delay because we kept getting interrupted by greedy ghouls looking for candy. But my two were also entertained with my antics.

Well on with hopefully the last portion of our first MK visit.

Did I mention in my last post that the rain had stopped. It had mostly stopped after we left the Pirates. So all were safe from getting further wet, well except for a minor spitting, soon to explain.

Next M&G; Tarzan, Jane and Terk. I wasn't sure how this M&G was going to go, but the kids wanted to meet them and I would say, it went very well. There was no photographer here so the CM was taking pictures. Tarzan was in full character mode. From being 'freaked out' by DS's lightsaber to how he wrote his name...TAR ZAN. DD still talks how Tarzan acted and reenacts how he wrote his name.

This was another one of our lucky moments. Shortly after the below picture was taken, Terk and to leave for a banana break. So, the kids mentioned how luck they were to have Terk included in the M&G.

We walked down the alleyway a little further to encounter another rare and this time evil character, Jafar. The children really wanted to meet the Aladdin villain. This was a long wait and we were around the corner for most of the time so wasn't able to see what was going on. I actually don't think Jafar was there for the most of the time I was in line. As once the line started moving we were like right there and no reason for the line not to move quickly as he wasn't signing. However the children made the most of their time, as they went off to make up for their earlier rained out ride on the Magic Carpets. During this time I had seen Jafar come and go. Once, even witnessed one of his escorts get a little wet. From the spitting camel beside the Magic Carpet ride, which was just in front of me but to the side so I was safe from its spitting. I am not sure how many victims there were during this period of time. The kids showed up just in time as the line started to move. And move it did, for as once it moved we standing beside Jafar in no time.

Our last M&G for the night was also a long wait, Captain Jack Sparrow. Part of the reason was he had left for a rum break, but he was also very interactive with all those who came to meet him. I did notice a few things while waiting. The two behind us had picture matte for autographs. It was nice to see these in person, even though we didn't go with this option. The other was a group of 4 young ladies in front of us. This was soon to be 5 as another friend came to join them. The 5th had just visited the 7 Dwarfs and was showing off the pictures she had with them. I really wanted to ask how long she had to wait for the actual M&G, as I had heard you had to get in line early, like really early. I heard from an hour up to 2 hours. I didn't think it worth 'wasting' up to 2 hours for one M&G when we could get up to 4 in that same time. But I guess it is easier to get into another M&G if you have some friends already in line. I also got the impression that they/some of them were CMs.

It was finally our turn. I will admit he did appear to be in character. Even acting like he had an actual rum break. He did come down to meet the kids.

I think he was trying to recruit DS to join his crew, while he admired the lightsaber.

I believe it was at this time he offered to ensure the safety of DD's tierra.
33 MK_CARRIBBEANPLZCHAR Sept 16 (5).jpeg

Another successful M&G.
33 MK_CARRIBBEANPLZCHAR Sept 16 (7).jpeg

He did refer to me as Captain, however I don't think he like my response to his offer regarding the tierra. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

By this time it was getting really late, 9:30 pm, and we hadn't eaten since lunch back at Sports. I don't think we even had a snack. A few treats I don't think counted. So, our next goal was to find something to eat on main street, so we won't be to far from the night time attractions. We ended up at Casey's Corner and I will have to say, it was very busy. Lines to place orders. To the point I had to ask a few which line they were in. The kids both ordered the hot dog meal with chocolate milk, I had the footlong dog with fries and lemonade and we all had brownies for dessert. Sorry no pictures again. The next big challenge was getting a table, as I really didn't want to stand to eat. Body could really use a rest as no sit down breaks with the M&Gs. We were lucky enough to see a family ready to leave their table and confirmed with them they were leaving. They confirmed they were and offered their table. However, it would have been nice if they had taken all of their leftovers. We enjoyed the rest and the food as well. I don't think any of us were able to finish our meals. We gathered all of our unwantings and offered our table to another family looking for a place to rest/eat.

The first light show of two had just started. I can't remember the names of both, but one was Happy Hallowishes Fireworks for sure. I believe it was the second. We watched the first show from near Casey's. We moved closer for the second. Sorry didn't get any pictures of the first and only a few sad pictures of the second. We enjoyed both shows. The kids like fireworks, but surprisingly (well maybe not) we didn't see many during our trip.

We were now off to find a seat for Mickey's 'Boo to You' Halloween Parade. We headed towards Frontierland for our spot, thinking near the start would be a good place. We made our way through the crowds while DD was stating she was tired. I ignored her statements and we found a spot near the liberty bell. Not sure of the building or attraction we were in front of. There was not much space there, just enough for us and no one behind us. There were already many lining along the parade route. DD was tired and laying down her head. DS even offered his lap for her to lay her head. I finally made the decision we were not going to stay for the parade, even though it was a highlight for the event. I really didn't feel like carrying DD from the back of the park through the crowds and then having to wait for a bus. So, up we went and made our way out of our park. I don't think we had to wait long for a bus, but DD did manage to snuggle on the bus and fell asleep. I could manage carrying her from the bus to our room.

The kids got dressed for bed as I hung their clothes to dry. I tucked them in and told them they could sleep in as tomorrow was a scheduled late start. I prepared to continue with my nightly rountine of emptying out the backpack, charging up all of our devices and going over our agenda for the next day. But first adding another aspect to the rountine by taking my mug to the food court for a cold drink in order to hydrate. I think I also went online to catch up on the live updates from @JenniferS.

The one thing I also gave the kids the night before were two nightlights. A BB8 for DS and a Finding Dory for DD. The kids like night lights in their rooms and I know hotel rooms can get pretty dark unless you leave a light on which then may be too bright. No happy medium. So, I decided to get a couple of night lights. But I also remembered my two are not the only ones who like night lights. So, I adjusted a custom from @blgauger. Instead of purchasing balloons to pass along to children checking in, I thought we could leave the nightlights behind with a note for them to enjoy them as we did. However, the Finding Dory nightlight didn't work. So, we were down to one.

So, our first day in a WDW park has come to an end. I will admit, it would have been nice to have seen the parade but it was a long day for the kids. At least for DD. From shortly after 8:00 am to almost 11:00 pm. That is almost 15 hours of park time not including the early morning wake up call. I think they did alright. Now to see how they are in the morning for day 2.

Tomorrow I have scheduled a late start in order to allow the kids to recover from today with our only two park day.

I have come to make the children work for their candy

That sounds like a cool plan. We, however, are the Scroogiest house on our block and we don't decorate for any holidays. Trying to change that, but that's going to take a lot of time as the hobbit doesn't like "clutter."

DAY 2: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH - EPCOT & HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS

I didn't get up as early this morning, but still much earlier then the kids. I got ready, had breakfast and prepared our backpack as per what would be my normal morning routine. This time I made sure to pack our rain jackets. In discussing with the children, it was decided they preferred their jackets over the ponchos. I started to wake the children at 10:00 am but was having no luck what so ever. My usually tactic, other than rolling them/nudging them to wake was to put the TV on the Disney Junior channel and turn up the volume. But this was not working and time was getting late. Then I got some help, a knock on the door. It was a CM delivering the package I had been waiting for. He hadn't noticed the do not disturb sign on the door and apologized for intruding. I told him not to worry about it as we were expecting the package and it was more helpful in other ways as well. Once I closed the door I heard a tiny voice say, 'how was that Daddy?' I replied it was someone making a delivery of something I had ordered for them. I opened up the package to reveal the 50 Disney pin lot I had purchased via eBay and had delivered directly to our resort. This was something else I had read was an inexpensive way of getting souvenirs for the children and offer another experience of interacting with the CMs. The kids were excited to see the pins. They loved just about all of them. They divided them equally and I explained why I had purchased the pins. They wanted to keep the majority of them and not trade. The dozen or so they wanted to trade they placed on their lanyards. I made my second rookie mistake this morning, as when I told them about being able to trade pins with the CMs I thought it was only at MK and not at the other parks. Due to this advice, DS decided to leave his pins in our room but DD still wanted to bring hers. This would come into play later in the day, but not necessarily in a bad way.

The kids now got ready for our day and decided to have cold cereal for breakfast this time.

This day was originally planned to be an Animal Kingdom day, however I kept an I on attraction availability and park hours before we left. I had originally planned a day and a half for Animal Kingdom, and a day each at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I knew we won't be able to see everything we wanted to at Epcot and Hollywood Studios in the time I had allotted. But you have to work with the time you have. Then I noticed Animal Kingdom was open until 9:00 pm today and not 7:00 pm as originally posted, so the changes were made. The schedule was changed to a day and a half at both E & HS and a day at AK.

Our FPs for today were:
Spaceship Earth: 11:40-12:40 however I didn't believe we would be able to arrive on time, but I also had it FPed for Sunday as well.
Mission Space:Green: 12:25-1:45
Test Track: 2:30-3:30
ADR: Garden Cafe: 1:35 (this was a last minute ADR and due to a high recommendation from @blgauger)

I am not sure when we were on the bus but we were finally on our way to our second park of our trip. We had no issues passing through security but came to a little slow down at the park entrance. Again it was DD's band which was not turning green. With a little assistance from a supervisor CM we were finally on our way. We didn't stop for any entrance pictures, as we actually had some time to make our first FP. We did, with only minutes before we entered into extra time. Now the stand by time reads 25 minutes, but the line looked much longer than 25 minutes. But I wasn't concern on if it was a quick moving line or not, we were heading to the FP entrance. The kids were really liking being able to skip the line as we went through the FP gates.

Was able to get some better quality pictures on this ride.

DS was not happy with this group for inventing math. Math is not his favourite subject but he is better than he give himself credit for.

I let the kids decide how we would be in the future and the results are not surprisingly. Environmentally friendly home.

They both enjoyed the ride. And this time they both brought their Mickey and Minnie, as they would in helpful later in the day.
1 Spaceship Earth (16).JPG

We now made our way to Mission Space. I had decided on Green in order for our heads to be fine for the rest of the day. Okay, maybe mine. I thought we got there early enough in order to make it to our ADR. However, the pre attraction appeared to be going longer than had been noted and expected. I was actually on MDE app trying to see if I could move back our ADR, but I was having difficulty logging in. Not sure if it was due to no reception in the building or system issue. Either way, I was not able to adjust our ADR time and knew we would be late. Oh, well nothing I could do about it now, might as well enjoy what was ahead of us, a trip to space. There were only 3 of us on our trip. It was agreed one would have extra duties. DD was a little nervous being strapped in via the harness and when the capsule tilted back. We were shortly off on our mission and able to blast off without issue. We did have some issue on our landing, but it just made it a little more exciting. :joyfull::joyfull:

We were finally done our mission and the kids really enjoyed the experience. Now we have to move in order to save our ADR from being cancelled, as now we are not just a little late. I knew Garden Cafe was on the other side and it could be as easy as a straight walk across. But rookie mistake number 3 coming right up. Instead of going straight across, I went towards Test Track and then on a narrow pathway, where as luck would have it a group of 5 thought it would be a good spot for them to stop to have a conversation/photo op. Not to mention, a mobility vehicle was also included in the stand still. But I couldn't have any of this as time was of the essence, and didn't to keep moving between those stopped and those coming the other way. I did hear one of those stopped say maybe this wasn't the best of locations to stop. You think.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: So, this route, as I am sure most of you already know due to your experience, does not lead to the Garden Cafe but to WS. I even stopped to ask two CMs as to the best way to get to the Garden Cafe. The first headed us into WS. The second, headed us out of WS and actually towards the Cafe. We finally made it to GC and yes we were quite late. Did we have to find an alternate for lunch? You will have to wait until my next post.

I will like to add a small comment regarding the crowds. Throughout all of our adventures in the parks we were able to move around those around us, if we needed to, quite easily. the only exception to this was, WS. I would have to say it was the busiest of all the park areas and I am sure it had a lot to do with W&F.
