"Surf Shop"

Wow! Good for you guys! Hmmm, well, you could have some planters outside of the shop filled with sand and planted with sea grass, and you could also paint the floors a sandy color or wooden like a boardwalk and paint a simple mural of the ocean on the wall (and if you're artistic, paint a seagull flying on the mural or, better yet, on the ceiling!). I have no idea how this place looks, but you could put some wooden boards painted white on the counter and on the walls in front of the kitchen and make a fake lifeguard station (really the kitchen!). That's all I've got now, I'm sure you can get a lot of help from our fellow Imagineers!

Could you explain what the building looks like already? That would really help. And, are you going for a steriotypical California Surf-Shop kind of style? If so, then I have a few ideas for you!

This sounds awesome! I am an architecture student at Kansas State University, so... if you want me to, you could get me some more details about the building and I could do some legit arch. work for you. No pay involved, unless you felt the need. I would be glad to do it. I could do some floorplan ideas, elevations, a few 3d renderings. Just tell me what you want, I'll add "my creative touch" and hopefully you'd like it. What do you say??? :-)

I forget if I already stated that he wants to get a big-screen television and channel a live web-cam feed from a website that provides constant video of someplace such as keywest beach or some other beachy-type area.>>>>>

Showing some surfing from a local beach, the islands, etc. would be good but Key West isn't noted for surfing. Where is the shop going to be located?

Great ideas here! Just a few thoughts:

-The star things are a good idea, but would be strange in the daytime (black sky in the daytime?). I suggest using this ( http://www.perpetualkid.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1959&dc=nextag0907 ) or something like it so you can switch it on and off in the day and in the night

- The T.V. is a good idea. It should be put in somewhere as a fake "window" to add realism.

-Put some fake (or real) palm trees in the corners of the store to hide the corners. If the corners showed, that would blow the whole beach illusion.

- For lighting, have some tiki torches inside the store using those fake fire lights
with the mini fans. That would be cool! At the tables put in those little light-up tea lights.

-As for the window, I have no idea. They could remove your diners from the relaxing beach feeling and ruin the mood. Tiki curtains? I don't know.

-Animatronic parrot at the reservation desk?

-For Holloween, you could have a full sized skeleton in swimming trunks holding a surfboard, some spooky video on the T.V., purple and green lighting, and here's a crazy idea: every hour on the hour starting at the time when you put the star lights on, you have a thunder sound effect play, a flash of lightning ( the dimming of the main lighting leaving only the tea lights on, then in the semi-darkness, have a strobe light flash), and (if the mall allows it) turn a smoke machine on for half a minute to get the real spooky effect!

- For Christmas (Holiday Time), string lights in the palm trees and put in some of those light-up palm trees and light-up flamingos to create a holiday feeling. If you really want to wow the customers, every hour on the hour say over a loudspeaker: "Attention: a snowstorm has changed courses and is now coming towards the beach! A snowstorm is coming toward the beach!". Then turn on a snow machine and: voila! instant snowstorm!

I hope that helped a little!

I'm really liking some of the ideas you all are posting for their shop! I will do my best to incorporate them into my designs. As of now, I'm thinking fiber optics for the stars...that's yet to be decided though.
