Super Bowl impact on WDW

In 2010 Super Bowl is in Miami (Feb 7) . . . so does that mean more folks than ususal at WDW? More but not outrageous, or could there be longer lines? If so, do you think crowds would appear before or after Super Bowl?

What about Super Bowl Sunday itself - does the park tend to be less crowded since folks are watching the game/going to parties?

I'm considering going to WDW 2/5-2/13 since I've heard it's typically less crowded, but now I've leard Super Bowl is in Miami so not so sure if I should move my dates....

In 2009 wasn't Super Bowl in Orlando? How did it impact crowds at WDW?

The Super Bowl has never been in Orlando. It has been in Florida many times but never Orlando. The 2009 game was in Tampa.Orlando has College Football Bowl Games like I believe the Outback Bowl but thats been about it.

I've been a few times for SB weekend. Super Bowl Sunday I think I was the only "Dad" in the parks! :lookaroun

But really, there didn't seem to be any increase of note in the crowds...

We stayed at WDW from Thursday until Monday of Super Bowl weekend...
YES it was busy because of the Super Bowl!!! Many tour operators had
folks staying in Lake Buena Vista and Disney, plus there were bus tours to WDW from Tampa, (less than a one hour drive). Don't think folks will come up from North Miami with a 3 1/2 hour drive. The Sunday before the Super Bowl
is the Pro Bowl game (moved from Hawaii), then Media week starts on
Tuesday. We are planning to stay at WDW a few days before the Pro Bowl and few days after the Super Bowl. In February, just don't go at President's
long week end... IT IS VERY BUSY!!!

I was at WDW when the Superbowl was in Jacksonville (2.5 hours away) and there was no difference in the crowd levels. My wife and I have done solo trips during superbowl weekend almost every year since we were married in 2001. Tampa was a bit of a different issue as is much closer than Jacksonville or Miami.

There's an impact to WDW crowds when the Super Bowl is in Tampa (2001 and 2009), as Orlando is frequently used as a spillover city. Obviously the economy played a role in dampening the impact this year.

Another factor is the teams that play in the game. Fans of east coast teams, especially those north of WDW, might very well stop off in Orlando on the drive to Miami. Fans of west coast teams will probably fly directly to Miami and bypass Orlando. I don't think an Oakland/Seattle or Arizona/Miami matchup, for example, would impact WDW crowds, while anything with the Giants, Jets or Steelers (teams that traditionally bring a large contingent of fans) would.

The crowds at the magic kingdom on Super Bowl Sunday are great. Not a lot of people at all. I am assuming all the parks are that day, since most locals will be watching the game. Have fun and enjoy the light crowds.

We went Fri-Tues of Superbowl weekend 2007. The crowds were very low all weekend, and with the smart use of FPs, I don't think we waited longer than 15 minutes for any ride, usually less. We went to all 4 parks in 4.5 days and got tons done. Superbowl Sunday itself had about the same low crowds as the other days. I highly recommend it. But bring a jacket for the evenings as it got quite cool.

You're from Canada, so you get a pass.

But American males in the parks during the Superbowl game itself should be required to wear skirts and change their name to "Nancy". :ROFLOL:

You may start flaming me.........................................now.

We've been there during SB a few times and crowds aren't bad at all. If you're a football fan, you may even get a glimpse of the SB MVP at the MK parade the following Monday or Tuesday. We have experienced an influx of Louisiana folks avoiding Mardi Gras week, during this period.
