Sunglasses?

I was a CM in 2002, so I'm sure things have changed a bit since then, but I don't recall being allowed to wear sunglasses. I worked mostly indoors (gift shops at RnR and ToT) but did work in the sun occasionally and would have loved to have some sunglasses.

Again, things may have changed or I could just be misremembering.

With modern research saying that long-term UV exposure to the eyes can cause issues, it thus became a health issue, so they started allowing CM's to wear sunglasses when working outdoors.

But you are correct, for a long time the only CM's allowed to wear sunglasses were those in safety roles who needed clear vision in the sun, like lifeguards.

No
Just got off my college program, we were allowed to wear sunglasses when we were outside but they had to be a neutral color, have no logos, and had to have a very plain shape. Also, you're supposed to be able to see the cast member's eyes through the lenses.

Sunglasses are a block to interpersonal communication with guests and should be avoided, if possible. Only sunglasses that allow your eyes to be seen are permitted. No mirrored or dark, opaque lenses are allowed. Sunglasses are not to be worn at night, in dark areas or indoors. Cast members should remove sunglasses when engaging in extended interactions with a guest. Sunglasses should not be visible when not in use.

The frames and lenses of both prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses should be a conservative, neutral color and style and free from contrasting logos. Eyeglasses and sunglasses should not detract from the costume or contradict the theme of the show.

If colored or tinted contact lenses are worn, the resulting eye color must be natural looking. Decorated lenses are not permitted, nor are any looks that would be considered distracting or not in the best interest of the Disney show."

Are cast members allowed to wear sunglasses to work? I don't recall seeing any of them wearing them on a recent visit.

Yep. I've noticed shades on the parking lot guides, the tram drivers, and on Jungle Cruise load/unload CMs.

EDIT -- But never at night.
