We too, had a first trip to WDW in the summer of 2000 at the end of June, over July 4th, and 3 more days after. We expected the worst.

It was not that bad. Mornings and evenings were decent. Afternoons we pretty much avoided the parks and lied poolside. We went with our grandparents, who are obviously older, and they did not have a problem either.

So while it is hot, remember it rains often which cools things down, and there are plenty of other diversions at the Resort to keep you out of the parks, wlaking on asphalt, during the peak sun heat times. Also, we did take breaks inside stores fo welcomed AC.

Youll make the best of it and it will be a great trip!

Yeah, it's definitely a bit warmer in the summer months, but it rains every day which gives a slight cool down, every single place is VERY air conditioned, and most lines are in shaded areas or inside in the nice, cool air conditioning. So you may get kinda hot in the afternoons, but taking lunch breaks, and shopping and stuff cools you down, so it really is not that bad. And remember, you can always g back to your resort ans go swimming in the afternoons!!! :)

We've gone in June, July and August. Its hot for sure. Bring a mister fan and lots of hydration. We bring gatorade into the parks into our backpack. If you have any health concerns it can also be a problem. Our one ds has asthma and he has had to leave a park once and we have rented him a wheelchair. If your schedule allows I would suggest the swim/rest break time in the afternoon. Its helps cool everyone off and get rid of the grumpys. Guess who had a heat meltdown at mgm this aug. - my DH! Not the kids. He was making such a scene and being a grump. I actually gave in to him and went back to the poly. He almost had me in tears and was ruining the day and embarresed me with his voice etc. Everyone was looking at us. I could have taken more of the heat, I like it hot, had the fan and gatorade but couldnt deal with the grump. He is generally not like that and such a good sport, so I could tell the heat was really getting to him. That was his only one incident in 10 days. June is pretty bearable. Bring lots of sunscreen and also something like solaircaine for sunburn.

It's all about how you plan your trip

If you blindingly see the world in the summer heat, then you could be severely impacted by the heat. Then again, if you plan ahead and use certain key strategies, your stay will be much more pleasant.

1. As stated earlier, mornings and evenings aren't that bad. Evenings are usually very pleasant. Mornings are fine, so long as you get up early and are at the parks when they open.

2. Drink plenty of water. You can find water fountains everywhere in WDW

3. There are several water rides which will cool you off nicely: Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids are the main ones

4. Walk through shops and fast food restaurants throughout the day. They provide air conditioning, and are usually entertaining as well.

5. Some rides have more indoor queue than others. For example, the Pirates of the Caribbean queue is almost entirely indoors, and entirely shaded. On the contrary, the queue for Aladdin's MAgic Carpets is entirely in the sun. Most queues stretch outside, but are covered and have fans and maybe even misters.

6. Don't be afraid to hit some of the smaller attractions. They'll provide entertainment, and a welcome break from the sun.

7. In Epcot, many of the attractions are in huge buildings themselves. You can walk into many of them without even going on the attraction itself. (Wonders of Life, Mission Space (interactive exhibits via the ride exit), Test Track (interactive exhibits via the ride exit), Journey into Imagination, The Land, The Living Seas, Innoventions

I could go on and on here. There are plenty of things to do to make your stay much cooler and enjoyable even in the hot Florida sun

When I was a kid we use to go in the Summer all the time. It was hot no doubt but it does rain every day and do a cool down. I don't like the heat personally. We now go in the Fall or Winter. Our main reason is not the heat, though I don't miss it. Our main reason is crowds. I don't like them at all. The only thing I miss about the summer is the parks are open later and the park is beautiful at night. Though this time we will go in January so it will be dark in the parks before they close.

They do keep the rides very airconditioned. So if you are on line outside you can even feel the air within 5 feet of the buildings usually.

First things first -- make sure you stay on property. Take advantage of early entry and leave that park at noon, or earlier. Head to the resort's pool, cool down in the water, have a bite to eat and take a nap. Head back to the parks around 4:30pm and enjoy the evening!
