Suggestions for hotels on site for 8 kids and 5 adults

I've tried looking up past threads for any info regarding large parties, but most are a couple years old....
So my cousin and I are planning a trip with our kids, our sisters, and their kids (I know, sounds nuts already:eek:) We really want to stay in the AOA suites, but we have 1 more child than the capacity of the room allows and we were trying to avoid having to split into 3 rooms. Any ideas/tips on how to accomplish this? We're attempting to make our stay as simple and economical as possible, since all of the families going on this trip are first timers (with the except of my husband, daughter and myself). All of the kids going on this trip will be 12 years old and younger, so we need to keep the kids together with their mommies.:) There will be 8 kids and 5 adults on this trip (Three families of 3 and one family of 4). Like I said, mostly first timers on this trip, so we would like to stay on site and soak in as much Disney as we can.

Getting 4 separate rooms at a Value resort would be the best bet if staying onsite is a requirement. You could also get by with 3 Moderate rooms that can accommodate 5 to a room. Either way, onsite you are looking at $500-$600 a night with this plan. Add in the ~$4,000 for tickets and this is ~$9,000 without meals and souvenirs.

I have no clue what your budget is, but consider offsite if budget is an issue. You could get 1 house/villa very close that can accommodate that many for half or less.

I totally agree with staying in a house off-site. We did that several times with extended family and we always had a great time. Just the convenience of having your own bedrooms, kitchen, and laundry room, and usually your own pool makes your trip so much less stressful, and affordale. Check VRBO for possibilities.

Thanks! Makes a lot of sense, but this may be the one time that most of my family members will get to visit the World. I may just go for the cheapest value resort we can get, just to have a little "Disney Atmosphere". According to my travel agent I can reserve up to 3 rooms (only rooms) under my FL Resident Discount, so hopefully that will help with the cost some.

If staying onsite is a requirement, then Values may be the best way. However, 3 rooms at a moderate may cost less. You should look into that as an option because a 5th person can stay in some moderate rooms. I know my daughter would choose a blowup mattress over the bed any day.

The Disney "Atmosphere" is not enough for me. I would book a house off-site, save the money, and then use that money on more days of tickets, or an extra character meal, or other experience that really adds to the value of your trip. Staying on site is highly over-rated in many ways imo.

If off-site, be sure to factor in parking, possible car rental, will you all be going to the parks and leaving at the same time in the same vehicle, fewer hours in the park since you wouldn't have EMH, etc.

Exactly this. Loading up 8 kids into a couple of cars, with a car seat for the youngest sounds like a nightmare. We'll definitely need the convenience of the Disney buses.

If you do decide to stay onsite, as it looks like you may, I would skip the suites and get 4 rooms. You will have a little more space for a lower price. If you are still thinking about staying offsite, just make sure you figure in all the pros and cons when making a decision. No one has yet mentioned that offsite guests can only book FP+ 30 days in advance instead of the 60 days resort guests get. If you have plans to ride Frozen and 7 Dwarfs this will be a big help.

If any of the kids are two or under, they don't count towards the limit per room.

I still think off property would be a much better option, but if on-property is what you are set on- Maybe you should try to rent points for a larger DVC villa. You can get a nice condo including a kitchen and save plenty of money instead of trying to book it for the rack rates that Disney charges.

Thanks! I'll check that out as well.

You could just go with every family gets their own room at either a value or moderate. Too much togetherness can be a negative, especially with all of those little kids. They work each other up and then you have a bunch of giggly kids that refuse to go to sleep. As fun as that is, everyone will need their sleep. Just because you are going on a vacation together doesn't mean you need to spend 24/7 with each other.

Depending on when you are going, you might look into using a DVC broker/rental agency like David's and see if you can rent a Grand Villa at one of the resorts.
