Stupid Myths and Rumors about DLR (and WDW)

Having spoken to one, I can confirm they exist. (My kid had picked up a toy, but then put it back down unnoticed, and I got to talk to a guy).

There are also "secret doors" here and there, most can be seen if you pay attention, but they are just access to backstage, not direct to disneyjail. (though disneyjail is also a thing.. they do have a holding area if you do something stupid enough to warrant talking to them and the local constabulatory).
I can't sit still any longer LOL .... there is NO jail. WDW has no authority to retain anyone.Orange County Sheriffs dept. take care of any issues that may escalate to that level.

It's actually a barren room where Mickey orders perps to go take a time-out in the corner. And then "It's a Small World" begins to play softly in the background. And it slowly gets louder...and louder...

I still have a hard time believing it. I’ve never seen any real corroboration that the skull is real. I know it looks real, but It seems like using a dead human’s skull for a theme park ride would be an ethical dilemma.
But it's the best theme park ride in the world. It's an honor. :D I'd rather have my skeleton on PoC than in a classroom being dressed up on Holidays.

Not that I'd want real skeletons on Disney rides to become a selling point...

They cannot physically stop you from leaving. That much is true. But they can politely ask you to come with them. And some people choose to do so. It's not a "jail" per se, but they do have an area to talk to people about their stupid mistakes while deciding if they just get lifebanned, tossed for the day, or arrested, or some combination of the above.

(I know this, because I have some incredibly stupid friends).

It was real at one point, then I believe they stopped it because of selling on eBay. They even had 60th Anniversary one as part of the Happiest Haunt Tour which came with a pin:

There currently is one for sale on eBay:

Those are 2015 ones. I have never seen an original one- ever. I've only seen them talked about.

If they were, at one point, distributed to guests I image it'd be well documented online- and not something that's "hey, they used to do it but I have no official record or images of the original ones to back it up"

This one actually was a thing. I'm not sure why disney thought it was a good idea tbh.

This myth originates from a social media photo that went viral. I suspect it was staged, or we're the actors messing around for that guest's amusement.

I've never seen record of someone successfully doing it inside Disneyland. Those costumes are heavy and expensive, I highly doubt Disney would approve the actors intentionally dropping in them.

The fact that they have even a 2015 one indicates that it was a thing. How it was never documented with official pictures I don't know. But its not some mythical fake internet thing, so even if it was a special thing only certain people got prior to 2015 it was real.

It's just an ordinary room! And they can't hold you against your will unless you've done something very wrong. So if this " other" place exists please tell me where it is and I will verify its existence.

It's possible that the 2015 one was made because of the urban legends surrounding it. A fun bit of fan service and a good collectible. But this idea that at one point they were giving them out to the general public has never been verified by a credible source.

This is something I'd like to learn more about, but I haven't been able to find any documentation or reliable source that specifies when they were originally given out by Disney, who they were given out too, what they looked like. Assuming that they actually existed because Disney gave out a few at a special event in 2015 is a logical fallacy.

It's worth mentioning that Doombuggies.com has a fake version you can print which I imagine helped fuel the legend.

Yeah, it's just a holding room for that purpose. "disneyjail" is a joke name for it. LOL.

They did put "the ring" back when they redid the queue.. so they are quite happy to fanservice when it's easy.

Well this is likely the closest you'll ever get to official confirmation from Disney:

That Cinderella Castle was to have an apartment for Walt Disney but it wasn’t finished due to his death. Design work on the Magic Kingdom began after Walt’s death. Seems to be a confusion with the New Orleans Square apartment.

The Disney parks moms blog hardly counts as a source. That person is a parent who's volunteered to help others plan their trips, I doubt their knowledge of park history is credible.

Once again, the myth and urban legend that's been perpetuated is that they used to distribute death certificates to guests who ask. This originates from the "be sure to bring your death certificate" line by Little Leota and has gained traction from buzzfeed articles and other Disney "trivia" sites that perpetuate myths and erroneous facts for extra clicks.

Many CM's and guests have said that used to pass them out, but in the 5 years I've spent active on many different Disneyland/Haunted Mansion specific forums, facebook groups, and sites- I have never seen anyone who actually received one, or had a photo of one. There's also zero record of when they were produced and distributed. It's just the same, vague line that they used to pass them out.

By comparison, the Hatbox Ghost- which was in the Haunted Mansion for an incredibly short period of time in 1969 has a decent photograph and 8mm home footage of it online.

If you're willing to accept a 2015 limited souvenir + a Disney Parks Mom post as a credible source, then I guess that works- I'd just like a bit more evidence and information before I accept it as fact.
