We’ve all heard at least one stupid rumor about Disneyland. Whether it’s from our friends, WDW bus driver, or even a YT commenter who is most likely below the age of six. A few myths to start off with:
-Disneyland has underground tunnels underneath the ENTIRE park.
-The clock at Sleeping Beauty Castle was stopped permanently when Walt died
-One of the CBJ theaters is still intact

I don't know if it qualifies so much as being a "stupid" rumor or myth, but one rumor I always heard was Disney has undercover security everywhere especially in the gift shops and they are always watching you. A myth I heard a looong time ago was that the little shop next to IT'S A SMALL WORLD, you know the one that usually sells princess stuff, that one time someone was caught shop lifting in there and one of the walls slide open and Disney security came out from behind the wall in a secret room or area and arrested the person.

Some kid who was a child of a Cast Member had a tour with his parents. There is a place above it's a small world where cast members can walk around, and he slipped and fell and hung himself on a prop.

There's many variations of the hanging person in it's a small world rumor, but this is the dumbest.

They do have undercover security. Not all CMs look like CMs. But they most certainly have loss prevention people.

never heard of this one. what is the rumor exactly? is it there is a ghost in pirates? if so where? and who died to make it haunted? curious on the rumor for never heard this one.
The rumor is that every day before the ride starts a cast member has to say hi to george the ghost or something will go wrong with the ride. Typically a shutdown.

Tame compared to the supposed presence of Deborah Stone in innoventions.

I Have no idea. these are just rumors I have heard

Having spoken to one, I can confirm they exist. (My kid had picked up a toy, but then put it back down unnoticed, and I got to talk to a guy).

There are also "secret doors" here and there, most can be seen if you pay attention, but they are just access to backstage, not direct to disneyjail. (though disneyjail is also a thing.. they do have a holding area if you do something stupid enough to warrant talking to them and the local constabulatory).

You always hear people say that the skull above the bed in PotC is real, but I’m pretty sure that’s not true.

That, "walt being frozen" and Leota's ball being carted off into some security vault every night are the most common and most ridiculous ones I've heard. (That said, it would not surprise me if that actually was a real skull. I've seen close up photos and have handled real skulls, and it looks a lot more "real" than the rest of the props in the ride).

Disney does have undercover security. Or at least, they used too. But I imagine they still do.

No idea if the Small World story is true though.

-The surveyor's mark under Sleeping Beauty Castle used to mark the dead center of the park

-When you leave the attic in the HM, you're actually falling to your death which is why you're moving backwards down (this ridiculous fan theory has gained traction recently)

- The redhead portrait in the pirate caverns depicts the redhead found later in the ride (again, a fan theory that's often repeated as fact, despite never being officially cited by Disney.)

-Haunted Mansion death certificate. This one is interesting- some people believe they currently hand them out. Others believe they used to, but don't any longer. Others believe they never did. I've NEVER seen an official Disneyland one pictured anywhere, or listed for sale on ebay, and I've researched the Haunted Mansion more then any other attraction so I'm leaning towards the "they never existed" camp.

- Andy's Home!

-That the Thurl Ravenscroft bust is Walt Disney

It was real at one point, then I believe they stopped it because of selling on eBay. They even had 60th Anniversary one as part of the Happiest Haunt Tour which came with a pin:

There currently is one for sale on eBay:

The “falling backwards to your death” thing drives me crazy— It is so stupid.

I actually liked the Redhead painting on Pirates theory, though. It fit the time travel theme and gave Red’s story a happy ending. Even if it was just a fan theory, it worked as a fun little piece of PoC’s original loose storyline.

It is true. The skull and bones were donated by UCLA. The color of the skull and crossbones are vastly different from the rest of the “bones” in the ride. They are much darker than the creamy white fake ones throughout the attraction. Just comparing it to the fake skeleton in the bed, even the shape of the real skull looks different.

I still have a hard time believing it. I’ve never seen any real corroboration that the skull is real. I know it looks real, but It seems like using a dead human’s skull for a theme park ride would be an ethical dilemma.
