That's fascinating! Wonder if they changed their mind. Also gives some validity to those entertainment schedules that suggest October 11th is the last day for HISTK and all the various things around that area.

No, I don't see where it gives that any validity. Lots of people are making some serious leaps to conclusions when skepticism is the better course.

Seconded. Just a typo as far as I'm concerned (content creator getting confused with Maelstrom, mayhaps?). The Hub still says the 27th and if you use the calendar on that exact same length, there are no operating hours after the 28th.

The backlot tour closed down a long time ago as far as I am concerned. Although, I am very intrigued where this will lead if anywhere? It is a nice chunk of park to play with. Castastrophe cayon will be missed! Even if I haven't been on in years.

I think they are only closing the Backlot. No evidence that anything else is going away. The big elephant in the room is still the LMA show and Osbourne Lights. If those are continuing then don't expect wholesale change coming.

A portion of the Studio Backlot Tour will be used to extend the magic of “Frozen” during this holiday season, which we previously announced. One of the most popular elements of Frozen Summer Fun, Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post, will be relocating to the Streets of America spot and will continue to operate closer to the popular “For the First Time in Forever: A ‘Frozen’ Sing-Along Celebration.”

We are working on other developments for that area, as well, and we look forward to sharing more details at a later date.

Sad. It is very sad that Disney has let this park deteriorate into very deplorable conditions. My family and I rarely venture into this dump but we went this past weekend because we wanted to ride Studio Backlot Tour before it closes. As our tram began its journey the pre-recorded audio began to cut in and out. The cast member tour guide struggled to explain what we were looking at. The shaky bridge in Catastrophe Canyon did not work. Upon exiting the ride I encountered multiple piles of trash (this was not the only area that was littered). I was very disappointed with the whole encounter.

Went to the studios over the weekend as well, the park was mayhem. Serious crowd control issues to the point where I felt it was dangerous. the frozen fireworks are a nightmare, never again. people sitting in the middle of the streets because there was nowhere else to go and cast yelling at people to get up. between that and the band dance party junk, and beer everywhere, we felt like we were at some rave party, whats happened to Disney.

Beer? There's beer in DHS now? Was there a private party going on?

This sounds like every night at Disneyland & The Magic Kingdom. Though I have noticed the past year or so work to expand the walkways at MK, there is that narrow pathway in front of Haunted Mansion that leads to the Rivers of America that would always get jammed during parades, and that pathway has been widened which made the area much more manageable (now you can walk past all the people who stopped on the path to watch the parade).

I see this as a new payroll-reduction test. They will stop paying CMs to staff and maintain the ride on the 27th, but let the guests continue accessing it until Oct 5. Perhaps the guests will figure out how to operate and maintain the ride themselves. If so, expect a full rollout resort-wide in time for the Christmas season. The savings will be staggering.

I could see this working for food service as well. "You want a hamburger? There's the fridge, there's the grill, good luck!"

We were at DHS on Friday for Fantasmic (which got canceled due to weather), and didn't even bother to stay for the fireworks. We went back to our hotel and watched them from our balcony, much less crowded there. :)

Why not? Backlot Tour by itself takes up a big footprint and is contiguous with the existing Pixar Place. You could certainly build some stuff there while leaving LMA and SoA intact indefinitely.

I think it would be more of an issue if it were LMA closing but Backlot Tour remaining open due to the geography. That change would look more suspicious for "cost cutting" to me because LMA is apparently quite expensive to operate.

I don't drink so I wasn't aware of that. Surprises me that they can wander around with drinks in their hands though I suppose that it shouldn't surprise me. Welcome to Disney's Bar & Grill.

It's only the castle parks that do not serve alcohol, though Paris is an exception and has for a long time. MK now allows alcohol at dinner in BOG and DL serves inside Club 33, but otherwise those parks are dry.

But Epcot, DHS and DAK have always served alcohol.
