Studio Backlot Tour Automated Spiel?

The tour will be gone soon. The area will be redeveloped.

How soon?? Seems like a waste to turn it into an automated script if the plans are to scrap the whole area. Unless, soon, means 2011, in which case I understand the potential cost savings. But if it's just a few months, I don't get it.

Some say 2010. The tour keeps people occupied for 45 minutes. Which keeps them in the park and Cuts down the crowds a little . I agree it is a waste now . I see people walk away from the line and during Harbor attack.:snore:

That is a good idea. The guy we had on our last trip was horrible! I also agree that it would be okay to do away with it. Catastrophe Canyon is the only good part of the tour left.

Not what it used to be

My wife and I did the Backlot Tours on Saturday, September 20th. This would be the first time on this thing since they started building the "stunt car attraction (the name of the attraction slips my mind at the moment)" a couple of years ago. But, even during the construction of the "stunt car attraction", the Backlot Tours was shortened to nothing more than a quick trip around the parking lot, basically.

Prior to getting on the trams, you're tortured by watching three volunteers do their best with acting in a knock off of the movie "Pearl Harbor" which was made in 2001. Here it is 2008, do you think they would've updated that with something by now?

So, on the backlot tour this past Saturday that we're going to get as close as we're going to get to the signature water tower ("Earful Tower"), we learned that because there was the Herbie The Love Bug car on the side of the road meant that we were on a "hot set", and we also learned that Catastrophe Canyon is as cheesy as its going to get.

After getting off the tram, my wife and I looked at each other and go, "That was it?" While the family sitting behind us were amazed that they got to see what it's like behind Hollywood Studios (here's a thought - go to your local Walmart and hang out behind the building - that's about as fascinating as watching paint dry -- oooooooo a loading dock --- ooooooooo!)

Now I know why we don't frequent Hollywood Studios as we do with Epcot and MK. But, we did like the Toy Story ride - very cute! Nice addition to the park! :)

They really should just put the darn thing out of its misery. And its pretty sad that a majority of the movie items covered are either from the 80s or Micheal Bay movies.:hurl:

I don't understand why you guys are so confused about. The reason they don't just tear the whole thing down this minute is because they wouldn't make any money off of a new attraction. The majority of people (including myself) still haven't been on toy story mania, thus, still having a reason to visit DHS.

lest we forget, the money is made in other areas of the park, not the attractions themselves. The financial purpose for having a new attraction is to boost attendance back up.

this refurbishment is probably just some downtime to keep operating costs down during the off season, and assess what can be kept in the future expansion once the tour is gone.

Obviously it's a large pixar expansion area for the years to come.

I think you guys judge it too harshly. there is a lot of cool stuff that you get to see. for example; the cars from Indiana Jones, the sub from the life aquatic (my personal favorite), lots of props from the pirates of the Caribbean films, the canyon (which i think is still cool, it's just not cool to you guys because it's not a surprise anymore. if you go with someone who has never seen it, it really takes them by surprise!), and well basically all of the bone yard.

when you think about it, we didn't really lose too much when they took away those neiborhood streets. fascades for exterior shots of 80's and 90's sit coms really aren't something that would apeal to current guests.

I think you guys just expect too much from a backlot that's not actually a backlot.

Tram drivers learn from the Jungle Cruise Captains

Here's an idea...let the Jungle Cruise Capatins work with the BLT Tram drivers for a while and let them come up with their own creative spiel about the sights "behind the scenes" they can even use the back side of water line for the Canyon...or they can let one of the Streetmosphere characters run the show.
