Strollers

I've read differing views about whether to take strollers with you or not to Orlando. We've been twice with our 2 children, last time was August 2001 when they were 2 and 1 years old. We brought our own strollers from the UK with us. This was fine, except for the trams at MK etc which were extremly difficult to get on with 2 non-umbrella strollers. Has any one got any ideas as to alternatives, or perhaps ways of avoiding the dreaded trams!

If you stay on site, and use WDW transportation, you don't have to use the trams. The busses bring you right to the front entrance of MK, AK, etc.

Just be prepared to remove your child from the stroller, and fold the stroller, before you board the bus. I haven't had to use one (a stroller) in years, but I THINK you can roll one onto the monorail. Please correct me if I'm wrong. (as if you guys would ever hesitate to let me know when I'm wrong, wrong, wrong! ;))

Thanks.
We've considered staying on-site, but it's cheaper to rent a house with a pool, and much easier with our two toddlers, than staying in a hotel. (perhaps when they're older)
You definitely can roll a stroller onto the monorails/ferries with relative ease, even with the crowds of summer. The only problem we have is the trams!
We've even tried walking from the car to TTC. Believe me when I tell you, it can be a very long way in the heat of the Florida sun, for anyone, especially pale skinned Brits!

Tram advice:

There are several "double rows" with forward and rear facing seats in the same row. They are the back rows of each car, I believe. These rows have more space to drag strollers into. Try to get these rows when you can.

Whenever we went to Disney with our three I had a umberella type twin buggie, our youngest two are fourteen months apart,
it was the cheapest one I could find under fifty quid and was the best 'Disney Investment' I ever made, we used it for three holidays, so we certainly got our moneys worth. It was light and folded in a second, I carried the stroller and DH grabbed the kids. I know who had the easier job:animwink:

I still use strollers for my 2 kids - last year they were 3 and 6 and I'll be using them again this year! The 7 year old is not at all ashamed to sit and be pushed - Disney days are long and tiring for the best of us and it made life more pleasant for all of us if the kids could hop into the buggies and sleep! We tended to "park" one and come back for it later in the day when the older one was getting tired. We did have to fold them for the trams but that was a minor detail!

We just got back from a grand experiment at WDW with a three and a one year old. I have three words for you:

double umbrella stroller!!!!!!

Ours absolutely saved our lives. You can get one at any baby store, for $60-80. You may be able to find one at a consignment shop. They're light and fold up nicely. Ours even had a sun shade (Kolcraft). You can go just about anywhere with them, and yes, they let us roll it right on the monorail. When the three year old walked, we put stuff in the extra seat. Next to annual passes it was the best thing we ever bought for WDW. Worth every penny.

We took our daughter to WDW a few months ago. She as almost 9 months old at the time. We got the best stoller just for the trip and I love it. It turns from a stoller to a back pack It is as small and light weight as an umbrella stoller, folds up just as easy too. It is by Instep and sells for anywhere between 50 and 80 dollers. (we found ours at Target Greatland for 49, no on sale!) Our daugher is a wee one and only weighd about 14 pounds the time of trip. The weight goes up to 30 pounds I belive.

It has a great space to put a bag under it and good shade too. When the parks got too busy we just straped her on my hubbies back and walked out, with out worrying about pushing the stoller. It was great for the airport too.

If you have a few kids or partically large ones, it most likely isn't for you. But if you have a small baby, this stoller was the best thing for our trip. This summer we are going to the ocean and have along walk from the car to the beach. We hope to get more use out of it again.

Excuse me but, you're from England and you don't have a Maclaren????????? Man, do I love my ultra light, ultra compact Maclaren double stroller!!!!!!!!!!!!! My children are four and 9 months and staying at a Disney resort is the ultimate in convenience! No hotel is like a Disney one. Have you ever stayed onsite before? These aren't your regular hotels. Anyway, I'm assuming you plans are already made, and I don't suppose I can change your minds, but in my opinion, staying anywhere else would be too much stress for us!
Anyway, to answer your question.....the park strollers are uncomfortable and hot. They are molded plastic and I would never put my little baby in one. They do not recline and there is no way they could nap peacefully and comfortably in one. Bring your own stroller, and fold it up for the tram ride. You can check out pictures of the Disney park strollers at : http://www.wdwig.com/strol_faq.htm
Good Luck!!!!!!!

Bring your own umberalla strollers! They taks up very little space when folded and you will save a lot of time. You will wast 15 to 20 minutes in the morning waiting in the stroller rental line then you will wait form another 5 to 10 in the evening returning it and getting your deposit back. In addition, you will spend $5 per day in rental fees. We rented the first time we went then decided to buy some small ones and use our own. Much simpler.:slurp:
