Strange request here. Do you know someone who works in Disney's park costume department?

I haven't noticed it in WDW but in Disneyland I've seen cast members leaving the park in costume all the time. Many of them walked out of the park and sat and waited for the bus. So it isn't totally true that Disney doesn't let costumes leave property. But they are two different resorts so the rules might be different.

WDW does indeed allow CMs to check out a certain number of wardrobe parts at a given time. This allows Disney to not have to pay them to be on the clock getting costumes each day, and allows for CMs to ensure they have costumes that fit. However the CMs are responsible for those wardrobe items, and are supposed to return them when no longer needed/no longer employed. Pieces do definitely still wander off, but historically WDW wouldn't let CMs keep/buy old pieces that no longer met quality standards/design changes. Which is why when costume pieces like bellhops and butlers/maids ended up on eBay they command high prices as they were very hard to get. Themeparkconnection has been selling a much larger amount of costuming recently, so Disney may have changed policy regarding old costume pieces disposal.

I'd think the company would be in serious trouble, and probably be shut down if they were dealing in stolen goods. They've been operating for about 20 years so I think they're on the level.

As far as getting into the event yes, I'm sure we'll be allowed in.

But thanks for casting that debbie downer shadow!
Just because they've been operating for 20 years does not mean the stuff on there isn't stolen. Ebay isn't selling you the goods, an independent seller is. Ebay is jut the connection between you and them. You'd be amazed how many police investigations of theft, breaking/entering, home invasion end up recovering stolen property advertised on .... you guessed it....Ebay. Or better yet, Craigslist.

Why don't you just something else like IASW dolls and avoid all the trouble.

The OP indicated several posts back that she's just going to make new, matching shirts for her and her daughter. So......no need to continue lecturing her, or offering suggestions that have nothing to do with what she wants to do.

I'm a dude, not a chick.

But I agree. Enough lecturing. The items aren't stolen, see the response from the eBay seller. Also see the response I got from disney directly.

Here's the trim. I've been posting it all over, including reddit's disney and sewing channels, as well as emailing a ton of fabric companies. I've also tried to find it at JoAnn's, Michael's AC Moore and have had no luck. I'll be heading to a big fabric store in Boston today at lunch with the sample, but I figured if I could find someone who works in Costuming they might be able to help.

The trim I need is in both 1/4" and 1/2" sizes. It's closest match I could find is something called braided/knitted flat trim, but before I order rolls of the stuff I figured I'd ask if anyone knew exactly.

fabric.com has some trims that are similar, it's not organized real well but if you search around you'll find they have several differnt types of "gold" like "bright gold", "old gold"... this their is 3/4" "vegas gold"

Thanks for the research. These do look close, but I was actually going to post today that someone from MJ Trimming in New York found me a really close match. Something called Middu Braid in the widths and cor I needed, antique gold.

I have the shirts now too - short sleeve oxfords I got from old navy. Tonight I'll dye those and see if I can get the colors close. I'm using the RIT dye color Wine which if I let the shirts sit for long enough should get me that burgundy color I'm looking for.

I'll post pics when things are closer to finished.

My friend used to take this costume home too. I told him when I was a CM we can never do that and had to get costumes daily and take it to our awesome MK lockers.

CMs have to pay for any lost or damaged items. I suspect the costume, like most others on sale, was one the original owner lost, paid the fine, then later found when they no longer worked for the mouse so they sold it on.

As long as you don't wear a Cast Member name badge, I can't see a problem with it. I doubt anyone on the gate knows the costumes in enough detail to spot the difference between a great replica and a genuine one anyway. Take a print-off of the email reply just to be sure though.
