Strange Forum Ad's

Just noticed this the other day. I keep seeing Match.com ad's above some of the forums/threads, asking me if I want to "flirt with single men in Maryville, Tennessee." Okay first off, the fact that it's asking me if I want to flirt with single men indicates that I must spend waaaay too much time on Disney-related boards/sites. And secondly, where in the hell is Maryville Tennessee? Considering we live just outside of the Cincy area...not exaclty sure who they're marketing towards. :ROFLOL:
Then there's the homeowners refinancing ad which shows a pic of some guy who resembles a serial killer (??) Not sure what to think of that one.

Anyone else getting some rather amusing ad/banners?

IDK man... My smartphone thought I was in Rathbun, Iowa for like 2 weeks. I've never even been to Iowa in my life! Technology does weird things from time to time.

Perhaps someone in Maryville has a man crush on you.

Perhaps your IP address is related via companies in the same cities...ie your local cable company also owns the cable company in Maryville.

Google AdSense

While Google often shows you ads based on the content of the page you are viewing, we also show some ads based on the types of websites you visit, view, or where you interact with an ad or other Google product supported by Google's advertising services.

Sooooo.....uhm......yeah.

Maryville Tennessee is a little South East of Knoxville, Tennessee. Strange why you would be getting an ad from that far away.

Maryville is a tiny little town about 45 minutes from Knoxville. ;) My husband's great grandpa lives there...

But yeah I know what you mean about the crazy ads. LOL I just laugh and go about my business.

I searched for fire pits on Google in like late September/Early October. I saw nothing but fire pit ads on here for about a month since. I still see them on occasion. Right now its the for Halloween costumes because I googled that a few weeks before Halloween.

On my computer, the forums show mostly adds for Cars. That is because my other love/hobby is reading and learning about cars. Typically, your browser will try to post ads that match your affinities. That means it will remember places/websites you have surfed to and try to post ads that might match your browsing habits or affinities. What sites are surfing???:ROFLOL:

It depends on how the browser interprets your surfing habits. It could be as generic as "Shopping" instead of "Peanut butter". If you visited a grocery store or even Walmart, it might bring an ad like that up. But really, I was just making a joke.

Too true ...LOL after I clicked and took advantage last week for the 35% WDW resorts...I have seen chip and dale and fall leaves on every site with popups I visit....and I surely don't mind, but then again it rotates occasionally with singlemen thingy on my email page and that is totally random as I have no interest in or ever searched for dating services....so it is partially true that some is based on your searches...some is definately NOT!

Many of the ads on this site are Google remarketing ads.

I work from home part-time, and am on my employer's website frequently. As a result, the main banner image is often a banner ad for my marketing firm. Remarketing is a way for companies to continue placing ads in front of you after you have visited their websites (and it is growing exponentially, as I've noticed in my own web surfing habits. I'm a copy editor for a marketing firm, so I'm attuned to pay attention to these things ).

It appears that there are also ads that are purchased directly (Disney-specific); however, I don't want to formulate a specific guess because that's really not any of my business.

The reason I shared the remarketing tidbit? Because that ad is likely appearing because someone on your computer (or using your internet connection) has been searching Match.com. There's a decent probability that's why you're seeing it. Very few ads on the web nowadays are random.
