Story behind Disney's Yacht Club

Howdy folks,
I was wondering if there was a story behind The Yacht Club resort. I have my next trip booked there for the 1st leg of my holiday trip. I have never stayed there before and was curious if anybody knew the backstory behind the resort. The ship-wreck out in front of the resort should at least have a story. I googled it and searched the forums and nothing came up. Thanks

I can tell you that the water slide shipwreck is called the Albatross. Back in the mid 90's, before the Christmas displays were set up in the lobbies of the BC & YC, the BCYC Christmas extras were done in front of the Albatross. Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and a brass quartet led the crowd in song to turn on the Christmas lights on the ship. They had handouts with the song, "Oh Albatross", sung to the tune of "O Tannenbaum". I've still got one somewhere.

There is a poem short story at the base of the Albatross. I don't know it word for ord, but it explains how explorer Stormalong used his boat the Albatross to sail the NE Atlantic. A huge nor-easter came and blew his ship off course, and permanently ran it aground in its current location. The pools are actually made from the boat being drug through the sand scooping out holes.

If you look, you'll see that the pools are all connected, or at least appear to be (Disney Landscaping Magic, and that at the end of the winding pool sits the Albatross.

Not sure on a story for the Resort itself. Just themed to the 1880s Martha's Vinyard. It's a great property, and def one of my favorite Resorts to stay.

OH WOW!! The Capt Hook and Mr Smee Christmas sing a long sounds so cool. It's a shame little things like this aren't kept.

I remember during Easter and at other random times throughout the year, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto could be seen just walking around Caribbean Beach in search of treasure. (Mostly in the Port Royale and Parrot Cay areas). It was so neat to come back to the Resort and see characters hanging around.

Ahhh, my Caribbean Beach memories of the late 80s early 90s are GREAT!

The character carol songfests disappeared when the fancy lobby displays began. (IE the Gingerbread House at GF)

I remember a western theme with Goofy and Chip & dale in the Grand Canyon Concourse at the CR.

The gang from Robin Hood was at Port Orleans, Never figured that one

Here's the story that was published in the Yacht & Beach Club newspaper, Tide Tribune (I don't think this is available anymore):

"Legend has it that a gigantic sailor named Stromalong came along some time ago and took these parts by storm, running his great ship aground where Stromalong Bay now stands. His mighty vessel plowed into the shoreline in a fierece nor'easter, tearing into the sand and creating the pools and waterways of Stromalong Bay. You can still see his great ship, with its proud mast piercing the sky 150 feet into the air. It now hosts an exciting water slide, which plumments into three acres of pools, including a snorkling lagoon, a lively lagoon fearuring whirlpools, and waterspouts, and a tranquil lagoon for relaxing."

This is really interesting, I have stayed here several times and did not know the story. Thanks!
