Stormalong Bay Quicksand

That's strange because there are numerous references and accounts of quicksand or sinking-sand like experiences in Stormalong Bay pool.

I have read articles that describing sinking into the few inches of sand at the bottom of the pool as a "quicksand feeling" but there is no quicksand at Stormalong bay. It is a few inches of sand on top of a concrete bottom.
Exactly. And in many places in the pool it is only a dusting of sand, the concrete mostly exposed.

Are you referring to one the filtration intakes?

It's the area here right above "Store & Rentals". The sand collapses to give you a "quicksand" feeling.

Was just there 2 weeks ago and I think in this particular area the sand is just a bit deeper than in other areas. It's still only maybe 6"-8" deep at most. Hung out in that spot for a while with my 5yo watching the organized games, etc. but I don't remember feeling a quicksand sensation.

I will say for the most part the sand bottom is a pleasant sensation. On the other hand, when you have to get out of the pool and walk on top of sand scattered on top of (hot) concrete...not so much.

The area noted in this as Sinking Sands is actually not that deep. It is where the volleyball net and games are at so all the youngsters need to be able to stand up in. While there may be some areas of filtration that have a different "feeling" it is not actually any type of quicksand or something you will sink into very much other than the tops of your ankles. I'm 6'6" and the only area in the whole pool that is not shallow enough for me to touch bottom is in the lazy river that is over my head in a couple of sections.

The sand I am assuming is made to feel like ocean sand. If you stand in one place long enough and let the waves keep crashing into you, you sink into the sand. I doubt Disney would go anywhere near quicksand. Although, some of their "ideas" have bottomed out like quicksand. LOL.;)

When we stayed at Yacht the sinking sand section was always the most crowded part because everyone was trying it out. I think if you really stood still and tried to sink you might go down about 6 - 8 inches......maybe.

As I recall, only the shallow kiddie area is fine sand, similar to the sand along the edge of the lake. Easier to play with and sculpt.

The sand in the rest of the pool is coarser, something closer to the sand on most beaches here in New England.

Yes, it's not true quicksand, but over by the volleyball net, there are a few spots where your foot will sink down to the actual bottom of the pool.

After years of staying there and stepping in it (and being fascinated by it and attempting to find it), I think that there is a jet blowing bubbles and ergo moving the sand in that spot, so instead of standing on top of non-moving sand, your foot sinks to the bottom since that sand is constantly moving.

You are correct.

I believe that the sand in the other sections of the pool is actually desert sand from out west. I think from Arizona.

The feeling is comparable, IMO, to standing in shallow surf and having your feet sink in a little bit with the waves. i.e. it's a pleasant, natural beachy sort of feeling.

as some others have said, you only "sink" down about ankle level, and there are maybe 3-4 places where you "sink." stormalong bay is the BEST!

In the sinking sand section, as referenced above, there are these areas that drop down about a foot, if you keep wedging and wiggling your foot down into it. I have size 13 feet and my feet have plenty of room in these holes. Just picture a pool bottom with a few holes in it that drop down, but are filled with sand.

Everyone saying these sinking sand spots don't exist, either don't know, or have never been in the pool.

The holes, which re filled with sand, are actually pretty deep if you TRY and wiggle your foot all the way down. If you just step on it, youll drop a few inches, but if you really wiggle, you can go down further.
