How does the quicksand at Stormalong bay work? I thought quicksand was deadly dangerous?
Exactly. And in many places in the pool it is only a dusting of sand, the concrete mostly exposed.I have read articles that describing sinking into the few inches of sand at the bottom of the pool as a "quicksand feeling" but there is no quicksand at Stormalong bay. It is a few inches of sand on top of a concrete bottom.
Are you referring to one the filtration intakes? The sand bottom is different from the "Sinking sand" section.

Was just there 2 weeks ago and I think in this particular area the sand is just a bit deeper than in other areas. It's still only maybe 6"-8" deep at most. Hung out in that spot for a while with my 5yo watching the organized games, etc. but I don't remember feeling a quicksand sensation. It's the area here right above "Store & Rentals". The sand collapses to give you a "quicksand" feeling.
The area noted in this as Sinking Sands is actually not that deep. It is where the volleyball net and games are at so all the youngsters need to be able to stand up in. While there may be some areas of filtration that have a different "feeling" it is not actually any type of quicksand or something you will sink into very much other than the tops of your ankles. I'm 6'6" and the only area in the whole pool that is not shallow enough for me to touch bottom is in the lazy river that is over my head in a couple of sections. It's the area here right above "Store & Rentals". The sand collapses to give you a "quicksand" feeling.
The sand I am assuming is made to feel like ocean sand. If you stand in one place long enough and let the waves keep crashing into you, you sink into the sand. I doubt Disney would go anywhere near quicksand. Although, some of their "ideas" have bottomed out like quicksand. LOL.
You are correct. As I recall, only the shallow kiddie area is fine sand, similar to the sand along the edge of the lake. Easier to play with and sculpt.
The sand in the rest of the pool is coarser, something closer to the sand on most beaches here in New England.
