Haven't seen the movie, but I saw a few episodes of the series. The movie is from what I understand, the first couple episodes of the series. What I've seen of the series is Ok (although I still don't get what's up with Pleakly and his crossdressing 
) so you may want to try at least renting the video.

It's decent for a Disney Sequel from TV animation. And yea, the Cross Dressing thing and the Sandwich thing are both explained in the movie.

Basically Stitch the Movie is a giant pilot for the series.
Pleakley was always in a dress for cover in the first movie, thought it was cool (Hes an alien, give him a break), and stuck with it for certain reasons, one being he wanted to learn more about each thing on the planet, one being the child and adult stages of males and females.
