Staying off site/Magic Bands

We will be visiting The Kingdom in November 2014. This will be our first visit staying off site...staying with my daughter, son-in-law and new granddaughter who will be 20 months, at their Marriott Time Share. How do Magic Bands work if you are not staying onsite or do we buy our passes at say....AAA and use those tickets for admission? We have never stayed off site before and have always planned our trip directly through Disney so tickets etc were all included. Thanks......:cat:

You have to buy your own tickets and you will not get magic bands or access to FP+.

I suggest signing up for mousesavers.com's newsletter and buying discount tickets through their link to undercover tourist. You can save a bit of money that way.

The above answer is incorrect.

By November 2014 the complete MyMagic will have rolled out. You DO need to buy your own tickets at the gate, or you can also buy them in advance through AAA and then exchange the vouchers you'll get at the ticket booth as always.

While the final Day Visitor plan isn't set in stone, (you currently get an RFID card, and eventually they say wristbands at the ticket booth even for day visitors though that might change) you STILL GET FP+...the only difference is that you use the kiosks inside the park to select your fastpasses the day of (three in one park only although that might also change by the time you arrive). You touch your RFID card or your wristband and it associates with your account and you select your fastpass times. The only difference is that those staying on property can select their fastpasses online in advance instead of day of (they can also do it day of if they want to).

Except for Thanksgiving Week, you will have no problem in November selecting any of the fastpasses that you want.

Nobody knows yet what the deal will be then. If you buy the tickets from AAA, you should be able to link them to the bands with no problems. There aren't too many problems, even now.

There is entire board here devoted to FPP and Magic Band discussion. Follow that! :) If there is news, you'll see it there!

Thanks everyone. I think I can also buy my tickets on the Disney website.

You can, but get no real benefit from doing so. Buying them from a reseller such as Undercover Tourist (possibly AAA depends on the branch) will let you save money.

Trying to plan for MDE more than a few weeks off is difficult, and almost pointless to do. As they are changing policies and procedures with little notice, who knows what will happen in another year. As pointed out, currently off site guests aren't getting MBs, and can't do any advance FP+ bookings. It is definitely expected to change and allow for advance FP+ for offsite guests, and possibly even MBs, but as to a timeline and details, no one knows.
