Staying in Park during EMH without Resort Reservation

I was curious as to how everyone NOT staying in a Disney Resort is removed from the park before/during Extra Magic Hours. I haven't seen MBs flashing red if you're not staying on property...

It's been my experience that they do not sweep non-resort guests out of the parks. I've often stayed late in the parks during EMH solely to photograph the parks at night. If you aren't a resort guest you cannot go on any rides or attractions because they check magic bands or other media to confirm you are on an active reservation. If you are not you are not able to ride.

You can't get into the parks for morning EMH unless your MBs shows that you're currently staying on site.

No attempt is made to remove off site guests during evening EMH. HOWEVER, you would be unable to enter any attraction. Once EMH begins, MBS are scanned at the entrance to all the attractions. You would be able to continue spending as much as you want in the shops, though.

Thank you! Planning an evening at AK this weekend and wanted to see Pandora at night.
I have heard they check magicbands when entering Pandora during EMH. I haven't seen it myself but have seen it reported. I guess if you are already in the land they wouldn't know. Maybe someone can confirm because I've wondered about it after I heard it.

Back at Christmas 2016, for evening EMH and MK, they had someone near the carousel with a scanner. They scanned people's bands and directed those not staying onsite back through the castle, stopping them walking on round.

I also saw that at DHS after Fantasmic, where anyone trying to go back along Hollywood Blvd had their band scanned, and saw several groups being directed out of the park.

So at busy times they may well scan. And I too have heard that they were scanning at the entrance to Pandora after the rest of AK closed. Since only Pandora was "open" for EMH it meant that off site guests could continue to shop etc. in the rest of the park but weren't allowed into Pandora.

They changed the procedure years ago. Originally non-resort guests had to leave the park with the beginning of the EMH and resort guests had special wristbands so it was not a difficult job to sort out the day-guests and CMs asked them to leave the park. But then TDO realized that day-guests could still spend money in Main Street etc. during EMH so they instead only checked the resort ID cards at the entrances of the rides and shows participating in the EMH. I however don't know how the procedure is today in the era of magic bands.

You can hang out as long as you like, but good luck getting on rides. They ask you what resort you're staying at, especially if you don't have a Magic Band. Of course, one could just make something up...

What if you're in line (like FoP) before the start of EMH, you can still ride correct? I assume CMs will cut off the SB line at a certain point?

I remember those days. You used to have to go and see a CM, who would then check your room key, and then give you a colored wrist band. The color of the band changed depending on the night. Then for a while you could by wristbands on eBay (or just go to your local party supply store). I saw a person one night take out a zip-loc bag of vaious band colors, find the ones that matched what others were wearing, and then hand them out to her family.

I suspect it was a combination of both the realization that people could still spend, and that the wrist band idea could easily be circumvented, that caused a change in the process.

Of course Magic Bands changed the whole thing around.

Correct. When the park closes to normal guests, they will at that point start checking the guests entering line. Just like how if you get in line for a ride before it closes on a normal night, or a hard ticketed party starts, they will still let you ride.

Yep, except that there were reports that the stand-by line was being cut by around 9:30/10:00 when emh was 11 till 1, with a new line starting just for emh guests. So normal "in line by closing" rules weren't applying. Not sure about now.

That isn't terribly different than the queue for the safaris. If the line looks like it will extend past the closing time, then the line will be closed early as they need to start to get the animals backstage. So if you are in line, you are good to ride. The CMs may just close the line off early. They also did the same thing with Frozen, when standby was like 6 hours long they closed standby, but still let FP+ holders enter that line.

Exactly. So they are likely to start checking bands well before the park actually closes. That was what I was trying to say. There is a general perception that you can get in line any time up to park closing; that is not always the case for very popular rides.
